@blissful wolf Very creative interpretation to the challenge. Lovely design and execution. The gradient in the fish makes them look electric. Solid color palette for a very cohesive design. Nice textured BG. Solid job all around.
@compact pecan Very well done!!! Your drawing nails it. Crisp clean font. Solid color palette. I love the highlights all along the shark. It has a real sense of movement. 👏
@low wren No need to apologize. Youre not late. The only time frame here is to finish the 9 challenges by 08/20. Really solid design for the PromoInfo. Informative. Creative. Beautifully rendered. Excellent color contrasts. the coloration on the octopus is beautifully done. I would nit pick one thing. The font for the factoids is hard to read in the size you have. I would suggest you increase the size of the font or go to a simpler more easily read one at that size level.
@vagrant rapids Lovely composition for the Illustrated Creature exercise. Tremendous sense of realism. Beautiful coloration. Shadows work well. Nice texture to the BG. Awesome effort. 💯
@sweet cedar Nice bright fanciful playful design. The color palette works well together. Good work on the highlights and spots. Good work
@paper shadow Good effort on the Illustrated Creature design. Why not Transform the image to make it larger? Easier to see?
@strange sun We've had a number of challenges in the past where we used brushes to turn a photo into a painting. It looks like thats what you did here. Creative interpretation to the challenge. The way you left the penguins face out of your transformation, its as if the penguin is wearing an overcoat!!! 😂 😂 Very fun image. The way you depicted the snow is also cool. Good job
@eternal mica , thank you!!!

Thanks! can't find random lorem ipsum i dont know why
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
Better late, than never!
@glossy oar Lorem Ipsum is just the random letters Adobe creates as a place holder whenever you create a text field. Just click T icon for the text tool then click and drag a text box where you want the text to go. Adobe auto fills it with what we refer to as Lorem Ipsum (because thats the first two words of gibberish the letters form)
Thanks for the feedback, I though there was something so I will do a version 2, hope you will like it better for I did some tweaks to it and a new text, this time I used Notepad++ to rewrite the text, and if I say it self is more fun to read compared to the text in version 1.

Ps DCC 2021-8 Challenge #3 Illustrated Creature 7-29-2021
I try to get some dynamic bye use of puppet warp
@elfin sparrow Youre not late at all. The only time pressure for these challenges is to complete them by Aug 20. You can move at your own speed. Your cover design is well done. The color palette is very cohesive. The way you embedded the hint of the objects adds real interest. The waves are well done. The text on a path is spaced out nicely. This is personal preference, but I think the text, especially the topline, could be highlighted to make the image pop and convey a stronger message.. Good work
@rancid vapor Very good job on your cover design. The wave drawings have a real sense of motion and depth. The color palette is clean crisp and bright. One tweak Id suggest, how about having the box go behind the bottom wave where it meets the purple wave? Just a thought.
im case studying
hi, here my challenge 1
Here my challenge 2, what do you think of the layout ? overall it's good but the location of the images that bothers me (especially the one on the right)
Hi everyone! So I just joined the challenge last night and have finished my cover, mood board, and informational promo. Hopefully I can get some feedback on them 🙂 Thanks so much!
Here is my mood board
Here is my informational promo on Seahorses 🙂
@wary swan Nice job on the Illustrated Creature drawing. The colors make a sharp bright overall look.
Is it my image or is the drawing blurred?
Thanks for the feedback Ted , yes it is blurred that is my brush how do that effect, together with the water pattern I add to the blue background

Day 3
Day 3 - Still behind, but enjoying every moment of these challenges
I really like the shadow effect on your orca as well as the gradient look to the fins.
Thank you☺️ unfortunately the quality hasn't come out as I expected, its too dark, is it okay to share another copy?
My result from PS DCC #04 - color & depth
@young karma yes, of course you can post an updated version
@young karma Many times I'm not certain how my design will look once posted. I post it. If I'm very unhappy with it, I delete it and repost. If I just want to tweak it, I may leave the original and just repost.
@young karma There are very few rules here. Be respectful. Be family friendly. Stick to current Ps DCC. Have fun.
@eternal mica easy to remember for sure, but I wasn't certain about this
@young karma Please feel free to ask any questions you might have. We're here to help. Is this your first DCC?
@eternal mica yes, this is my first, so I'm very careful with everything 😅
@jolly quest Thank you for the images they are great

@young karmaI see your first post was last night. I apologize for not noticing that you just joined. I should have given you a better welcome. In any event, welcome, Youre in a great place to enhance your Ps skill level, meet wonderful creatives from around the world, and have fun. If you need help figuring anything out, feel free to ask. What is your Ps skill level? Your designs say youre pretty advanced.
@eternal mica its okay, it was very good advice you gave me yesterday and. wow, I don't know how to measure my photoshop skill level, but in terms of time I've so far I've used illustrator and photoshop for 6 months.
👍
Day 4 - I really enjoyed exploring all the different fish that live within the ocean! 😃
Day 2: Species Info. Images from #CreateWaves library & AdobeStock. Info from NOAA & Wikipedia.
Challenge 4
This is so cool, great work
Day 3: "Illustrated" Stock images from #MakeWaves, AdobeStock with textures added, primarily Flypaper. I really can't draw, except once in a while with the pen tool on a day my hand doesn't shake much.
PsDCC with VooDoo Val - Day 3 - Illustrated Creature
Spoiler: It's not a cat.
@rancid vapor I like that you did design variations for this! They're all nice, but I think I like the added contrast of 1 & 3 with the lighter background. And I think I prefer 3 because of how the different color waves break up the big shapes a bit more and the bottom wave repeats the color of the text at the top. Nicely done!
@pliant comet Not a cat, but turtles can be pretty cute too. This looks awesome! I like the pearlescent sort of look of the shell, and the color looks great too. It gives it a very ethereal/magic look which is really. Really nice texture on the rest of the turtle as well as the background. Looking good!
@forest aspen This looks great! Really cool illustrated look to it between the watercolor looking coloring and the textures. This kind of looks like it could be a boost cover for an illustrated book about blue whales. Nice job!
@autumn pasture Very nice, the gradient gives the depth of the water a convincing look and the illustrated look to these elements all came out nicely. I like the texture too!
This was fun, and there's a BLOB FISH!!!!
@forest aspen I really like how the whale's tail frames the block of text at the bottom. The colors of the text fit nicely with the color of the whale which gives everything a nice unified look. Well done!
@wise lantern Really cool idea with all the different sea creatures at different levels! It makes for a very informative and entertaining graphic. The blob fish will forever haunt me. I didn't know this until recently, but I believe the blob fish is really just a dea sea fish that essentially "melts" when brought to the surface since they're not really meant to survive anywhere but way down deep where their bodies are built for crazy levels of deep sea pressure. Poor fellas. Here's apparently what they look like normally.
@median adder Nicely done! The different levels of the ocean are looking good and have a nice distinct separation. I like all the added sea creatures. Nice texture too!
@young karma Very cool! This came out really well. I like the addition of the graphic shape and text which make it look like it could work as a logo. The texture and orange color give it some nice interest and contrast. Looks good!
@dusky wave Nice job, I like the sense of dimension and texture on the ground shape. The sea plants are looking really nice too. If I had any suggestions I think it might be that you could vary the values between the different levels of water a bit more for some added contrast and separation between the shapes. Nicely done!
@cerulean marten Nicely done, I really like the different colors and patterning on here! It's a bit tough to tell if the background is water or clouds. More of a blue tint might help sell the water look, and more distinct cloud shapes might help sell the cloud look depending on what you were going for. Nice job!
@keen sinew Great colors! The blue and orange have some really nice contrast, and you did a great job with the shading too. The deep shadows separate the shapes nicely and give it a really nice sense of depth and form. Very cool textures too!
@young karma Looking good! I like the boldness of the bright white text and orange parts of the whale, but I feel like the silhouette of the whale is lost a bit against the dark background. Perhaps losing the dark drop shadow could help it stand out a bit more? Nice work!
This is beautiful
You are so clever
Started the challenge a bit late, so only finished the first two days work. Here's my Day 1.
Day 2 - A simple info promo. Would love some feedback 🙂
Ps DCC 2021-8 Challenge #4 Colors & Depth 7-30-2021
#createwaves Hi, it’s my first editing picture on photoshop. Information promo i want to get suggestions. @jolly quest @bleak fossil
Can you throughly guide me on colors and types. I just listen carefully and uploaded regularly.
Challenge #04: Colors and Depth. I did ocean zones in geometric shapes. I have added only one shark I have got. I made some decoration by means of shapes, rotating to this composition. Sun rays are on purpose on bg seen. And also used Ps patterns. I will add some more creatures later.
Nice version
Really nice presentation! I also included the Titanic in mine - it’s pretty far down there.
Thanks a lot, Kajrov! You did better.

Day 4: Color and Depth
Mood Board completed.
@young karma Im not sure what you mean by "case studying". Interesting variations on the Illustrated Creature drawings. Cool to see the multiple looks you created. I really like realism of the first drawing, and the smiley face in the middle.
@limber thistle Very good job with your mood board. Nice cohesiveness to all the elements. One tweak i would make is I might space out the images so there was no overlap. Since there is only one, it looks a bit out of place. Your PromoInfo design is very well done. The colors look great together. The way you inserted the images looks good too. My one tweak would be to think about the script font. Since it is rather small , its a bit more difficult to read than a non script font would be. You might want to change that.
@deep river Welcome to the group. We're happy you decided to join us. If you have any questions or need help finding your way around, just ask. We're here to help. Your cover image is well done. The color palette is cool crisp and fits the ocean theme we're all working on. I'd suggest a couple of points on your texts. I might adjust the drop shadow a bit to create some contrast between it and the main text. (color, opacity) And the same with the light colored text. the bevel emboss needs more contrast to offset it from the text. Your mood board has a nice cohesive look and feel. One small tweak Id suggest is to give the images a little room to breathe rather than have them merge right into each other, and to allow some space between the images and the color swatches. Your PromoInfo card is very well done. The images are inserted well into the design. The upper right design adds interest to the page. One comment I'd make is to go back to your mood board and update it for the color palette/images/font you used here. They dont appear to be part of what you presented there. I believe one of the fonts was but not the one in deep purple.
@brazen basalt Beautiful work on these three designs. The Mood Board is well done. The color palette fits the theme. The way you chose to exhibit the color swatches is very interesting. The gradient brings all the elements together. The one nit pick Id make is that the separator line is washed out by the gradient in the top center. Perhaps go with a bit of a darker shade to make sure it doesnt get washed out anywhere. The PromoInfo card is very good. The design and execution are well done. The round shape at the bottom sort of mimics the round jelly picture. The outline box, brings everything together. One nit pick Id make is that the small script font is difficult to read. Id suggest increasing the font size to enhance the legibility. Your Illustrated Creature is an interesting interpretation to the challenge. It looks like an ink blot test!! Having the teal outline is a neat addition. And I like that you repeated the outline box to add a "logo" to your two designs, which I imagine youre going to carry forward throughout.
@forest aspen Boy, I'd love to "really cant draw" like you and end up with an image of this quality!!! Beautiful concept and execution. The color palette is perfect for the ocean theme. The abstract BG has a very underwater look. There is a strong cohesive look between the text and the whale. One tweak Id suggest, since the large text is so thin, Id add an effect to give it a little more contrast from the BG.
with VooDoo-Val
@quiet ridge Good concept on your Colors & Depth design. The sea life you added at each level adds interest to the design. I think the text can still use a bit more thought. In the first one, I believe the stroke is a bit too thick for the size of the text , making it difficult to read. In the second one, I believe the text needs some more contrast to stand out from the BG especially in the bottom where the image is so dark. What do you think?
Thank you @eternal mica I will play with it more tomorrow
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
@novel mica It looks like this is your first submission. Are you first joining the DCC/Discord group? If you are, welcome. Very cool crisp color palette to your cover design. The waves you drew look fine. One tweak Id make is to play with the size of the fonts on the different lines, so as to make one line the focal point of the design, either the top or center one, and cut down the size of the date font a bit to lower its importance. I might also add some pop to the design by adding an effect to the text, creating more contrast between it and the BG colors.
Thank you
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
@lapis roost Your Mood Board is well done. There is a nice cohesive look to the images, textures, and color swatches, which should work well as you use them going forward. The PromoInfo card is well done also. The text on a path above the dolphin works. The deep blue frame around the text makes it a focal point of the design. The white text is clear and legible, event though it is not very large. I would suggest you update your mood board with the images/font/colors that you used here, which may not have been in your original plan.
@wary swan Your Colors & Depth design is sharp, clear, educational. Good work. The Titanic and Deep Sea Challenger were good additions. One tweak Id make is to reverse the gradient you have for the land. You have the lighter color at the bottom and the darker shading at the top. I believe intuitively, it would look better reversed.
@tardy stream Welcome to the Ps DCC/Discord group. We're happy youve decided to join us. If you have any questions or need any help finding your way around, please feel free to ask. We're here to help. Nice effort with your PromoInfo card. I would suggest that you increase the font size of the informational text. Your design has plenty of open space, which can be filled with the data youre presenting.
@copper moss Interesting interpretation to the Colors & Depth challenge. Besides adding more sea life on your revision, I would adjust the text for the top layer, as the bright white from the sun is washing out the text. One other adjustment Id suggest is to move "Layers" over to the left so that it is completely within the bright blue shape. Im anxious to see your revised design.
Thanks. I got a point that you suggest. That is a thing that i want. You just see my work and do suggestion.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
@young karma I like the modern art look to the Colors & Depth design , and how it will look along with the other designs youve posted. The shadows youve created at each layer's edge adds interest to the design. Although I like the way you switched to a white text for the bottom layer to make it legible, I would suggest why not find a color for all the text that works on all the layers? One other suggestion I'd make, even though I like the dark patterned BG you created, I would use more of the canvas to display the sea levels and less for the dark design. But thats just personal preference.
@compact pecan LOL, I love the last line of your text. YES! Thats pretty deep!!! Lots of good elements to this design. The colors work well together. Te fonts you used are clear and legible. Lots of interesting information, clearly presented. The gradient for the land and for the ocean each work well. The objects you added to the ocean add interest. Tweaks Id suggest. 1. id increase the font of the "Ocean Surface" across the top so it looks more like a title. 2. I would change the text fill on the 200 and 1000 meters to match the other 2 layers.
@elfin sparrow Good job on the Mood Board. Theres a nice cohesive look to all the elements. One nit pick I would make is to make the width of all the white lines consistent. It seems the center line is wider than the other lines. But you may have intended that.
@young karma Your Colors & Depth design has an informative, but at the same time, fun lively feel. The cartoon images you added make the design interesting. Good job.

