#Stop enemy plasma deflection inside shields
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
It’s more of a field than a bubble and it looks cool
field? it looks like a bubble and it looks weird that out of the blue plasma inside shield gets deflected. it also means that plasma units need to do what to kill the shield? stand right adjecent to it?
its dumb.
It is explicitly called a plasma deflector, not a shield
who cares what its called. what matters is that enemy units shooiting inside and having their plasma deflecred out is crap. its unintuitive, looks weird and plays dumb.
Make shields great again. Remove the stupid plasma deflector and at an ACTUAL shield, like in SupCom
This unit was added because the mechanic was added to the engine. However it has served its purpose nicely and it’s some unique
I've always found the shield behaviour bizarre, it's counter to how shields work not just in all other video games, but also books, movies, and sci-fi in general.
I actually agree with Basic here, and I called for this a long time ago as well. If you get inside the shield, you should be able to kill stuff there, not have your projectiles do really weird random things. It's an unintuitive, unepected design feature.
The behaviour is not random. It will accelerate the plasma shot away from the centre depending on the mass of the shot
The direction a plasma shot flies from a unit while inside enemy shields appears random to the player. I don't know that anything about how the game's physics works is actually random, but that doesn't mean it can't seem random.
$I agree it looks weird but I doubt there's a way to make it less weird and also be consistent. Like what if there's a jugg halfway in the shield, do projectiles get deflected or not?
god knows there's enough problems with hitboxes and aim points and whatnot in this game already
If you're inside the shield, why should the shield owner's plasma projectiles be unaffected while the enemy ones are? It doesn't make sense.
All plasma is deflected outward. If you stand inside and shoot it will be deflected outward
Try testing the behavior before posting. Friendly plasma is always unaffected by shields. The behavior and affects are different for enemies and friendlies. This is not WYSWYG design at all, not even close.
Indeed it does not but it should
I think if people just refer to it as a deflector everything works out fine
When people call it shields it causes issues
The worst part is it catches all plasma weapons, when it's really intended to counter long range artillery.
the plasma deflector is stupidly strong vs some units like juggernauts/behemoth/whatever the slowest t3 unit
Shields only affect Juggernaut shotgun arms, not the beam or missiles, and do not affect Behemoth weapons at all.
Also +1 for Basic. Shots getting deflected when inside the deflector is a bit weird. For me, this is unrelated to how the unit is called.
very frustrating as a new player to rush some sprinters/pawns in past the deflector radius, only to find your weapons magically nerfed and not working like you think they should
currently its behaviour feels like it's a weird mix between deflector and repulsor.... but not on all plasma, just enemy plasma, and it feels different depending on whether you fire inside or outside the bubble
it's the moment when core T3 doesnt seem so bad anymore (catapults)
I think it works perfectly fine. It's very intuitive. I think for 5 minutes when I was a noob I was confused about how it worked until I properly read the name. I prefer the physics based design compared to the projectile just vanishing.
Woah woah woah wait, the heavy cannon from the Juggernaut gets deflected by the plasma shielding?
A lot of people seem confused about the suggestion. It's not about making the plasma balls deflect differently when shot from afar, but removing the effect when you shoot from inside the sphere.
And I agree that would make sense both from a gameplay and intuitiveness perspective.
I'll agree to that too honestly. But at the same time, it's kinda cool so I'm stuck between the idea of it and the need for it to change
It's not a big issue for the game in my opinion, but how do you explain that only enemy plama is deflected when speaking about physics based design?
Some fire and forget weapons have radar emitters built in to the missile. Plasma weapons could emit an encrypted signal to detect friendly munitions from hostile. Only the ones emitting the signal are let through. Also it's thousands of years into the future so it could just be voodoo space magic.
On the one hand you say you appreciate if stuff is physics based (which I agree to). On the other hand, you say now it would be fine if the explanation is "it's just voodoo space magic".
If voodoo is okay as an explanation then we can explain also other quirks in the game with that and we don't have to be physically accurate.
In my opinion, voodoo space magic is not a cool explanation for game mechanics.
It’s beyond all reason.. That logic has been used from the start
what are u talking about...they would get deflected when coming from the outside...nobody said anything about not using physics.
just that they wont get deflected from inside the shield...
did you even see plasma units and how it looks when they shoot inside the shield? its retarded.
I honestly cant believe anyone is defending this.
I’ll agree it’s a little ridiculous with blocking internal stuff. That’s about all I have to say in agreement though, I still think it’s a good thing to have. Beside that, it just sounds like some people enjoy spamming hordes of Fido and Sheldon’s…..
I think this thread shows that wysiwyg is rather subjective
It makes sense to me that a deflector would work at any range inside of the shield
I think most people envision these bubbles to have an ''inside'' and an ''outside'' and it's kinda intuitive that if you wanna wreck the shield you run your units on the inside and target it. It's also kinda implied by the word shield 😛 Which is something you put between you and the bad thing, but this is just semantical (which still relates a bit to wysiwyg I guess). I have to admit this caught me offguard when I started. (But my expectations were also influenced by FAF, where the shield does not protect on the inside)
I’ve figured that since there isn’t any visual showing the dome being projected from the building itself there’s just a bubble region around and inside the dome. Maybe it just doesn’t look the way it works
To me it’s definitely getting what I see
but besides how it looks in terms of gameplay its also bad an ielegant how plasma units need to run right adjecent to it to kill it...
Here’s a thought, why are you sending plasma units in against something that can be countered by lasers and rockets? You could quite simply just not send plasma against anti plasma
thats not how games work, it just sometimes happens
if its deflector why it looks like shield? its basically only problem for wysiwyg
if it would looked like repulsor nobody would got confused, other issue is make it look like repulsor and make it not look like ass and not be complete mess
Are there scifi shields that behave as solid spheres, rather than shells? Every other energy shield I've ever seen in any medium doesn't inhibit the enemy once they've crossed inside.
Although I can’t say personally as a guarantee there is I vaguely recall something that’s arguably close to our current tech capabilities called an archology dome, meant to channel and manipulate weather particles and other elements making them healthy to live in when surrounded by noxious environs
I think in submarine titans shield generator destroys all enemy projectiles (and units) in its radius, and i think if it comes online when something is close to it (not outside) it will be destroyed too
I was joking you doofus
lol I was joking too. Who is the doofus now?
