Cool. I hate to admit it, but if you ever use TIKTOK.... there are some good creators that show you how to do neat photoshop tricks and each video is only about 60 seconds long.

Even with archival footage, there a threshold beyond which the pixel density is of little or no additional value. It may just be adding file size for no good reason.

But I've dealt with sat imagery and photos from aircraft cameras with exposures at that size so who knows. :)

I see some people are wondering why I scan my pics so big. This sized pics is mostly pictures of groups of people. This type of pics i scan 2400dpi to be able to see faces better. Portrait pictures where people are closer to the cam i scan smaller. A portrait would be ok with 600dpi i guess but i never scan smaller than 1200dpi. Thats the minimum. Exception is text, newspapers etc.. I scan these at 600 or 800dpi. It makes big files but this is not in the 1990*s with floppydisks and small harddrives. Harddrives is cheap today and they are big.

I scan old pictures and historic pictures. Im trying to collect old pictures before they are lost and i try to identify people on these pictures.

I see all the time that people are scanning their pics to small. I want to archive mine with high resolution. To scan pics in 300dpi will not look good on a 4k monitor but may fill the screen on a low resolution laptop. Pictures comes in different sizes and the dpi setting will produce the size in pixels. A 4k monitor is 3840 pixel wide. If you want to blow up the pic to 200% the picture should atleast 7680 pixels wide.

A picture that measures 10.4cmx6.3cm creates a picture that is 2480x1500 pixels when scanned with 600dpi. Its to small for a 4K monitor.
If you scan the same picture with 1200dpi it creates a picture that is 4960x3000 pixels. This is something many that uses small resolution monitors like laptops are not aware of... small pics looks good on their montor while it doesnt give the same pleasure to watch on other screens.

This is a group picture scanned in 2400dpi to be able to zoom in for details and better be able to identify people. Try this on a low resolution file and see how faces looks.

I dont care about prints. Just pics for viewing on screens.

tldr dpi doesn't matter when you are designing for screens

Its only the resolution that matters. I have a 3840 pixels wide 4K monitor. I need a 3840pixels wide picture to fill my screen. When i scan, what dpi i set in scan settings, will decide how big my pics resolution will be depending on what size the papercopy have. Thats the only time i care about dpi.

Exception is when the properties shows only 300dpi when pics is scanned in 2400dpi. I care about that 😆

Yes that was the only problem. Camera Raw settings changed that before it sent the picture to PS. The resolution and the quality of the pic was the same so it was no problems with that. It was just annoying that it have changed 300dpi in the settings. I always check there to see what dpi I have used to scan the pics with.

paint tool fills in entire areas. if there's a slight gap, it'll fill up most of the screen like that. it's good for filling up closed sections with the same color

if you want something with more control, you could try using the brush tool underneath the layer with lines

you could feather the edges of the image that overlays the background. make a selection of the empty pixels outside the mountains, feather and delete. Alternatively, use eraser with low hardness settings and freehand erase some edges.

That's a trickier trick that may be better explained by other users. I'd probably make a feathered selection again and manually adjust hue & saturations. There are some 'match color' options, but I can't think of them just now.

Context: I'm looking to introduce the assistants/secretaries at our company to basic image editing. Nothing fancy. I just want them to be able to resize, crop images and put text on them. Currently these kinda requests all go through our webdesign guy which is a total waste of resources.
Since it does not make sense to buy Photoshop liceneses for all those employees that need to crop an image twice a month: What would be a good software to use?
GIMP? Paint.NET? Or an online tool like Photopea?

I think Photoshop Express is free. Although, I don't think you can really add text easily to an image. Open, crop, filter, export is simple and its a good tool for that.

And Ps Express is available on everything, phone, tablet, PC.

Though the UI and features may vary.

I believe you can remove the among us text with the clone stamp tool (alt click to set a source that's what what you're clicking should look like, then draw it over the text) and maybe some spot removal tool, and then it's finding a similar font and putting text back over it