Hi All. Is it OK to post even though I'm still at day 2?
@unborn raptor I'm guessing this is your first visit to Ps DCC/Discord. Welcome. We're happy to have you join us. Have you watched all of this past week's streams? Please feel free to post any work for any of the 5 days of this series in any order you'd like. If you'd like to receive critiques, please identify which day your post relates to. Any questions, just fire away, we're here to help.
Hi @eternal mica , Thank you for the feedback, those lines were driving me crazy, I cannot figure out how to remove them. I'm a newbie to photoshop, any advice is welcome!
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
Welcome to Ps DCC Discord. We're happy to have you join the group. We hope you enhance your Ps skills, learn a lot, and most of all, have fun. If you didnt "draw" those lines, then its just the white BG from the lowest layer of your layer stack showing through. If that is the case, then I suggest you reorient the four aqua rectangles on your artboard so that an evenly spaced white border is effectively created around each one of them. You can get an idea what Im suggesting by looking at a mood board posted by @young karma , though there the BG color is grey rather than white. E.G. Your bottom rectangle would be Ctrl T hold shift and drag (Scale Transformed) to a little smaller size to gain that effect. A cool tip to make sure everything is aligned is to activate guide lines from the Ruler to the points on your canvas where you want the new shape boundaries to be. If you need more help, just let me know.
Challenge 3: Illustrated Creature. I decided to go another route. I constantly watch the otter stream so I know of all the various enrichment toys they get to play with/eat during the day and wanted to showcase them. It keeps with my otterly awesome theme. 😍 I hope every likes it, and perhaps learns from it.
Help! Can someone tell me how to access the Create Waves CC Library shown on DCC Day 1? I downloaded the starter file, but can not find it. Thanks
Heidi, welcome to our Ps DCC/ Discord group. Please go up to the pinned files in the top right corner of this page. Scroll down to the beginning of this week. You will find VDV pinned the link there. I also suggest you watch the Welcome stream from this past Monday (link also pinned above). The ocean theme for this DCC series is explained in detail there, and you can find the asset file referenced a few times. If you still need help, give a shout out. Have fun.
@void hornet Super post for Illustrated Creature design. Lovely color palette, interesting information, legible text, cute addition of the "toys", especially in that they add spots of color and interest to the overall design. I would make one tweak, by adding prominence/contrast to the title. Brighter? Drop shadow? Larger? You decide.
Challenge #4
Hey thanks. You guys are so cool. I've only just finished with the first two streams. Before moving on to the third, I wanted to post my work for the 2nd challenge. What guidelines are there for file size when I export?
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
Not that it makes that much of a difference, but I figured I give a try to right justified zone text names.
@unborn raptor Discord has an 8 MB size limit for posts here. I dont know what the Behance.net limit is, if there is one. Ive posted huge video files there.
Thanks. Let's see if I can get away with keeping it below 1MB.
@unborn raptor You have total control. Click Export in the File drop down menu. If you need help, let me know.
Finally wading into the deep with PS after poking it with a stick for years!
Okay, enlarged the title and added a darker drop shadow (Do NOT tell Howard!) I also adjusted a lot of the text. I also added some of my squidly images from Illustrator to the ice. It felt necessary! 😜
I like all the tweaks. What do you think?
Thanks @eternal mica. I was able to get it somewhat even and then I got a bit carried away :). As I get a little better I can go back and make the adjustments. Thanks again!
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
This layout works, but I suggest go back to the aqua color for the shape fill. The black makes it too difficult to discern all your elements. Then, I promise, I wont bother you anymore 🤣 🤣 🤣 !!!!
I absolutely love this project! I actually stream the otters almost all day because I can release frustration or annoyance by just watching them play. It's really fun to incorporate them into my challenge. I am glad to get that advice because I knew something was off kilter.
@unborn raptor Very nice effort on your PromoInfo design, especially for a first post. First a general comment. You neednt have the challenge # as part of your design. You can include it in the text you upload the file with. Nice job with the overall BG and the way you selected the manatees. I would suggest making them a lot larger, using much more of the canvas. They are the focal point of your message. You can even have parts of their body behind the text. With the wave effect you added to your text, its a cool effect. But you need to be careful how it handles the words along the edges. You dont want to lose legibility just to create a curve. There ae points on the top and bottom line you can clean up. Lastly, I would increase the contrast between the manatees and the BG by lowering the brightness of the BG a little and maybe adding a gaussian blur to it. I believe you want the center of attention image wise to be the animals. All in all a good effort. Im anxious to see your future posts.
I enjoy your work. Its creative imaginative and exciting. Sort of "otter"-ish !!!!!!
That is for challenge #04: Color and Depth. I updated my interpretation on sea zones. I used shapes: Sun and rays for energy, dots for oxygent. Trees are for connection to space, which is deep blue. And the earth's core in red orange color as it is hot stuff - iron meteorites, fragments of the cores of asteroids and protoplanets. I arranged the rays behind the background as Ted B suggested - thank you very much.
Hi, again. I updated my version with your suggestion. It is above. I spent a bit time to put some fishes and parts of ocean. I used blur on Sun and lowered opacity on dots. Than you, Ted.
Very well done. I really like the changes you made. One final point you might look at. The right edge of the rectangle is a bit short of covering the rocks underneath and meeting up with sky shape above. I would extend the boxes the extra few pixels to make that a cleaner edge. Good effort.
I used the Gaussian blur a little too much on the first attempt, I changed that a bit and added a copy of my whale just for fun. Thank you for the feedback, it really helps a lot
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @bleak fossil
I spent way too much time on this one .... I just HAD to draw all the fish myself just because .... But my did I have fun. It was amazing how many intricate colors and shapes even the most ugly fish have.
Hi, again! I have corrected the right upper edge.
I tweaked the text some I hope this is easier to read now
I think I am done
@quiet ridge I agree its better. Lots of good elements in the design. Good job. Some friendly advice: I believe many times I over think a design. I get committed to a concept, and drive ahead relentlessly, adding and adding. Ive learned from Sam and Valdair and others, sometimes I need to take a step back, go simple. Let the design "breathe" on its own. Many times less is more.
@cerulean marten Lively fun fantasy feel to your Colors & Depth design. Awesome that you drew all those fish. The drawings are so intricate. Thats way above and beyond the normal effort. Adding the sky effect with clouds and birds gives it a special look. Im not sure what the issue is but it seems the birds are being effected by BM to make their wings fade in and out. You might want to take a look at that. Great job.
@eternal mica I agree, but sometimes I have a hard trouble making myself go with less 😎
@quiet ridge Definitely been there; Done that!! Ive become a lot more willing to look at a design and say "nah, this isnt working", and hit delete. My creativity level is nowhere near where Id like it to be. But I believe its getting better. And thats all I ask.
Wow! Thanks dude. I never expected a high-value feedback like that. I appreciate you!

Seriously, my experience is this chat is full of talented, creative, super friendly, helpful people. If you stay with it, you will have the chance to meet them and I'm sure your experience will mirror mine.
my moodboard. had to do a bit of overlapping because i didnt want to shrink the images too much
@winter root Eric, dont be limited by the layout VDV created. You have lots of space to work with. Why not take some of the blank space from the right top two panels by shrinking the width of those two artboards, and use it to widen your left top artboard where you feel squeezed?
Thanks for the feedback, the reason is this the Earth's temperature rises on average about 25 Celsius per km, 77 F deg per 0.62 Mile from the outermost layer inwards and the deeper you go, the more the temperature rises (the geothermal gradient).
There are of course local variations and in volcanically active areas the temperature differences are greater and if the lighter color represents the the warm temperature, The deep ocean (below about 200 meters depth) is cold, with an average temperature of only 4°C (39°F).

UK law, in recognition that lobsters are sentient beings, is debating on banning the act of boiling them alive... I so hope it comes to be.
@obtuse cobalt Very good job with your Mood Board. Very cohesive presentation. The way you presented your color palette is interesting and creative, and it evens adds a bit of motion to the design. I like that you used elements as BG images. The only nit pick I have is I think the three texture images along the right edge might look better if they were in off the edge just enough to show a white frame, like you did with the images in the upper left. But that may just be personal preference. Im not sure.
@warm mauve This is your first post. Wil you be joining for the whole series? We hope so. Your Illustrated Creature drawing is beautiful. It has real depth and realism. The deep blue coloring adds a lot. The highlights are very well done. The BG is a beautiful contrast to the ray. Well done.
@jade plover Good job with your PromoInfo design. (Im not sure the GIF is working.) Very strong color palette. I think it added interest that you colored the lobster blue rather than the traditional red. The text is legible crisp clean, and informative. The two images are inserted nicely and balance the design. The one small nit pick Id look at is the frame of the picture in the lower left. I would work on getting rid of the hard edge to the picture to blend it in better with the area around it. (BM or Blend If???)
ys I love to attend the whole class and I will !!Thank you for your appreciation.
Dog was thrashing me with his tail asking for his walk, which proved a huge distraction! Lol. Lobsters are only red after they've been boiled, and they are mostly boiled alive, so the message is really pertnant. They come in many colours, usually blending in with the ocean floor that is their home, but they are also commonly found as blue
You can watch the Welcome stream from last Monday at a link pinned in the upper right. The rest of the streams are at https://www.behance.net/challenge/photoshop . There will be a live stream for today in 1 hour.
fascinating information
@pliant comet I really hope your turtle is chosen for the createwaves campaign. It's gorgeous! When I looked at it, I was looking for hidden words in the design. I didn't see any. Save Me - (along the outer part of the shell) or something similar would be subtle and inspire. Thanks for sharing. Again, your turtle is gorgeous!! Good luck!!

