Hi @grave frigate Sometimes only blue will do — especially for people who "draw" like I do. 🤪

Just going into Sophia`s vibe, i did the vector at illustrator and added some shadows in photoshop. I just used the Christmas version of this so famous Portuguese Barcelos Rooster for a job festive card.

@hearty wharf your bow is beyond fancy. Sparkles make me happy. I'm in the no dog club as well.

@honest gorge OMG! Amazing! That's really good Carla, really. My only suggestion would be to tighten up the kerning on the text, especially where the e meets the r's, unless you like it like that.

Day 1 Put some shadows in there to add some depth. This a a picture "filtered" to stained glass and then filled with different colors. Fun and mesmerizing.

@deep mango Too cute!

@short phoenix Really love the colors in this.

Day 2 Kind of rough but I tried the locked pixels and shading.

high wharf
#

@grave frigate The final version (NEVER!) with added selective color adjustment layer for the warmth and coolness, re-positioned key, some mushrooms, The Cheshire cat, a heart in the title, some glittery things, and finally, some water color texture on the upside down flower. Thanks again for the feedback, yesterday this did not exist 🥳 now it is time to force my cat into a Santa hat or something for today's challenge.

bleak fossil
#

@lusty turret Very cool! Definitely getting a strong stained glass feeling from this one. The bright colors and variation in tone between them really helps that effect. The snow and texture are a great touch too!

#

@kindred kernel Nice work Gerard! The bow makes it look like a post card or something. It's a small nitpick but I notice there's a little bit of artifacting on the edges of the bow from where it was cut out, possibly from a white background. I often find when selecting an object, using Select->Modify->expand or contrast to fine tune the selection by a couple pixels inward can really help with a clean selection. Nice work with the bow's drop shadow too!

#

@fast moth Really nice Camilo! The bow and stripes are looking good! It seems like you might have a somewhat soft edge on the bow? I think the soft edge works great on the shadow effect but it might help to keep the edges on the bow itself hard and crisp. Just a thought. Looks good!

#

@blazing quail Very cool, this looks good! The pattern you added to the bow looks great. The masking around the dog looks really nice too, and fur/hair can be tough to get a convincing selection on, well done! One suggestion would be to maybe ease off on the depth of field blur on the ground around the dogs feet just a bit. The ground right in front of the dog's feet are crisp, but the ground right next it to it is out of focus which makes them not quite fit together. Also doing a levels adjustment to brighten the image a bit to fit a bit closer to the bright bow might help balance the image a bit more. Great work!

#

@dim brook Very nice CeCi! Very festive looking! Really nice work with the background pattern and masking of the dogs. One small suggestion is blurring the cast shadow of the bow just a touch might help sell the effect a bit more. Nice work 😄

#

@pulsar walrus Very cool! Really great concept on this one! One small suggestion would be it could be a nice look to make the black silhouette of the birds a fairly desaturated blue or green tone to fit it in with the style and feel of the rest of the image and not draw quite as much contrast. Might unify the image a bit more. Looks good!

#

@prisma crown Wow, this is really impressive! All those shapes for the cats fur work really well and are very nicely designed in the way you made the shapes and lines go with the direction of the fur. Great color palette and shapes to the whole image. Very nicely done!

#

@wicked nexus Welcome back Dama! This is looking great! I really like the clean contrast between the sky, clouds, and moon, but with still a lot of color variation between each section. The yellow moon really makes for a nice focal point as well. Really cool stained glass effect with the one. Really nice job!

#

@young karma Nice work Mina! I'm really liking the colors of the bow. The cast shadow is looking solid as well!

#

@frail knot Ooh, great idea! Really love the way you used color for this design to draw attention to the birds! The symmetry of the shapes work really nice, and the mock up is really well done! The perspective reads really convincingly. Looks great!

