Hi all, there was a known save issue before V0.7.81
We're updating with fixes for losing progress, and if you've been affected by the game not saving can you please email us your save folders to help debugging.
Go to this folder on Windows:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Twice Different\Winnie's Hole
Please .zip everything in this folder and email it to [email protected]
I'm gonna tag folks who've mentioned they're affected - we really wanna help resolve this ASAP

This issue actually happened a second time with me after deleting my old save. Here are my save files:

Is the game actually deleting your old saves? Or it's just not loading them?
For me it created a brand new save "profile" (actually a folder).
I fixed it by just copying the contents of the old save folder and pasting them on top.
Since it is a brand new save at load there wasn't much of a reason to back up the files (but I did it anyway).

Without looking at logs, just reading comments, it seems it creates a new save and then loads the wrong one

I just sent over my zip to the email. At least I only played about 2 hours. It's cool. After this gets patched, I'll easily get back to where I was

I actually tried to close the game from the menu, but it seemed to just lock up. I alt f4'ed it

I did have an issue last night, when i tried to close the game normally via the main menu it got stuck on the confirmation window and so i had to end the process with task manager and when I woke up this morning it seemed that the progress from that specific session was lost but everything prior to it was okay

I remember the second time I had this I had to Alt+F4 because I was stuck with the exit game popup

There are four save files that the game uses
which can be found at
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Twice Different\Winnie's Hole\XXX where XXX is your steam ID.
global, player-0, state-0, and video

After testing I suspect the game is stuck trying to save one file and can't.
When you click exit we force the game to wait to finish saving, but when this particular bug occurs, the game will wait indefinitely.

it seemds to have managed to save right before the run where i beat eeyore and unlock tough strain if thats anything relating to it

This seems to be the issue. The devs are working on fixing this, so it will probably be in the next hotfix

After uploading your folder, maybe try restarting, sometimes that seems to fix it? If it doesn't there is nothing we can do. This is one of the downsides of early access. Yes, you get to play the game early, but you also get to experience all the early bugs

Just for reference, early access is a delicate balance. It connects creators and players, bridges gaps in funding, allows people to influence development, gives them a chance to play the game before everyone else, but it also includes unfinished and unpolished parts, bugs and glitches. The goal is for everyone to work together to make the game the best it can be for the actual release. And I am certain it will be even more amazing when it's done

If you are refering to me going to the exit the game dialogue and it preventing me from exiting that dialouge, but also not accepting either choice within that dialogue, I was stuck. I used Ctrl + F4 to close the game.

You Dev's fixing all the saves is a stop gap. It's mutch easier to tell people how to fix their own games.

I'm not seeing it in my testing but please let us know if it happens again, and continue to send us files if you get it with this update - we've added a lot more debugging to the update to help us LOCATE AND CRUSH THIS BUG (if it still exists)

Just did a run with the new patch and did not get any issue with the save after successfully exiting and reopening the game.
(It was a pretty good run, managed to extract the specimen and the bucket hat!)
Let us hope the others also no longer have this problem.

Hi, I wanted to confirm as well. I had the the save issue everytime I finished a run(win or loss). Just finished a run, closed and reopened the game without issue with the save intact.

Lol oh no looks like I last played right before the hot fix was pushed out and since I had to alt f4 lost my progress. The game updated right after I closed it last night. 
Finally got to the pc today and launched the game. Time to start over lol

Sorry to everyone who lost some progress, we’re also very frustrated by this and still testing to confirm if the fix is working.
It’s been a nightmare on our end as it doesn’t happen to everyone so it’s hard to reproduce.
If it happens again - if you lose progress while playing the latest version please continue to send us your files.
We’ve added more debugging info to the game to help check this issue. We really hope it’s resolved.

I need to add this to the thread notes as the first thing to do if the game won’t open. Sometimes Steam gets out of sync or has an issue installing.

The problem was that the save was never created, so there is no way to recover anything

Absolutely, this was a nightmare bug that slipped through our testing… but yea we were working like mad to diagnose and fix it so we appreciate folks like yourself who sent us their saves to examine