Thank you so much, CK! When I was making this turtle, I was only thinking, "Can I make a turtle?" But, now that I see that everyone loves him (or her. Or them. I forgot to ask! 😂 ) I should definitely go back and take another look as to how I can take it further.

@grave root I see this is your first post. Welcome to our group. If you need help finding your way around, give a shout. Your Colors & Depth design is a cool interpretation of the challenge. The wavy shapes you created with the textures really came out great. I would make one suggestion. The type for the labels is could use more room to breathe. Maybe you could break the text into two lines to allow for a larger font. I think you second submission might be for Ai DCC?
@young junco Very well done drawing. The power of the wave definitely comes through in your representation. Join us for the rest of the challenge. You can take them at your speed. The window is open until 08/20. If you have any questions about the process, give a shout.
Here is one of my poster pieces for today's challenge! I will actually be making these a series so keep an eye out
I GIVE YOU THE YELLOW TANG
I will complete the Ocean Butterfly Fish from the stream and choose one more to do too!
@dusky swallow Very crisp clean sharp presentation. The color palette brings the design to life. Your font is super interesting. Your texture for the land is very well done. I think the one nit pick Id make is that the fish image in the top layer needs a BM or Blend If to eliminate the frame/BG from the fish. It looks a bit strange.
@muted quail hey, where ya been? Glad youre back in the swing. Cool group of postings. Good job with your mood board. I might suggest a BG fill color. But maybe wait to see if you add more elements as the series goes on and you fill up more of the blank space. The PromoInfo is well done. Informative. Type is legible. The animal image is palced nidely. The light blue squares add interest to the design. The mix of fonts works. It looks a bit grayed out, but I guess you wanted that look. Good effort with the turtle. I think your turtle is way cool. The colors work. A label as to what kind of turtle it is would be a neat addition.
@dusky wave Beautiful design for your Poster. The colors are so soft and cool. The effects you added to each layer work well. Good job
@plucky imp Very good work on your Poster design. You captured the essence of the challenge very nicely. The objects you overlaid on top of the fish add good interest to the design. The BG is also a good addition.
@umbral perch Cool image for the Poster challenge. It doesnt fit the ocean theme we're all working on this series, but it does capture the essence of the challenge VDV presented today.
@steel copper Beautiful design for your poster. The effects you added to each layer work really nicely. The two font message is a cool addition. And the BG works to support the image. The little seaweed drawings also look cool. I think the text on the bottom could use a bit more space, as the letters look pressed on top of each other.
@wise lantern I thought this was one of those "what do you see images"!! It looks like a mascot at a football game running around in a costume. It has two legs, arms, two eyes and long hair!!! Super Cool!!!! 😂 😂 Seriously though, the image captures the idea of the challenge. The effects you added work well. The addition of the bubbles and the fish add interest. The colors you used definitely convey the ocean theme.
@plain sable Susan, well done 1. Color & Depth design and 2. super Poster. 1. The colors work well together. Your wavy design including the stroke for the different strata is a good touch. The sea life adds interest and a sense of motion. I like the textured land element. The title text font is very interesting. A minor tweak I might like to see is a darkening of the land texture as the depth increased to mimic the darkening sea levels. Just a personal preference. 2. Your Poster design is terrific. The shadow effects you added to each layer really show well. The color palette is great. The images you added all look awesome. I might suggest your text be a little larger to make it more legible, but that could be a factor of how large the image actually is. Beautiful work.
@jolly quest Your Poster design is incredible!!! Me thinks someone is having way too much fun leading this DCC!!!!
Day 6
In the interest of time (I’m quite behind on both DCCs) I just took a screenshot for Challenge One. The border got cut off a bit on the first artboard and the shapes and textures are kind of randomly placed. 🤷🏻♂️
Day 5 Poster Design
it might be too busy but this was a fun lesson
Challenge#2 Octopus
@quiet ridge Strong effort for the Poster design. I think you succeeded in getting the effect VDV was driving for. Having the one white bright highlight makes the image look electric. One tweak I would suggest is to play with the green drawing on the top. Its in a awkward position and seems out of place. Perhaps repeat that shape in varying sizes at other points in the design, maybe with some in front of the fish, some behind?
Hi! Here is my Day 2 😀
@tropic garnet Its hard to evaluate the Mood Board fairly when its in a partially finished state. I will make a few comments though. The top font is too faint in the fill color you used. I would decrease the size of "moodboard" so it doesnt overlap the shape. I think it would bring more cohesion if all four title shapes were the same fill color and if you used a more significant font. The frame you placed around the images creates a distracting blank space. Your Poster design is well done. Around some of the shapes, the outer glow is lost in the darker shape below it. You might want to play with that a bit. The BG is an interesting addition. The small images and the drop shadows around them are a good touch.
@sweet cedar Good effort here. Its hard to see the main effect of the drawing which was the layered drawing look, but it does appear that the layers you created are well done. I agree that its a bit too busy with that many additional drawings. I would be interested to see a repost with a lot less distraction. My mentor, @coral stone , always reminds me, many times less is more.
@obtuse cobalt Your PromoInfo is well done. the colors blend really nicely. The fonts you used work well together. The text is presented nicely and legibly. The images are interesting and well placed. The one suggestion Id make is to change the text color of the lower left paragraph to match the upper left paragraph. The white text is getting lost where it runs over the lower left image. Good job
@blissful wolf Good work on the PromoInfo. Your design is clear crisp and neat. The text is legible and informative. One tweak I would suggest is to see how the image would look if the top and bottom shape fill were the same color. The design would probably look more cohesive.
@eternal mica I was attempting to emulate the spray from the blow hole. I agree it needs work
@quiet ridge I apologize. I thought thats what it might be, but the fish didnt look like a whale/dolphin, more like a shark/barracuda, so I decided against it. Try bringing it up against the fish so its easier to understand what it is.
@blissful wolf I like it! The wavy text fits nicely with the shape at the bottom and the top shapes have a really nice balance with the big-medium-small composition you have. Looking good!
@obtuse cobalt Very nice! I love what you did with the colors. It gives it a fun feel and makes the readability really clear. I also like how you repeated the purple from the octopus into the text to tie it all together. The yellow text also creates a great contrast with the purple. Nicely done!
@sweet cedar The depth on these layers is looking really good! The color/value separation in some of the "deeper" shapes gives it a nice contrast too. If you think it might be too busy you could also mask out/erase some of the smaller shapes, but I think you did a nice job!
@compact pecan Really nice job with the shape layering in this Day 5 design! The drop shadows give them a nice separation. I also really like the background with all the complex coral and plant shapes. Nice work!
@tropic garnet This is looking good, I like the color scheme you have going. The illustrated elements of the Textures and Shapes also look like they could make for a really interesting style. Nice job!
As always thanks @bleak fossil

@quiet ridge Really interesting textures! The bevel/emboss effects gives a cool effect with some nice depth. 👍
@jolly quest Looks awesome! Really love the strong, distinct color scheme. Could definitely imagine this being a cool series.
@eternal mica Nice job with the shape layering! I like how the whole thing almost has a bit of a glowing look to it. The warm animal shape works really nicely against the cool purple background. I like how you made the background a bit out of focus too. Looks good!
@steel copper This looks great! I like the color change between the layers, the depth looks good. The shape of the fish itself is also really interesting, it makes for a great silhouette.
Thanks Sam. I knew you would notice the blurred BG. I used a Color Lookup to get that muted purple BG. I wanted it to be interesting, but be secondary to and give good contrast to the main object.

@gaunt veldt Very nice! The circular look almost seems to have a downward spiral effect which is neat. I like all the different sea creatures you added. It could be nice to use a bit of a drop shadow on each layer for an added sense of depth. Looks good!

Thanks @eternal mica. I think from a design perspective you’re 100% right. I am appreciative of the tips. They’re absolutely useful moving forward on the “true” designs.
I tend to use moodboards in a bit of an unorthodox way. I’m generally not considering the design layout of the moodboard itself (for example, I have zero intention of using that bored around the images for any of the challenges and it was more or less a place holder to separate the images while give it at least a quasi-artistic feel.) I approach it more like a throw everything against the wall exercise and refine from there. I definitely would no include this in my actual Behance project or create waves. I know process is an element of any well put together portfolio, but I’ve always considered moodboards to be more or less personal than something I’d showcase. 🙂

not the best - but I did finish. The first time I have heard the music & the base in the background it was really really disturbing & to me made it hard to follow the livestream. we are following her we should not hear the music in the background - TURN THE MUSIC OFF
is there a way to download them? I just see the option of copying them in the library...
@dusky wave In all the time Ive been watching live streams, you are the first person to raise that complaint ...... and I agree 100%. It drives me nuts!!! But we must be in the minority, because most of the leaders have music in the background. I know from past experience, if youre in the livestream Behance chat and you ask the leader to lower the volume, they are happy to comply.
@void ermine, if you copy it to your library, you have effectively downloaded them. A new library will be appear your library tab called createwaves that has all 72 assets.
I know, but is there any way to get the downloaded files? (appart from seeing them in the library?)
@void ermine If you click on view assets>copy to work I believe the files will be downloaded to your CC files

