Hey yall, I'm new to the discord but I'm working on a personal project for replica graphics, and was just wondering if anyone had some tips to help me achieve an airbrush texture like the one pictured? I've got no luck playing around with the default brush settings so far lol

Airbrushes were (are!) still dignified spray paint machines so you need those specks of paint around the edges that will look like they are making things blurry when you look at it from a distance.
The effect (depending on the setting of the nozzle) would be that of a very neat streak of paint, surrounded by a cloud of small drops of paint
As usual if pays to get a reference of the real life effect

So I don't think it can be achieved with a standard brush, however you play with the settings

#

You will probably have to tweak their settings so that the cloud is thinner

those are very solid, would you recommend using some sort of mask for each individual streak/cloud like a real airbrush?

I would suggest reducing the scatter and increasing th count

You can play with the Quick mask mode (so it actually will remind you of the Rubylith/Frisket film that was used) to create selections without necessarily go the full mask more (1 mask = one layer, so it could add up very rapidly)

Shop/look around for brushes. There are actually lots besides the link I shared that are offered for free or for very little. Good places are for example

i was youtube searching for some free airbrushes a few months ago, and some of the results were less than spectacular haha

Yes there is a lot to try and reject!
I won't lie, you could make your own, but for spray paint, it's not as straightforward as for say, a pencil or similar

oh definitely, ive spent hours fiddling with brush settings on this project alone to no avail lmao

i know as a mouse user i can use the fade size jitter control to taper edges at least, so if there isnt another way thats more akin to that brush style then i understand

You can simulate it as you said, but it's never as natural as the pressure sensitivity (BTW, you can find cheap tablets at £/€/$ 30 and now it's a good time to have a look at the "refurbished" section on your favourite online retailers)
