#Massive framerate drop then crash

In this game https://www.beyondallreason.info/replays?gameId=bf638e6364f49eee75c6d31f29426cf3 I experienced massive framerate drop some time into game, then managed to crash the game by switching to different tty (on linux flatpak version). I reconnected, played a little then the same issue repeated. After that game I haven't been able to watch any replays, they all crash. I tried local bot vs bot match, which played fine, then framerate dropped from 150 to single digits, then game crashed. I re-tried this with appimage version, same result. I haven't tried a pvp match.

Is this known issue or new?

I haven't had issues like this before, and I played a 24-minute game on the same day without issues.

I won't be able to help you personally by please share info logs and replay files so engine devs have a chance to debug this. I don't think it's known issue.

Replay is availiable at the link i gave. What logs and where are they?

seems like weird hangs

did you change settings right before crash?

#

vsync on adaptive?

#

last few strange hangs/crashes were fixed by lowering or removing any OC on the CPU

topaz prism
#

I haven't changed any settings. Probably all are on defaults, can check later

#

What do you mean by OC

silent umbra
#

an OverClock

#

manual ones, but sometimes also preset ones (some mainboards offer OC-presets - which could make BAR unstable - it needs 100% stable CPU to not crash or desync

#

Hopefully some more people can take a look at your infologs

topaz prism
#

Oh, I have definitely not clocked my cpu

silent umbra
#

how much GPU ram do you have?

#

FeatureDrawDistance = 600000
FeatureFadeDistance = 600000
GroundDetail = 200

from springsettings, these could be lowered

#

features to like 50000
groundetail to 100-120

topaz prism
#

6GB of VRAM, should be enough

#

(this far has been)

#

And this didn't happen always on big maps

#

I saw it with relatively few units on a small map

#

FPS dropped suddenly from 150 to zero, probably didn't run out of resources

silent umbra
#

I'm under equipped to help you any further

#

<@&760784285438312459> perhaps someone can help Majiks further?

topaz prism
#

Maybe they don't need to. I just tried to re-watch the Forge replay

#

worked fine

lapis pecan
#

delete LuaUI folder and springsettings.cfg
that will reset all your settings

topaz prism
#

Got almost 2x speed until the end

#

FPS over 10 with 2x speed all the time

lapis pecan
#

sounds like GPU things

topaz prism
#

I will scream, if this happens again

lapis pecan
#

if sim is good but graphic goes 10FPS

wow i've never seen these

topaz prism
#

Some might have been caused by going to other tty

#

Ctrl+alt+F-key

#

I use it to kill full screen unresponsive stuff if I cant otherwise

unkempt yoke
#

this may sound silly, but you have rebooted PC since, right?

topaz prism
#

nope, haven't in many days

#

but

#

I did log out another user

unkempt yoke
#

I know its linux

#

Could you perhaps give it a shot?

#

Might be driver related

topaz prism
#

I will restart if I see this again. But I haven't had driver updates a while, these require restart anyway

unkempt yoke
#

Not updates, just a pure reboot

#

Dont change two variables at once XD

topaz prism
#

I will restart if I see this again. I don't want to stop collecting data, maybe it happens again

In your logs, look for stack traces

thanks BAR Team! You rock!

(Hope it also heads towards a solution)
(then i can add "reboot your PC" to solve all your problems to the website FAQ ๐Ÿ˜„ )

Have you tried turning it off and on again is literally the first step in every troubleshooting guide, but Linux users cling to their uptime like it's a badge ๐Ÿ˜„

I know, in guilty of it as well

I love quirky things in people

topaz prism
#

The thing is, it generally doesn't help with linux

topaz prism
#

Apparently Manjaro has forgotten to notify me that there are updates, my system was very out of date. I updated and restarted. I feel a bit embarrased now.

topaz prism
#

Hard to say. I did play on Wednesday w/o problems, then had problems yesterday, updated, played w/o problems. The issue seems to be somewhat intermittent. I'll close this thread if no more issues appear in a few days.

topaz prism
#

I have experineced no more issues this far.

#

I am experiencing this same error as far as I can tell. I am on a fresh fully updated install of Manjaro but when playing multiplayer games the game will either crash while loading or a few minutes in. I think these are the right log files.

Did you try flatpak update?