DAY6 part deux. I wasn't happy with my first image, so I messed and messed with it.
Challenge #06: Gradient. I created my brush by pen tool. I needed to have clear lines of sharks. In the first image I combined my big sharks with small children or something made by brush. Used solid, gradient, and also depict by brush other colors. Also clipped an underwater image in BM. Sharks swim circles sort of. And in below 2 images there are flocks of younger sharks. I have now a nice brush of sharks that I can use in other projects. Thanks, VooDoo for your professional work.
Thanks for a little more training with the brush
Day 4: Color and Depth - Pelagic Ocean Zones. Made with shapes, pen tool, textures from
Epson Creative Zone Pirate project #165, stock images from Pixabay, NOAA, and AdobeStock. Since there is a Nation Marine Sanctuary north of me on Lake Huron, and I had a small part in exploring the sanctuary concept and teaching materials, I'd hope to do the pelagic/benthic zones there. But, alas I couldn't find the information I needed, much less images. Drat. So now you have the regular ocean. Images harder to find as the depth increases, oddly enough. 😉
@eternal mica It isn't really drawing when you use stock images.
Gradient Challenge using a radial gradient to simulate the depth effect on lighting with schools of fish in a spiral wave descending into the abyss below. Colors from Create Waves library. Fish brush created using a cutout of a fish from the snorkeling1025fiji16cestari_mm media file in the Create Waves media library.
@gaunt veldt Beautiful job with the Poster design. The shapes you created draw real inspection and interest. The colors are strong and stand out against the white BG and the white shapes you placed within the design. having the text follow the curve of the seahorse is a very nice touch. Great job. 💯
@glossy oar Well done Illustrated Creature design. The color palette you used blends very nicely. The ray image is well done. I would make one small tweak as to the positioning of the image. It would seem it should be much higher up on your palette. Did you try to use Ps align tools?
@wary swan Very cool crisp look to your Poster design. The drawings you added to the body look good. The layers inside the animal dont have the texture/tinting difference that VDV described, but they look good nonetheless.
@copper moss Very nice turtle for the Poster design. You did very well demarking the different layers and creating glows and shadows, creating the effect VDV was targeting. The objects you inserted look great, and have the same well done effects. Your pastel color palette works well for the turtle and for the Bg. Nice work.
@brazen basalt Two very well done designs. Your concept for the Color & Depth design is creative different and well executed. The presentation is clear, clean. The "thermometer" strip down the center is eye catching. The notes and white objects all look great. You Poster design captures the look VDV described. Your layers have good contrast and well done glow/shadows. The data is a cool addition. On each of your submissions youve done a good job with the gradient border.
@buoyant nova Good job with Colo(u)rs & Depth design. Your decision to do a sky replacement is a good idea. It answers a question many people struggled with: what do I do above the water line? Your demarcations are clean crisp clear. I like how you reversed the fill on the text as opposed to the color of the water. Ive gotten a few different reactions to this suggestion, but my personal taste was to darken the land to correspond to the darkness of the sea. But not everyone agrees.
@young junco Im glad you decided to add more posts. Your work is very interesting. The depth you created on the land is well done. This definitely works as a children's guide. The presentation draws attention, the creatures are intriguing, the display is simple to follow , no long Latin-esque words, no extraneous lines or distracting elements. One tweak Id ask you to think about. Because its for children, would it work to have a few labels alongside some of the creatures. Not all, just some of the more popular ones. Very well done.
@keen sinew Oh, I like this Colors & Depth design!! The work you did on the land texture really stands out. It looks so real. The curved blue layers add a sense of motion to the whole image. Even leaving out the facts and dimensions most of us included, the message in the design is clear. The texture in a couple of the water layers is a nice touch. Good job all around.
@young junco Your drawing looks as if it were a real watercolor. Excellent job. The blending of all the layers and shades is beautiful. Out of my own curiosity, would you describe this as related to one of the challenges? Did you use any of VDV's techniques here or is it 100% your own concept and creation?
@dark grail Im sorry, But I cant help with that. I suggest you repost in ask-a-question.
@keen sinew Your Poster design is well done. You captured the design concept VDV presented. The blob shapes you created are interesting. I might suggest you increase the glow on those shapes to get more of the effect. The texture layer you added is very effective.
@buoyant nova Wow, you nailed this Poster design. You captured the effect of the glow and shadows around each layer beautifully. You added just the right amount of objects to be interesting without being distracting. The colors are excellent. The BG is awesome. Super job. 💯
@compact pecan OOOOH I love this. Until I opened it up, I couldnt appreciate it. The array of colors and shapes and motion create a vibrating design. I could definitely see this as an underwater swarm of fish. Great job.
@dusky swallow Your Poster design is excellent. I love everything about it. the pastel coloring is great. You absolutely nailed the layered shadows/glow that VDV presented. You achieved awesome depth on each layer, creating a real sense of diving deeper and deeper into the fish image. The objects you added create real additional interest. The highlight colors you added to the fish work so nicely. And I LOVE the jellyfish!!!💯
challenge 2 sea creature promo - a little behind in this series, but staying on top of the livestreams and i’m loving the mix of challenges, can’t wait to play with gradients and brushes!
@sweet cedar I imagine this is what a scuba diver sees when looking up through a school of fish towards the surface. You created a beustiful design for the gradient exercise. The brush you created has interesting shapes and is spread throughout the design in an interesting manner. You color palette is well done. The blur effect works well. Good job.
@dusky swallow Cool job with the Gradient exercise. The fish brush is interesting. You gave a good amount of variation to the usage so that there is a good sense of depth and motion. Good work. On minor tweak, your font is so delicate, I might do a bit more to create more contrast so it isnt lost in any of the fish shapes behind it.
@compact pecan I like V1.
@copper moss Three powerful images. I think I like the first one because of the contrast between the blue and gray sharks. That creates a real sense of depth and motion. I really "feel" the sharks circling in that one. But I love the electric blue BG in #2. What would it look like if you added the blue sharks to image #2? Very strong effort.
@paper shadow Good effort with the Poster design. Most of the layers seem to have the effect that VDV exhibited in the stream. You might want to increase it on the fish and one or two of the interior layers. Bringing the white BG into the fish via the drawings works well. Nice work.
@forest aspen Lively bright fun design for the Color & Depth exercise. The colors work well together. The objects you added throughout create real interest. I like the texture you added.
@young junco Theres a definite sense of the deep blue sea in this Gradient design. Theres a strong sense of the school of fish swimming off into the distance of the darkened sea. Great concept. Great execution. 💯
@quiet ridge Boy, you were busy today!!! Very exciting that you found so many different ways to attack this challenge. Out of the series, I think I like the first one the best (except for the misspelling of "creat"). In my opinion, it has the best usage of the fish brush tool, the most cohesive color palette, gives more space to the BG, which I think is interesting. Kudos for working on the variations.
Yep VooDoo Val has nothing on me when it come to miss-spelling words or leaving letters out
@frank trellis Fascinating information on the PromoInfo!! The shapes you created on the canvas add a very interesting flow to the design. The picture is beautiful and well placed. My suggestion would be to play with the text, especially the blue fill. Parts of it get lost in the underlying image. Perhaps 3 fonts and 4 text fills is a bit too busy. But that might just be my personal preference. Your Design; Your Decision. Very well done.
@quiet ridge Im embarrassed to tell you how many times I need to proofread my comments before hitting send!!! (BTW MIS-SPELLING 🤣 🤣 🤣 )
😎
@quiet ridge I dont know, I've managed to spell Lorem ipsum wrong in the past LOLLL
@young karma Beautiful presentation for the Poster design. You definitely got the technique VDV exhibited. I think all the interior layers definitely have a sense of projecting forward off the canvas. Perhaps you could add more of the shadow to the fish layer. The objects you added look great. They add a lot of interest. Good work.
lol😂
Challenge #3 Illustration
😂 😂 😂 Now thats hard to beat. Yesterday someone new to the group saw all this Lorem Ipsum chatter and asked "Where do I find Lorem Ipsum, I cant find it". I think I spelled it correctly in my response.

Okay I think I am done for tonight
Yellowfin Goatfish. This took several attempts to get the swirls to resemble water. Making the brush was fun. I drew each fish separately. I'm getting the hang of brushes. Thank you for this opportunity!
@young junco Really nice work with the school of fish, I like the spiraling look of it and how the size changes which really helps the sense of depth. Perhaps an overall increase in contrast with a Levels or Curves adjustment could be nice? Nice job!
@quiet ridge The second and 3rd version definitely has more readability with that contrast, nice job. I did notice your fish brush seems to have a ghosted edge/square on it, did your background have a little bit of grey instead of being fully transparent/white?
@forest aspen Very nice! Yeah, it can be really interesting how alien and hard to observe really deep sea creatures are. This is looking good, I like the addition of all the different animals. This is really just personal preference, but it could look nice to slowly shift the darker levels of water more towards the blue hue the darker they get. Meaning shift them towards blue and away from green just a touch. Oftentimes I do this by making colors darker and I feel like it would work well for water. Just an idea of course. Nice job!
@young karma Nice job with all the shape layering in this. The sort of outer glow rather than drop shadow gives this an interesting look as well. The separation of the layers either way adds some nice depth. 👍
@obtuse cobalt Super cool colors and textures in this! The blue and red work well together within the fish texture. The white stroke around the whole thing does a nice job of kind of containing/unifying all the crazy texture within the shape too. Nicely done!
@tropic knoll Glad to hear you're getting more comfortable with brushes! I really like the swirl on the left side and the softness of the water texture. The fish shapes look great and the yellow is a really nice contrast to the background. Nice work!
@frank trellis I really like the shapes you made with the background image, it adds some nice interest. The right shape frames the text nicely and the contrast makes it easy to read. Looks good!
ok thaks
@copper moss These are great! I really like the first one especially, the dark shapes give a really strong sense of form and silhouette, and the lighter, smaller shapes in the background add some really nice depth. The background really helps sell the depth too. Cool to see the color variations!
@compact pecan I really like this second version of Day 6! The size variation between the sharks looks good and I really like how the shape of the background ones break up a little, but still read. Nice job with the background shapes too!
@dusky swallow Ooh, very cool! At a glance this kind of looks like a fabric print to me which is a really neat effect. Nice job with the custom brush, the size variation adds some great depth!
@eternal mica Ooh, this Day 6 design has a really interesting effect. I like the size variation, and something about it kind of has the effect like we're under water looking up at the surface where more light is passing through. The light shapes in the center with the dark ring works well. I like the contrast between the warm and cool colors too!
Thank you Ted, actually the jellyfish as well as the the other sea creatures that I have used before during the challenge are part of a post work I kept doing after another @jolly quest challenge. I thought it is a great opportunity to use them 😇

Challenge 5
Hey, glad to be back :). Thank you for the feedback!
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
For the painting above that looks like a watercolor of beach waves, I used a summary techniques I gathered over the months from everyone. I have seen @crystal aurora so many times. Last weekend, I was in the mood to "create waves" that I could identify with using whatever I could remember in my noodle. Sort of like a test to see what I could do. I remembered to use some darkish lines to make an outline of the regions from one of own beach photos, then fill them in with a variety of colors and brushes in an artful way, as if I were painting a watercolor sitting looking at that beach scene. It was in the end very simple. I was experimenting with many brush effects. Then I got the idea to make it look like a frontispiece for a Photoshop Daily Creative Behance project as VooDoo Val described in an opening session last week. Finally got up enough gumption to share it. As always thanks everyone for taking a minute to look.

thanks ted! agreed, the text was a little busy/had bad contrast in some places. i made some small changes and like the results. side note: there's a great episode of radiolab all about horseshoe crabs. it's like a bizarro alien abduction story in which humans take crabs (500k/year) from their natural habitats, then remove a third of their blood, and return them to the ocean - only to be traumatized and shunned by their brethren 🦀 💔 i felt like there wasn't enough room in the layout to include all of this, but hoped i provided enough to encourage folks to research this little-known practice that has such an incredible impact on our individual and community health

Please post to the design other channel. This is the Ps DCC channel.
oooh sorry
I remember a swim call off way out from Andros Island after a torpedo exercise in the Tongue of The Ocean where it was very deep. I could see my feet and toes so clearly while treading water. Diving down on a few feet it looked so dark below, only lit up around looking back up and easy to see others around me.
Other times while I was standing watch on the conn with the periscope raised down a couple of hundred feet and panning around with the periscope I could see a dark form or the sub's bow or stern. As we came to periscope depth the scene brightened and I could see seaweed going by. When the scope breaks the water the view is spectacular. It was my job to pan around to look for any contacts and to look up for hull forms. That was fun. Everyone wanted to take a peek through the scope. At night, hardly anything to see except stars above. On the surface coming in or out of port, we usually saw dolphin playing in the bow waves sometimes half a dozen or more jumping out. Memories of fun times 40+ years ago.
If the sky is sky is clear, you can sometimes see contacts way out on the horizon. Curvature of earth and distance above the water limit range one can see. Sonar always picked up things further out.
Wow! Everyone's work is AMAZING! Just getting started with PSDCC.. here's my cover page, thought i'd go a little different... let me know whatcha think 😊
Wanted to give @crystal aurora a caption, but didn't know what to put... any ideas?
WOW What a stream by VDV today!!! Action packed from the opening second!!!
@fluid sequoia oh my god
IS THAT A CARICATURE OF ME???
HOLY MOLY
WELL DONE!!! Goodness that just makes my whole day.
Thank you so much!
Thanks🙂
My first attempt at challenge #6
My Second attempt
Now just fooling around with some filters
Pixelated Sea Animals 🐠
I'm way behind, but here are challenges one (orca whale) and two (octopus). I'd love any feedback anyone has! I'm going for a Lisa Frank-type feel with bright colors and not necessarily realistic depictions of the animals. A little cartoon-y
Day 6, felt like sea gulls weren't getting enough attention.

