#Duplicating a thresholded(?) halftone effect

Image 1 is what I am trying to recreate. Image 2 is what I have so far. I am working on CMYK colour mode so the filter gallery is not available to me. I thought it would be better to ask than mess around with half dots and thresholding and blending modes to not avail.

Thanks in advance

Make the elements requiring the halftone effect in a separate PSD using RGB Color Space. Then you can use the Filter Gallery. Convert and/or import the artwork into the main layout afterwards.

I can tell the left image is thresholded because the whiter parts of the goose have less contrast but mine seems to be the err opposite?

You can try a Levels Adjustment on top...

#

You could also take that farther by converting those Layers to a Smart Object, applying a Camera Raw Filter. And then making Adjustments to the Light Settings and Curves...

#

If you're more concerned with getting some "exact" value of grey that you can define, you could always just drop a Gradient Map on top and explicitly choose those values on the gradient ramp.

#

Here is my example PSD. Take a look at it, modify it, use it, whatever you like.

not a question but the levels filter instead of the threshold is exactly what I was looking for. thanks for recommending it!

@forest jetty you didn't happen to have black/white as foreground/background colours when you applied the halftone filter did you? i'm trying to replicate the effect and it seems I'm getting a different result? (left = mine, right = yours)