#

I'm a total rookie just trying to learn. How do I get the good graphics? The starter files I downloaded are watermarked and very lo-res.

high wharf
#

@vast fox you have to click the direct download in the top right-hand corner to get the file. The pictures will be much better resolution, but wii still have the watermarks.

hearty wharf
#

@high wharf oh that's a great coincidence! well done

vast fox
#

I did that. But that is what I found in my downloads folder. Lo-res and watermarked. I just quit watching since I couldn't really do anything with that. Same for Day2 starter files.

neat flax
#

In the video Anna was using her own file that she made. The tree in the folder belongs to Adobe so it's watermarked. Try using a free stock website instead. There are plenty of other vector trees online on many free stock vector sites. \

#

At least that's what I am doing. =/

north nova
#

So you just use the tree in the 5x7 while using tramsforming/blurring/etc? So we can make anything with those two items? lol (I'm very new to these challenges.)

vast fox
#

Ah, okay. I guess I wished they had said, "go out and find you a tree before we start". Or, a dog. Or, a bow.

high wharf
#

@vast fox She did. She said use your own pictures or the download files.

vast fox

Did she? Okay. I got on about 3min into the presentation. I missed that. Oh well. I'm going back to both anyway. I'll be prepared with better materials.

Challenge Day #3: So, shadow boxes have depth right? I wasn't sure how far you could take the depth in a shadow box but I thought it would be cool to test how much depth I can put into it. I've never tried giving anything depth before. I used a few PS brushes and I added a drop shadow to basically everything. Of course, Gaussian blur was used quite often as well. Thoughts?

@sturdy flare I haven't gotten any feedback yet actually! So I've been a bit nervous "if I'm doing it right." LOL Thank you so much for the feedback! I wasn't sure what was too much so I just stopped, but I agree. More trees would be nice. Thank you so much! That's really nice @plain sable ! I love the color contrast, and the overall symmetry. It would be nice to see a bit of wind effect though, perhaps the red balls could be swinging a bit, or the snow could blow a certain direction.

#

it would go along with the windblown text

neat flax
#

@loud zephyr is that a.....Blades of Glory quote?

glacial path
#

@plain sable great job 😄 - I always ask for softer drop shadows but those look perfect just the way they are 🙂 . Well, apart from this one right here 😛

#

I would just be careful with the font. Some of the lines are super thin, so I wouldn't place them in front of a busy background 🙂

#

@worn condor Awww, how cute is that (your 😮 ?) dog! I think the colors of the stripes work well with the red. The whole bow looks very soft though. I would perhaps decrease the hardness of the brush to about 95-100% to reduce the softness. Unfortunately you would have to redraw the ribbon. The shape of the ribbon is very natural and the drop shadow integrates nicely with the image underneath.

forest aspen
#

Day 1: I forgot to post this on Tuesday. I see, now that I post, that I should have clicked fill a few more times in the red areas. Ouch. I've given a bit of 3D look to these circles by adding an inner shadow and a centered inner glow that show better on the darker colors. I can see that this might be an exercise that will need to be done more than once. #PSDailyChallenge

glacial path
#

@hearty wharf Those trees are beautiful and the sparkles are a really great touch. I wonder, have you placed them by hand or have you imported them all at once? Regarding the colors, I like how you have used mostly warm colors - usually, when you think of winter, colder colors come to mind. But instead you have used a warm yellow color for the sun and an overall warm color wash (in combination with the paper texture) and it totally works 🙂 . There is however a strange shadow behind the grass on the left. Possibly because of a hidden shape behind the border.

#

@forest aspen haha yeah, even when you click multiple times, it can be tough to fill in every last pixel using the paint bucket tool 😅 , I think everyone had the same problem. I think the reflection is a really great touch but I wouldn't limit it to just one per sphere!

forest aspen
#

Day 2: A day late, but hopefully not a dollar short. Layer masking, blend modes, and recoloring were all included in this composite postcard. The originally pink couch with white bulldog is from Adobe Stock, while the bow and tree are from Pixabay.#PSDailyChallenge

glacial path
#

@forest aspen you could add one or two more reflections to simulate the specular highlights of a real sphere

#

only if you have the time of course 😉

limber birch
grave frigate
#

@glossy dove I love how soft and aethreal it feels! I might make the final point a bit bigger just for a slightly clearer read, she's beautiful and needs to shine!I might put her slightly off center as well, it would as nice contrast to the symmetry of the trees. I also love how you blended the bottom of the trees into the ground, great job!