@bleak fossil Ps DCC 2021-08 07 Pixel Art
@eternal mica That Extrude looks REALLY cool. I love it!
@jolly quest I love that effect, its one of my favorites. Im always looking for an excuse to use it. And I just feel it fits a giant whale!! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to throw it out there.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @jolly quest
@vagrant rapids Well done! This is a really great looking promo! I think the only thing I can really pick out that could benefit from improvement would be the body text. I looks great and I can read it, but I think you could boost the visibility even more if you made it a lighter color to really pull it out of the background
@vagrant rapids That fish illustration!!! OHHH THAT LOOKS SO GOOD! I wouldnt change a thing! Excellent work!
Thanks a lot for your feedback @crystal aurora - I agree I wanted to ask the question of legibility- I will increase the size of the text 🙂 Thanks again!
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @jolly quest
@wise lantern Nice work! Love the way you used the fish brush to show depth! Nice!
@wary swan Ohh nice! I love the ocean creatures you chose! Well done! I think you can improve the presentation if you change up the background a little bit though. The Image you chose it a very detailed image with distracts a little bit from your wonderful creatures. I suggest experimenting with adding a soft gaussian blur and desaturating it a bit OR choosing a photo that is a little bit more plain.
@novel mica Very well done PromoInfo design. The colors are cool crisp ocean-like. The gradient and bubbles both work well in the image. You placed the dolphins nicely, and worked the text around them. Good job. The one tweak I would suggest is to create greater contrast between the text and the BG colors. The legibility will be improved that way.
I don't actually think you have to change the size of it because the way you have it now is very well done. (but you can if you want to!) I meant to experiment with the color of the text. Try something brighter, closer to white! Good luck, friend!
Day #1 Mood Board
@dusky wave Well done! These ocean critters look great! You did a great job of keeping the cell size in the added texture the same size and it really helps to keep them all looking cohesive, like they belong in the same group! Nice work!
@glossy oar Your Color & Depth design is well done. The colors are bright and blend well together. I like the way you embedded the pictures of sea life at each strata. Since the images are so small, and some pretty dark, you might consider brightening them up a bit. Your sky drawings add a nice fun feel tot he design. Im not sure I get the rain in a such a bright image though.
@glacial minnow Oh! I love that you added your own background texture to each artboard! Very nice! Also, great colors and assets chosen here!
I dont know if you watched the stream live today, VDV LOVED your updated image!!! GOOD FOR YOU!!!
@brazen basalt WOAH! I love that you chose to make a Seagull brush and not a fish brush. Very unique! I love how it turned out
@copper moss Ted is right! I loved what you created, if you check the stream I did a shoutout for you!
@jolly quest @copper moss Val, Satlen had presented 3 different brush designs, each was really well done. I told him I liked one because I could sense the sharks "circling" but the electric look of the other was awesome. I asked him had he tried combining the two. He tried it. The result is off the charts!!! I reacted just as you did. Really top notch design
@autumn pasture Your turtle is beautiful. The colors jump off the screen. The lines and shapes create great interest. Have you tried to give some of the layers the glow/shadow effect that VDV presented in the stream? I would think if you did the design would be even more interesting. It might even take on a 3D look.
@eternal mica NICEEEEE
Oh much more legible @crystal aurora - as I was already in white, I increased the darkness of the BG to add more contrast and it works so well. Thanks 😊
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @jolly quest
@winter root Your dolphin is very lovable. Cool soft feel to the drawing. The edge of the dolphin looks like you applied the glow/shadow effect nicely. The center looks like you softened the whole layer. Looks good also.
Challenge #6 meet the squids
@eternal mica thank you!
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
@buoyant nova Your Gradient design is very well done. The fish brush you created has nice depth and variation to it. You took it one step further by varying the colors as much as you did. The swirling vortex has a powerful feel to it. Good going! (I hope it cools down for you; 115 is hotttttt)
DAY 8
@vagrant rapids OHH yes that's an excellent call. It looks great! Awesome challenge entry!
@fluid sequoia VDV already chimed in with her thoughts on her caricature, so i'll stick to the rest of the design. You have a nice color palette going, and the objects add a sense of motion and interest to the design. My suggestion would be to replace the script with one of the other fonts in the design. You have a number of fonts already in the design. The script being spread out, thin, and white fill make it difficult to read. The BG looks good.
Pixelated sea friends.
@plain sable I like # 2 of your Gradient designs. Im not sure why, but I like the faded fish shapes better than the shadow ones. The texture on the fish shapes is a very good addition. The whirlpool you created is very well done. The third image is interesting in a different way. I like the textured look that was created in the whirlpool. I can almost feel the water spinning around.
Day #3
@winter tinsel Welcome. Where have you been? I missed seeing your posts. Good execution on the Pixel Art design. Since you have multiple creatures, I might suggest you play with the intensity of the pixelation in them, using varying levels of the effect for different images. I think it would add even more interest to your design.
@burnt marten You have plenty of time. This series runs through 08/20. Your 1. InfoPromo design (Day2) and 2. Illustrated Creature (Day 3) definitely have a fun cartoon-y feel. 1. The color palette is bright and fun. The gradient in the circle shape is a good idea. I like the double wavy shapes at the bottom and double orca shape on top. The text is neat clear and legible. 2. The octopus is a really fun drawing. Love the colors, the happy feel to it, especially with the happy face. Nice work
Hey there! I’m in school and between semesters so I a jumped into this challenge. I know what you mean about the pixelation. They were all the same size pixels and then I scaled them to fit them all on the page and it seems to have lost something in the process.
@glacial minnow it's beautiful, I love the brush you used for your background! Your color palette is so nice. I say that even if I love whales 😉
Day 7 Pixel Art. Keeping with what works. I used a little of all the filters (mostly)
@gaunt veldt Creative approach to the Gradient challenge. Your drawing is well done. I like the texture you added. The BG design adds interest too. One tweak I might suggest is to alter the scale of some of the strokes in the other colors besides the white ones.
@quiet ridge You captured the effect of todays exercise well. I like that you applied it to different creatures. To add more interest, it would be cool to see the effect with different levels of intensity applied to the different creatures. Nice work
@wise lantern Very well done Pixel Art exercise. Your creatures make a nice combination. Some of the creatures you selected are not easy to pixelate and yet still keep their coloration. You did a good job of it.
@eternal mica I keep hearing Val say we might need a few critters later but they needed to be similar in values
thank you, Ted!

@glacial minnow Beautiful Illustrated Creature. Even though its a killer whale, it looks light bright and fun. The BG strokes really work well. Very strong effort.
@compact pecan Good Job Mate. Very strong design. Good concept. Good execution. I like all the different filter effects you applied to the different objects in the design. Nice work.

Cats don’t like water. Do they?
Ha! I posted a GIF and then thought that maybe I shouldn't do that in this channel so, yes, most cats hate water, but some are quite water friendly.
DCC 5. Seahorse rests in coral. I went through quite a few designs, colors and patterns before landing on these. I hope this makes sense. If you feel something is missing, please let me know. I welcome the insights! Thank you all for this amazing opportunity!
Hello. Challenge #3 - Illustrated creature. I've tried but it doesn't look good.
Challenge #4 - Colors & Depth
Challenge Pixel art
lots of fun with challenge #7! looking forward to the plan for this cool cast of characters
@hearty quiver Really cool! I like how you did so many and there's some variation between the different styles and effects of them all. Some of the fish towards the bottom almost have a glittery/sequin look to them , and the two at the top look like they're from a Super Nintendo era game which is really neat. Nice work!
@frank trellis Interest effects here! I like the colors it creates. It kind of reminds of a static-y TV picture, or an old VHS tape or something. Nice job with all the different animal images!
@young karma Nice job on the Day 3 and 4 challenges! I like the textures you added on the illustrated creature and the background. I think it looks good, though both the turtle and background are a similar darkish value, perhaps making the water lighter (or darker with a lighter turtle) could help give it a bit more contrast and interest. The pixelated effect on the Day 4 challenge looks good too!
@tropic knoll Very nice color contrast between the blues and oranges, the sea plant adds a nice sense of depth with the overlapping shapes, and the soft spirals of the background came out very nicely. Really great texture and design within the seahorse too!
@lime condor I really like the look of your background wave shapes and the caustic looking texture you added with your cover design. Great colors and texture in the pink/blue image too. Very cool!
@paper shadow Very nice, practicing with all these different techniques is a great way to get there. Nice work with the brush shapes, and I like how there's a bit of a spiral pattern to the school of fish. Nice job!
Thank you
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @bleak fossil
@copper moss The halftone texture has a really cool look to it, and the bits of green underneath add some nice contrast. The background lines have an interesting effect to them as well. Nicely done!
@pliant comet Neat effects on this Day 5 challenge! And it's okay, I'm sure we'll all be able to see more cats later on. I like all the layering of the shapes you did within the fish design, and the pops of pink and yellow add some nice interest. Looks good!
Thank you mate
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @bleak fossil
@fading mauve Very nice, glad you're joining! I like it, this is a really solid rendition of an orca into a pixel art style. Nice work!
@compact pecan Interesting style between the different sorts of pixelated looks on each shark. Very cool 👍
@wary swan The background has an interesting texture to it and creates some nice contrast with all the different sea creatures. The pixelation effects came out nicely as well, and the size difference between the creatures adds a nice bit of depth. Though I think maybe the turtle could be a touch smaller so it's not almost creating a tangent with the shark? Nice job!
@eternal mica Great to see you trying out all these different effects! I especially like the look of the extrude image, and the mezzotint. The mezzotint has kind of an interesting, almost felt like texture to it. Nice job with all of these!
@dusky wave These effects for the Day 7 challenge are looking good. I especially like the shark effect and how it has a sort of low polygon 3D look to it. Nicely done 👍
@sweet cedar Nice work with the pixelation effects. I also really like the texture and pattern to the background image in this. The crab has a nice contrast against the background especially due to the orange color. Nice job!
@glacial minnow Very cool, Sue! The whale is looking good and has a really nice contrast against the light background. The background texture also really helps push that illustrated look and feel. Nicely done!
@wise lantern Really cool to see this effect on all these different animals! Really nice job with the masking on all of these, I especially love that puffer fish, hah. Looks good!
DCC 06 with VooDoo Val
Hi there! These are for the poster challenge I believe? I'm not happy with the background. It feels empty without some pattern behind, but I don't want it too busy either. Any ideas? Thank you!

Hammerheads Below the Waves
Used VooDoo Val's gradient techniques with Liquefy twirl to create a murky sandy bottom with features shaped by ocean currents, a custom brush to create wavy sunlight patterns coming from ocean surface waves above, and a custom brush to fill the underwater scene with the outline of hammerhead sharks like a Shark Week poster. I used the puppet warp transform to different curving hammerheads for a custom brush. #CREATEWAVES
thanks sam! this was a fun one!

Thank you! And thank you for teaching this month's challenge. I had no idea how to make brushes, it opens up so many possibilities!

I really like this, I could see a set of four of these with different color water brush backgrounds being printed and framed.
Hey everyone! Long time no see... Let me introduce you "Sushi" my pixelized Clownfish... Too busy (or lazy) to make more ocean creatures but hope you'll like this one. I went for classical PixelArt technique 😉
I love the way you created regions to match curvature of the seahorse and used a blended template of color. Seahorse is nicely inter meshed with coral. Nice wavy background with sunny texture the way sunlight reflects from bottom of an aquarium. 100 for sure. 💯 @tropic knoll
Hello Sushi the pixelated clownfish. Those eyes are curious. Sushi is illuminated like a search light from just outside the ocean aquarium glass as Sushi examines us. Nice colorful swirlies and halftone text banner against deep dark water at the bottom. @hollow yarrow
Could this be a Russo's dolphin? I think you have a playful happy dolphin. Should dolphin be on top of your waves? I don't know. Great waves to simulate ocean current. VooDoo Vale explained how to add gradient liquified twirlies to the background a couple of days ago that might give a natural watery effect. I have kept on trying that and discover new cool ways every time. @winter root

Day 5: Poster Design -- Cut Paper +. I like that not only can we see whales under the sea, but also the deep ocean trenches where only the most hardy organisms survive. cREEated with mostly AdobeStock images & textures with a rainy windowpane stuck in from Pixabay.
@solar creek I really like seeing the Belugas in their native habitat. The text following the image edges is nice, but think about moving it a bit farther away -- the whales need room to breathe 😉 I would also suggest few words with a larger font and more spacing between letters and lines. If this is indeed a poster, it needs to be scanned quickly and easily. Maybe just use the facts about their sounds???
Thank you so much for the feedback! I agree, I felt like the information was a bit much and considered doing more of a fun facts style page...good to know my instincts are on point...now to listen to them. I will revamp and repost! Thanks 😁

@hearty quiver I think we missed your Gradients exercise. Your work reflects the technique VDV was presenting. It looks awesome. The color gradations work very well. You captured the effect of the shadow/glow around the edges very nicely. All the objects and their coloration look great and add interest to the design. Very strong effort.
@young karma I like the Brush design, especially the second version. The fish shapes are well done. I would suggest you create a bit more contrast between the BG and the fish swirl. Perhaps some BM on one layer or the other.
@burnt marten Your turtle for the poster design is well done. The layers have the depth and dimension VDV was exhibiting in the stream. The shapes you added are also well done. Nice effort.
@warm mauve Adorable character for your poster design. The blob shapes you created are really cool. Id suggest you play with some of the layers and try to add the shadow/glow to give the different layers more depth.
@young junco Your hammerheads brush design is interesting. I like the sense of motion that the wavy green lines add. The way you distributed the shark images is well done.
@young junco Your concept of how to respond to the pixel challenge is similar to mine. I like the way you approached it. I believe you could push the effect on some of the creatures a bit more. But thats just personal preference.
@warm mauve Very nice color contrast in your Pixel art design. The pixelated BG adds interest. Nice work on the fish. The level of pixelation you applied works very well.
@keen sinew Nice work with these two designs. I think the shadow/glow effect VDV was demonstrating would work better with your design if the layer edges were sharper, more defined. Very good work on the pixel art. The levels you applied work very nicely.
@fluid sequoia I like the look of this text much better. Good job.
@lime condor Good effort with the Colors & Depth design. I suggest you try to add more character to the land shape with maybe a stroke or a shadow layer.
#createwaves
@dull lava Whoa, thats a lot of posting!!! 1. Your InfoPromo has a good look to it. The turtles in the top corner look good. Id suggest adjusting the lower image so more of the turtle is visible. Its hard to see what it is. The text font could stand being larger to enhance legibility. 2. Your Manta Ray drawing is well done. So much of your canvas is blank, why not increase its size? 3. Cool fun work for Color & Depth. The representation of the levels is crisp and clean. The creature drawings you added are fun. 4. Your "catalog" of pixelated fish is fun. Seeing each creature in the multiple formats gives off a fun feel. Showing the original is a good idea. Maybe it would look better if that were on top of the column rather than the bottom. 5. Your IG template is very well done. The flow between screens really works. The images you added are terrific. I would suggest the font be increased to enhance legibility. And Im not sure all that text is going to get read on an IG screen. Perhaps cut down the amount of text. <Whew, I think I made it through all the posts!!>
@copper moss Really colorful eye catching IG template design. I think Ive seen that middle image before, 😜 😜 😜 . The wavy shape across the screens is well done. The colors you selected are so bright. The shark on the right looks like its ready to jump off the page. Strong effort
@glacial minnow Wow, very creative approach to the Color & Depth design. Your texture for the land makes the design really interesting. The creatures you added are cool. I might increase the kerning on the title text. I think the bevel needs room to breathe. And I might increase the gradient of the water to darker at bottom. But all that might just be personal preference. Terrific effort.
Thank you, Ted B. I really appreciate your feedback. I've spent time working on these trying to make them better. I'm not a drawer so these were challenging for me. I love your feedback it really helps a lot as I am my own worst critic.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
@ember wave Beautiful InfoPromo design. I like the way you altered the shape of the artboard to create a whole different feel. The colors, and images are very well done. I might make two suggestions. Because there is so much to see, I might fade the BG to create less conflict with the text. And to enhance legibility, I would suggest a larger more legible font for your main text paragraphs. Very nice effort.
Thank you Ted B. Hooray!
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
@solar creek Ok, here goes, I'll try get to all of them ... 1. Cover image is lovely. The waves you created have a real sense of motion. The textures add interest and break up the different level. I think the date text could be positioned better and the font increased. 2. There are lots of interesting aspects to your mood boards. Very well planned and presented. Lots of interest inspiring aspects. I hope you get to integrate a lot of this into your ensuing posts for the rest of the challenges. 3. The InfoPromo is super. The overall design is awesome. Clear, clean, crisp. I love how the Beluga text has a round bulging shape, much like the whale. The detail text is legible and clear. Nice work all around.
@forest aspen Your Poster design is beautiful. You captured the technique along the edges of your shapes just as VDV exhibited them. Very well done. The overall color of the presentation, the textures, the added designs elements, they all combine beautifully. My only suggestion is that the black text at the bottom is getting a bit lost. Perhaps a little more contrast between that and the darker portions of the BG would help them out.
My pleasure. Dont hold back your posts until theyre "perfect" Post them. Let others have a fresh look at them and help you refine them. Then repost. BTW, you may be speaking with probably the worst "drawer" in this whole chat!! So I feel for you.

@last mica I see youre new to the DCC/Discord group. Welcome. If you need help finding your way around, just ask. We're here to help. Based on the dump of posts you made, I think you got it figured out already. 🤣 🤣 🤣 I'll try to go through your posts one by one. 1. Your InfoPromo is well done. The blobs you created are interesting and the images you inserted are interesting. The text is clear crisp and legible. My one tweak would be to find a more cohesive fill for the lower right blob. 2. Both Illustrated Creature drawings are well done, though I like the second version better. The bright blue spots and the highlights add pop to the image that is missing from the first. 3. The Color & Depth design is a good job. I like the texture and bevel for the land. The water gradients are well done. I feel the image needs more explanation of the message youre trying to convey, which you can easily add via text, creatures, etc. 4. The Poster design is great. You really nailed the technique VDV exhibited in her stream. If you want to go the extra step, add an interesting BG and this design will be super!! Really well done for all the designs.
@dusky wave Just curious, is there a reason the three artboards uploaded separately rather as one cohesive group?
@compact pecan Your IG Template is great. The frames around each screen work so well. The wave effect goes from screen to screen seamlessly. The text throughout is interesting, especially the SHARKS with glow and the way you spaced the letters out. The one tweak I would make is to try to get the text on a path to be consistent. The middle screen looks right on. The right and left seem a bit off. I really like this design!!!
@eternal mica - it was the only way PS would let me export it.
@dusky wave Have you called in to Adobe Tech support to see if they can solve some of your issues?
@eternal mica & @dusky wave I don’t think Discord will let you post different images side-by-side. The work-around (how I did it) is to do a screen shot then post that image (usually saves as a .png).
@compact pecan @dusky wave Look at a few posts above. (satlen, taye) Maybe they did what you did, but they seem to have posted 3 side by side. Maybe if its saved as a png in Ps itself, it will work.
You could also put more than one image on a single art board and then export the art board as a single image with multiple images side-by-side. But because VDV was working with three separate art boards, I don’t think you can put an art board on another art board.
Photoshop Challenge Day 5: Poster wip
I'm in Seattle so an Orca seemed like a solid choice :3
@dusky wave Are you getting an error about a lack of scratch disk space? Photoshop creates temporary files when working on a document, if the hard drive your scratch disk space is assigned to is nearly full that could cause issues. If that's the case, clearing up space on that hard drive or assigning the scratch disks to be on another drive in Photoshop's Preferences could help.
@young karma Really cool effect on the Orca design! It almost has a sort of reflective/metallic look with all the different shapes. Really strong graphic read to this, nicely done!
@compact pecan This looks great! I really like the balance between the photo and graphic shapes, especially on the Great White image. I like how consistent the images are within this series, it really helps tie them together. Nice work!
@bleak fossil Did you see the comments about posting the 3 artboards from today's exercise into one image
@last mica Great sense of depth with these shapes! The drop shadows really helps sell that 3D look. Nice work with the dolphin shape as well, it has a nice clear read to it. 👍
@bleak fossil - so my machine is a m1 Mac mini with 512 GB HD with 16 ram , so the scratch disk is SSD. Plus I have another ssd I can choose also. What do you think.
@dusky wave Ah, I see. So you have plenty of free space it seems? Are you able to tell me exactly what the error/alert says?
It basically says not enough ram.
@eternal mica Ah yeah, any time you attach 3 images in Discord it will post them one after the other, which will be formatted vertically. There's no way around that, it's just how Discord structures posts. So the best way to do this is to save the art boards as one image. Like Hugh mentioned, the easiest way to do this is by saving a screen shot of your Photoshop document. Or Exporting each image and arranging them into a new single document that basically mimics the layout of the original art boards.
Got it
@bleak fossil it says not enough Memory (ram)
@dusky wave I'll ping you on the #❓ask-a-question section
@forest aspen Really cool effect on the Day 5 design! I love the illustrated look to the background colors and texture, and the way you made the shapes darker as they go "deeper" The design kind of reminds me of one of those kid's book where the cover has a hole in it and that plays into each page in a different way, if that makes sense. Nice design!
@solar creek These are all looking really solid, very nice work! I love how the texture breaks up the rest of the flat shapes in the cover design. Really nice balance of sizes in that design which makes for a great composition. The size variation and balance in the composition of the Beluga image looks really nice too. The dark blue of the background and light color of the top image, text, and whales works really well. I feel like maybe the text and whale on the bottom left could have a bit more space between them to avoid a tangent, but that's a bit of a nitpick. Nice work!

Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
Save it in .PNG and have all 3 in one. Each artboard has its own background in solid color and a wave shape and Post. And one piece of wave shape for all 3 artboards. VooDoo explained the structure of shapes very well.
That is for challenge #08: Instagram Template. I made corrections. I extended the upper shapes sizes in the middle artboard. And change type color color to white. Here I see I should center the middle upper image.

Hi, Pilar ! I like waves shapes very much. Would be perfect if you bent the creatures by puppet wrap sort of give them movement.
Fantastic idea, I will do indeed
Thank you

Thank you so much for the feedback! I definitely struggled with the date text on the cover, it just doesn't really seem to fit anywhere, I will keep tinkering with that.
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
How about type on a path along the lighter teal color in the lower right corner? It seems it could accommodate the type and the dark navy font color would show up well against the textured fill of the shape above it.
Thank you so much for your feedback! Nitpicks are really insight and I greatly appreciate it! It helps me train my creative eye for future work! I will go back and tinker with this a bit, thanks again!
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @bleak fossil
OOOoo that sounds good, thank you for the suggestion, I will give that a try. That could be exactly what I needed, every time I tried to fit the date in the bottom it was disruptive to the waves....I liked my waves and didn't want to break them up or distract from them hahaha

Well thanks to @bleak fossil , fixed my issues & got it to work so here is my completed PS DCC #08 - Instagram Post

Check the kerning of the type on a path in the left artboard. @bleak fossil is the Mega Mentor!!!
Here is my updated version
Much better. I find type on a path to need special attention, especially when using other than block text. Many times I increase the kerning above what straight type needs, sometimes to the point of adding a space between each letter. Your design has a lot of nice elements. When the images were stacked, I didnt visualize the bottom shapes properly. They look much better here. Using the fish brush is a nice touch. The pixelated images are interesting (I used one in my design for this exercise also.) Good job.
HELLO ALL!!!

Day 6: Textures, Gradients & Blending. Stock images are a mix from OceanImageBank, Pixabay and Unsplash.
@quiet ridge Im looking at the artboards stacked so Im not sure Im getting the full effect of your design. I really like the color palette and overall scheme of the design. The multi layered wave seems to blend beautifully from screen to screen. A couple of points: Why make the fish so small in screens 1 & 3? 2. In Screen 1, the text follows the curve of the wave and looks good. In screens 2 & 3, the text goes against the curve. For consistency and for visual effect, you might want to try curving the text to coincide with the wave shape. (The "Know" on screen 3 should be"No")
@novel mica Which exercise is your dolphin for?
Illustrated Creature
could someone help me with a touch-up?
@novel mica The Illustrated Creature design is lovely. It has wonderful light airy childlike feeling to it. The dolphin in midair definitely adds sense of motion. The colors blend beautifully. Good texture for the water. It seems you used a BM on the dolphin and the underlying water layer seems to be showing through. You might want to look at that. And one of the dots from the water texture is hanging out in the middle of the "sky". Really nice job.
thank you for the feed back

For random help with Ps, post your question in ask-a-question tab on the left. This tab is dedicated to the DCC program, which youre more than welcome to participate in.
@dusky swallow This design is so powerful. The BG is terrific. So much so, it draws all the attention away from your creatures. I would consider enhancing the contrast between the BG and the creatures, making the creatures the clear focal point of the design. And I would consider expanding the size of each of the creatures. Serious potential here!!!
@wary swan Stunning IG Template!! The images are awesome, and placed so well in each screen frame. The flow of your waves works beautifully. I love the font. Color palette is right on. If you want to go an extra mile, give the createwave text a bend in screen 2 to match the ellipse shape. Really solid work!!!
@tropic knoll Wow your IG template has excellent images. The wave across the screens is placed perfectly. The water image in the bottom shape is lovely. The font wrorks.
The legibility of the small text could use a bump up in font size, and it seems the screen could handle it. Im not sure if the "black" theme of the screens is why you selected a black fill for the top shapes. I find that the photos sort of run off into that space with no delineation. If that wasnt your intention, I'd try a different fill which would give the photos even more pop. All in all a very strong design.
Changed the Blending mode, I think it is better
Thank you for the feedback,

@normal gale Meagan, can you please explain to us what endangered species of penguin that image is??? 🤣 🤣 🤣
Oh wow, ELECTRIC!!!!!!
@dusky wave Good job with the Animation. Play with where you have the keyframes bringing the creatures into the screen, and the sizes of the creatures. They show up before the water. You can also move the images horizontally on your layer in the traditional way, and the image will be moved in the animation.
@plain sable Your work is always so consistent with the overall DCC series theme you create. What a talent. Your Pixel Art image is very well done. You applied just enough of each filter to effect the image without over doing it. I especially like the shark and the dolphin. The IG template is lovely. Im looking at 3 stacked, so it loses some of the effect, but it does seem to have the flow of the side by side images. The fish would definitely have the sense of motion. I would suggest the middle screen text is too heavy for an IG screen. The screen 3 amount is probably more on the mark.
@hearty quiver Your IG Template is awesome. The screens are each so powerful, definitely eye catching. The inserted images are beautiful. Wave color palette works so well. The one suggestion Id make is the sand texture on top looks a bit out of place for a sea theme. But that may just be my personal preference. Super job.
@forest aspen Your Gradient image has oil painting look to it. Beautiful. The whales float so lightly in the BG you created. One tweak Id suggest is the light is coming from above and the whale's underbelly seems to be the brightest part of the image.
Why it is the Albertan Prairie Penguin of corse. It's one of a kind!!
@normal gale A SUI GENIRIS PRAIRIE PENGUIN!!! Thats Amazing!!! I definitely would have added it to my Pixel Art. It must be difficult during mating season!!!
"1 is the loneliest number" has never felt more true.
@normal gale You gave me laugh out loud moment!!

Hi Satlen something got wrong, have you render your video, I hope you have save your projeckt as psd, so you can get back and redo, you render you video with a click on the bend arrow under the workarea in Timeline.
Hi, Kajrov! You download it into your computer and watch. I do not understand where is "bend arrow". Somebody here has the same problem.
Insta layout challenge, sorry it's a little late. Took a bit.
I don't know how to make them side by side maybe I'll screenshot and upload again, sorry.
This works better, I think.
A little disappointed in Adobe, I bought a new Macbook Pro in order to work specifically with Adobe programs and after half an hour of trying to get timeline animations to work, I read it is not compatible with the M1 processor, so I guess I won't be joining the final challenge, but here is all of the things I was going to animate. If anyone knows a workaround that would be great.
1 = bend arrow klick on this and you get Render dialog. You need only 2 = vhere to save, 3= Start rendering to get a MP4 file that you can post on Discord. OBS!! Don't forget to save you work as a photoshop file psd, before you render. Hope this will help

Solid tweaks. I think its much improved. What do you think?
@young karma Dont worry, you have two weeks to catch up before we go to the next series. Your Poster Design is right on. You captured the effect VDV demonstrated. Your layers, shadow, glow in the teal areas of the orca are well done. Why did you leave out the teal fin on the left of the whale? I cant tell whether you did anything in the dark blue area. The color is too dark.
You mean for export as one image?
Like the starter file Val made for everyone to use
The Artboard is underneath the selection tool. Click on it to create an artbord. Then click the + sign for where you want to add additional artbords
@young karma Very well done Poster Design. I cant tell if you added a shadow to the outer edge of the turtle, but the ones you added to the inner layers work very well. The additional images you added increase the interest in the design. Your Gradients design is also well done. Im not sure what you tried to alter the direction of the fish. If you give us more info, maybe we can help you out. I really like your pixel art. Did you use the same filter on all the creatures? All of your designs so far for this series have a nice consistency and cohesive look. I believe they will look great together if you produce a Behance portfolio.
Thank you Ted B
@tidal fjord Cool Animated Sea Life. The shadow birds is an interesting interpretation of the challenge. Im not sure what the gray wave shadow is on the sand at the end of your animation.
@hearty quiver Good job with the Animated Sea Life. The objects you added flow nicely. You handled all the elements well. Good work.
@young karma I like the interest the multiple brushes creates with your Gradients challenge. The shapes and colors are interesting.
@muted quail Your Color & Depth design is a cool interpretation. The textures you used throughout work really nicely. The red/blue color palette is interesting for this design. One tweak Id make is to increase the font size of the text. The canvas can surely handle a larger more legible font. Your work with the Pixel Art is well done. Im not sure the white outline enhances the effect of the design. Id love to see it without that. Did you use the same filter on each design? Your Animated Sea Life is right on. Everything flows really nicely. One tiny nit pick Id make is to have the ray on the right have a lower opacity just like the others. It doesnt make "sense" for it to be "above" the water.
@rancid vapor I think your artboard is really interesting. Its a bit busy, but theres a lot of great content in it. I believe when you have so many distaractions, its hard to focus on the elements youre trying to present. E.G. in the images panel, it might work better to just show the creatures youre presenting, without all the BG elements. Your presentation of the colors, fonts, fonts, textures is wonderful. In the textures panel, I would make the blurred out edge consistent across all the textures. Your InfoPromo is a strong design. The color palette works. The images you added are well placed and interesting. I would tweak the text in the design. The facts in the upper right could be more legible. The text is a bit too small and the font a bit too thin. The teal main text might benefit form a thin stroke in maybe black or white, and, if you do that, it might need a slight increase in the kerning.
@warm mauve Beautiful effort on the IG Template design. The screens flow so seamlessly. The color palette is really interesting. The whale images are just right. One tweak I would suggest is increasing the font size taking into account its going to appear on a phone screen.
@young karma Happy you decided to post designs. Both of your efforts for the Poster Design challenge are right on. You captured the look and technique that VDV exhibited. The added elements increase interest. I really like the whale tail. I was wondering if it might be enhanced with more contrast between it and the BG. Right now, the blue bubbles are more the focal point of the design than the tail.
A bit clunky, but still cute for a first.
@copper moss Awesome Animated Sea Life. There is a lot of detail work that goes into creating all that motion in a short animation. Kudos to you.
Thanks for your comments and suggestions, will definitely work on improving my skills. Umr

Your skills are doing fine!!!
@young karma Turtles, turtles, turtles everywhere!! Both of your designs are very well done. Your InfoPromo has a soft elegant look to it. The fonts you selected are just right for the design. The image is placed in an interesting fashion. And much the same can be said about your Illustrated Creature. It has an easy childlike simplicity. The BG is soft and subtle. Very well done.
@wary swan Really awesome Animated Sea Life. You really went all in on this one, as you usually do. I would make one tweak. I would hold the project by kajrov until the wave covers it and delay the appearance of the credit VooDooVal text until the waves falls back for the second time.
@wise lantern Awesome IG design. Beautiful images and color palette, informative, flows seamlessly from screen to screen. With your Adobe issue, I suggest you post the problem in ask-a-question tab. If that doesnt solve it, contact Adobe tech support.
@glacial minnow Very nice job on the poster design. The overall look of the design is really beautiful. I think the outer lighter colored layers show the shadow effect , the inner darker layers not as much. The added designs give the image a cool underwater feel. The BG is very well done.
@tropic garnet Good job with the InfoPromo. The color scheme is very interesting. The way you positioned the image is well done. The text is legible and informative. I would point out, there are quite a few typos you might want to correct.
@wise lantern It was worth the extra effort. Happy you found a work around. It looks like the last 1 second might not be playing. I got the sense you wanted the waves to roll back, but thats not happening. Very cute concept, very well done.

I’m fairly sure it was a glitch with a lag with my CC. I usually export with then hot lkey and rename the file something different. My CC is showing the right one (I replaced the original with the nee version, so the old one shouldn’t even exist) but when I was uploading it the old one was what it was uploading.
That is for the animation challenge #09. Hi, Kajrov! I can render only via Export/Render/MP in my Ps version. Download this animation to see on your device, from the download button at the right bottom. Question was how will I rotate extremities as if the turtle moving legs? Is there any idea?
Thanks! But how will I rotate extremities as if the turtle moving legs? Is there any idea? You did not read my question. You say it an "Awesome Animated Sea Life".
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
Try this: create a few layers of the turtle image; use the Puppet Warp tool to alter the position of the legs on each layer; hide/ unhide each layer via opacity along the timeline
Great work Satlen, what Ps version do you have?
I made change to my challenge day 2 can you see the different?😄
This 100% is the fixed version. I had to export it from my CC and not photoshop to get the right version. So weird. I’ve never had that issue before.
As far as Ps I do not exactly remember quite sure but older I will check. Ps is new Lenovo 2020 windows10 professional with 8 Gb ram. Old vaio crashed. I think there should be installed QuickTime if I remember. With it you can open straightly ready Mp4 in Ps and use on your animation. I struggled with it. Because it was not supported any more or something. Now I remember before I had the same way of rendering with this arrow button on bottom and it has many good configuration options. Kajrow, very good you started this subject of rendering and nice to keep other alternatives to solve. Maybe in newer versions there are not such problems. But to buy all Ai, Ps, Ae and other software is very expensive. Thank, you!

Very well organized work. See here all layer effects, gradient types and shapes of the design. Clear to grasp. Just needed to align numbers on the left for the whole beauty.
Thanks for your review, this was one project I was not sure if I was doing it right. Regarding aligning the numbers I just could not find the align tool in my photoshop - maybe you can help. Thanks umr
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @copper moss
@hearty quiver If all your numbers are on one layer, you can use the rectangle tool to select them in the space you want them to be, then select the move tool. The align bar will appear in your top ribbon. select the alignment you want, L, C, R. Deselect the rectangle.
If they are in separate layers select layers with numbers then CTRL+A select artboard (ants marching) and click on one align button (seen on the control panel small rectangle symbols) with Align Left Edges. That is first step. After that you will do more sophisticated align, which is not so close to the border. Because you should align numbers with the shapes as well on the same artboard.
Thanks. it worked . I will upload the updated version

thank you! yes, I used the crystallize effect on each design. I'll try them without the outline.

Excellent jellyfish and dolphin illustration with Ocean themed colors and textures. Latin names would be suitable for a college marine biology class. Dolphins like these are very common along the coast south of me Pensacola Florida, Johnson Beach and Orange Beach in Alabama, and Biloxi /Gulfport in Misssissppi. We see them playing in the waves close to shore every time we visit the beach. I see jellyfish and sea turtles when looking down in the water from a pier.
Challenge 5 , 2nd time ever with illustrations, feed back /criticism is welcome
I'm new here - both to Photoshop and the challenge! 😀 I'm pretty far behind, but here are a couple of informational promos I created for day 2.
Here's a whale shark infographic for day 2!
@eternal mica Perhaps this looks better for the gradient challenge?
Great!
Is there an easy way to slow down a video timeline on Photoshop? I don't want to move everything individually because i have the timing of my items set up the way i want. It's just too fast. thanks in advance.
Had a lot of fun with challenge #9 made two
@worn venture I played around with the frame rate
You can get to it with the menu in the upper right of the timeline
@plain sable my video broadcast brain screams about that. lol 30 frames per second is video industry standard. I'll try it though
If anyone knows a better way please advise 🙂
i think i might just have to adjust everything manually and remember to check that first. It is a little difficult because my pc is slow at the beginning lol
Day 8- Instagram template
Day #7 - Pixel Art - Mosaic
@dark grail Your revised Day 2 is well done. The highlight/shading you added to the creatures looks good. I would make a suggestion that you create more contrast for the title texts, especially jellyfish, which is lost in the blob background. And on your body texts, decrease the stroke/drop shadow to give the text more room to breathe. The effect you have has some of the letters overlapping.
@hearty quiver Very cool idea to present your Illustrated Creature this way. And a very crisp cool clean design. Your waves at the bottom is a nice way to add color and contrast to the design. Your text selection is very interesting.
@glossy oar You did a nice job with the Poster Design. The layers have nice depth from the shadows and glow effects. The color gradations work well. Why leave so much blank space on your canvas?
Thank you @eternal mica! When I read your note, I was inspired to try something new. I will attempt your suggestions and repost! Your insights are very helpful!
@eternal mica thank you for your comments. For the gradients, I wanted to make the fish change direction but it looked nasty. That's why I let them all in the same direction. I tried to play with the jitters and other parameters. For the pixel art i effectively used the same filter but changed the strength.

I think its much better. What do you think?
@wintry blaze Welcome to Ps and to the DCC Discord group. If you nee help with anything, just ask. We're here to help. You have plenty of time to work on this series of challenges. The next series wont start for 2 weeks. Did you watch the Welcome stream? You can find a link to it in the pinned messages in the upper right corner of the screen. Just scroll down a bit. Its clearly labeled. Your interpretation of the challenge is fun. The color palettes work well. Theres nice cohesion to each design. I think a consistent text color would look better than the cyan you added, but that may be personal preference.
@plain sable Very good work on the Animated Sea Life. Your design has a lot of moving elements. That makes animating that much more tedious. Good job.
@dusky swallow Very solid job on the IG template. The layout of the screens flows beautifully from screen to screen. The color palette is lovely. The text reads well. One tiny nit pick Id make is to center the text on a path more evenly. Very good job.
agree 👍 😀 , thank you
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
@glacial minnow Nice work for Designs 7 & 8. Youve maintained a pretty cohesive color palette through all the challenges, and kept it going for these two. On the Pixel Art I might suggest creating more contrast for the seahorse against the BG. The flow of your IG template from screen to screen is seamless. Well done. I think the image on the bottom left screen might work better if you had an image with an upward arc to mirror your wave shape, rather than the downward one.
Uploading Challenge 6 . I really do not know how to add a feeling of feeding frenzy UMR

Day 7: Pixel/filtered art. The images are from AdobeStock and Pixabay. I used primarily the half tone filters, and gave the last couple of layers (different blend Modes) the frosted glass filter.
Day 4: Color and Depth. Made one change that I almost forgot and now re-uploading. This is in the same fashion as my others, giving otterly infographic informations. Most of the creatures were purchased from Adobe stock so that I could focus on the textures and gradients.
@hearty quiver Somehow, that wide open shark's mouth definitely feels like "feeding time", LOL. Very nice design for the Gradients challenge. The BG gradient adds a cool sense of depth to the image. I think the design of the fish for your brush could use more definition, and if that were done, then you could use the brush settings, to vary the stroke scale to create more sense of depth and motion to the image by moving in a circular motion around the shark.
@glacial minnow Your Animated Sea Life is cool. The leaping dolphin is a neat effect.
I think this has a much more balanced cohesive look. What do you think?
Day 8: Instagram Story. Images and textures from OceanImages, AdobeStock, Pixabay and Graphic Authority
@dark grail Its always interesting to see how a design evolves. Seeing the 3 posts you made of your evolving Illustrated Creature image is great. And I must say, the 3rd version is, in my opinion, the best!! And yes, the contrast makes a big difference here also!! Your water BG layer looks terrific. Really well done.
Thanks for your comments, regarding the fish brush, is there anything I can do so the fish will follow the direction of my brush stroke, currently if i draw a circle the fish do not follow the circle path . This makes it look Unnatural - umr

@dusky swallow Your Behance portfolio is beautiful. The cohesiveness of the colors throughout is excellent. Your final image, which was not posted here, is super. Thank you for posting. One point Im not sure youre aware of, in Behance, you can minimize the images a little bit by clicking the upper the right corner of an image. I think all of the images are easier to view in the smaller size. Did you apply that to your images?
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @dusky swallow
In Brush Settings under Angle Jitter click the Control drop down menu. You can select your direction there. If you click Initial Direction, it will maintain one direction. If you click Direction, it will change with the direction your brush stroke moves in.
Thank you Ted, I forgot to shrink the images, I liked your behance too
Gave +1 Creative Carma to @eternal mica
@forest aspen Beautiful piece of Pixel Art. Applying the pixel effects to the entire image as you did is really effective. Especially with you leaving the text normal for contrast. Did you apply half tones to all of the objects except the BG? The colors throughout the design work beautifully together. Terrific effort.
@void hornet Your designs are Otterly consistent. Tying in the otter theme and your previous color palettes to the design is a really good job by you. You created a nice sense of motion in the design with the varying ways you depicted the water/bubbles/creatures. Well done.
@forest aspen I wasnt aware an IG screen could be displayed the way you have it. Great job. Very creative presentation. Except for the lower half of the separation on the right screen, the screens mesh seamlessly. The unifying curve of the waves works very well. Very well done.
Thanks, it works

Hello. Here's my challenge #8 Instagram Template.
And finaly, here is my challenge #9 Animated Sea Life.
https://www.behance.net/gallery/125072729/CreateWaves-Photoshop-DCC For my first Photoshop DCC, I had a blast. Thanks to all.
During the DCC, VDV spoke about developing a Case Study about ocean sustainability in conjunction with the Adobe/UN #createwaves initiative. I had never done a case study, so I figured I'd try one. This is my effort. Im probably going to submit it to the Adobe/UN program. Let me know what you all think.
hi all, heres my take on challenge 4
Hello! Finally found some time to participate. Here is my cover. All constructive feedback welcome.
Challenge#4 Informational Promo
Challenge 9 - Animations Aug 6th challenge
Question: The was suppose to be a darker blue wave but when I would try to animate like the other four, it wouldn't hold its position at each spots, same with the opacity of the shells at the end. I'm not really sure what I was doing different that made it work on the words and other wave lines. But For some reason I couldn't get the wave five or shells to animate properly and the layers wouldn't let me rasterized (SP?) it and turn it into a smart object like @jolly quest had done in her how to video. I tried saving and reopening it and it still wouldn't let me animate it.
like how at the bottom you can see where the sea floor would be but then you blurred it out as if the octopus are moving the sand so it is all messy like it would normally be.
Thanks @dull lava

Love your creativity on this one. You made it all stand out and the colors are so realistic. You made it look really professional.
Hi, I have been watching these challenges over a year, but this is the first time I uploaded anything. I hope I did this right.
Hey this is a great idea! I am a teacher and this would be a great format to use with my students!

Okay, got to the Day 1. All feedback welcome. Thanks!
@young karma Nice series of posts. Your IG template is clean crisp and clear, with a nice flow from screen to screen. Using the past challenge images was a good idea. I think there might be too much text to see on a phone screen. You might cut it down a bit. Your Animated Sea Life is right on. I like the blank screen at first and the create waves showing up as the wave recedes. Your Behance portfolio is really well done. It has a beautiful consistency and flow. The blob shapes as BG make for an interesting scroll through. Im sure you didnt intend it, but the challenge #2 screen is repeated twice.
@winter root Clean sharp presentation of the Color & depth challenge. The texture you added to the "land" adds interest. What would you say to adding some texture or some creatures to the "water" to add interest to the design?
thank you ted! yeah i was actually thinking about doing that at a later date

@simple idol Great that youve found time to start the series. Based on the reactions to date, you should be in for a fun time. Your cover image is well done. The yellow fish adds a nice contrast to all the blue tones in the rest of the design. The 2 fonts add interest. The way youve laid out your mood board is really cool. I like the consistency of all the blue shades. One tweak Id make is to give a bit of space between the images in your Image panel as you did in the Texture panel. Because theyre similar to each other, its a bit hard to see that theyre really 3 images.
@obtuse cobalt Really fun bright child-like feel to your Color & Depth challenge. The wavy shapes give a nice sense of motion. The creatures add interest. And the purple
'land" is a cool idea. One tweak id suggest is to increase the contrast between the bottom two layers of your ocean. Theyre a bit too similar.
@dull lava I apologize, Im not understanding what your problem with the animation. Perhaps post the issue in the ask-a-question tab? Your animation looks good. If you get your issue straightened out, repost here, and I'll review it.
@eternal mica Thank you so much! I was struggling with the spacing with the images so, I think I have my answer! I will space them out! I appreciate you taking the time to give me feedback!🥰

@bright quail You've been watching for a year and youve first decided to post??? Thats amazing. So happy you took the plunge. Please let us know if you need help finding your way around. This space is a safe friendly way for you to post your work. There's no pressure, very few rules. I hope youre encouraged to post more. Your cover image is well done. The colors all work well. The waves you created flow nicely. The shadow images in the water and the 2 fonts you used add interest. One tweak I'd suggest is to play with the shade of the green wave below the whale image. Theres not enough contrast between the two and its hard to see what is the wave and what is the whale.
Ugh, for me "a later date" never comes. 😊 😊
Thats awesome. What grade do you teach? Please feel free to use it. If youd like me send the file, Id be happy to.
lol
@plain sable Your Behance is so elegant. I knew all along as you were posting where you headed. It really came out beautiful. One tweak, you have labels for the first few designs, but not the last few. I always appreciate seeing a label for each item in Behance. I believe it is important for the non DCC viewer of your project.
Thanks @eternal mica I was lazy with the last few titles 🙂

@plain sable WHAAATTTT?? You lazy???? Who is on the other end of this text??? 🤣 🤣 🤣
Totally agree, Thanks

Started with the silhouette outline of a powder blue tang fish, breaking down into an outline into different colored regions with their own layer, filled with a solid color, then applying colorful gradients for the head, side, upper and lower fins, tail and body, I created "Powdered Blue Gradient Tang Fish". Next I created a school of these of various sizes and puppet warps applying a color overlay the color of the water with opacity adjusted to give a distance effect, lighter closer in, darker and murkier further out. Used a radial gradient on the background to simulate a bright region where sun penetrates the ocean above in the distance. Added some bubbles, outlines of coral with a coral bush preset, and lighter greenish background, and vague murky bottom features in the distance, and more fish in the distance above.
This is beautiful, well done
@young junco Your attention to detail merged with your creativity is incredible. You put so much into every design. Awesome. This image has a real underwater feel. One question I have for you. If the white gradient is sun above, how does that jive with the perspective of the other elements in the design? Shouldnt it be coming from the top?
@eternal mica I updated my titles 🙂
@young junco you could make the gradient bigger and move it to the top moving the center of the gradient to the top edge, making it kinda v shaped
Create Waves Cover
No worries. I was going to just do it step by step from the beginning now that I know what I am doing and see if it still wigs out on me or if maybe I just was not doing it correctly when I did that final wave.
Mood Board - LOVING this challenge so far. Working from Ventura Beach this week, so very inspired🌊 🌊 🌊 🌊
I removed the radial gradient background as suggested and substituted a gradient effect using a large soft brush with low opacity with colors slightly different than the background to fill in the space.
Thanks all for the comments and suggestions.

I need to practice more on the sunlight from above in a future work.
Here is my updated Moodboard. Thanks @eternal mica, for the feedback!

If you look into the asset files Adobe set up in the createwaves library, there are a few shots of sunlight coming from the top that would be good examples to build off of
ooooh, I like it a lot better!!!! Beautiful