#

@magic whale First time with a tablet?!? Great job!! My first drawing was a blob. Those trees are looking great, the overlap sells the cutout paper look. I'd spend a little time finessing the lettering- I often use a font and draw over it to add a hand drawn quality. Great use of texture on the border, it makes it feel kind of snowy!

#

Day 3 with a little sparkle. Did you read Classic Blue is the color of the year?

bleak fossil
#

@bold valley Nice work Ralph! Locking the pixels can definitely help with that kind of thing, very useful tool. I like it! I think maybe you could even add a little shading to the ribbon's loops, and where the loop overlaps the other ribbon. I often use a lasso tool to make a selection along with an airbrush to do it in a clean and controlled way. Maybe something like this? Really nice work :D
Edit: Day 1 looks great too! Really interesting visual effects with the patterns.

#

@pulsar sparrow Nice work Asmaa! The bow looks good and I like how you played around with some depth by overlapping the parrot wing. My only suggestion is maybe that you could readjust the text to perhaps be a bit smaller and maybe even more level. I think even letting it overlap or be overlapped by the bow would be fine, right now it seems a bit crammed in the open space. But I think it might work as a smaller element which might balance it well with the sizes of the other objects. Also a side note that “Merry” is missing the second “r”. Really good job on this, the border looks nice too!

#

@fathom moon Aw, I like the feeling of this image. I really like how the red in this image is the most eye catching color. It ties it all together nicely. There's a nice composition and visual balance to the whole image too!

#

@magic rampart Looks good! I like how you changed it up and went with a different design for the center, it makes for a nice focal point. The mockup looks solid too! It could be nice to try separating the center shape via value a bit more just to strengthen the silhouette. Making the center shaper a bit darker or lighter than the shape behind it might give it a bit more punch. Looks good!

@edgy idol Very cool! I love the flowy lines and sort of lacy intricate shapes within the fish's fins. The whole thing has a very soft calm feel to it. Very nice!

#

@nova swan Nice clean simple design, very nice! I like the weight variation between the snowflake and text. The drop shadow is a subtle but effective effect as well, nice work!

#

@hidden pendant Hah, very cute. Nice work with the soft cast shadow on the ornaments! I think you could even brighten this image up a bit more with a levels adjustment to have the photo better match the bright look and feel of the ornaments and text. Nice work Trish!

#

@short mica Ooh, very nice, tablets definitely make life easier with anything hand drawn/painted. Nice work on the ribbon and drop shadows! Did you use a multiply or burn effect for the shadow on the ribbon? I find using a light, desaturated blue/red tone with an airbrush allows me to get even/consistent shadows across objects without it going too dark. Looking good, nice work!

@blazing quail Very nice! I like how the colors match together quite a bit too. The changes looks good!

@ruby panther Nice job Shawn! The ribbons are looking good and almost appear as if they're catching light from the street lights below. Nice work!

#

@pulsar sparrow The Day 1 challenge is looking good! I really like the rosey glass look of the reds. The heart is a nice touch too. It could look good to brighten the heart up a bit, or even make it white to give the image a nice strong focal point. Nice work!

#

@granite carbon Really nice job! I really like the illustrated elements against the photo background. It's a really nice balance of styles. The blurred background works really well to make the birds pop too!

#

@keen granite Very cool! Really nice paper cutout feel with this, and I like what you did with the shapes in the trunk of the tree! The owl is a great element as is, but it would be really cool to see what it looks like with the same paper cutout effect. Great style to this image!

#

@plain sable Very nice work! I really like the design you created for the trees and bushes. Has a really interesting feel to it. I also like the depth you created with the various layers and variation in the tree size. Looks good!

#

@blazing quail Ooh, those trees work really well, and the shadows give them a great look. The ornaments are a great touch too, and I like how the color in the sky provides a bit of balance for the color of the ornaments. It could be interesting to see a little shadow on the ornaments too. Maybe at their feet or even behind them like the trees have, which might give it more of a flat effect. Looks really good Ant!

#

@manic void Looking good! I really love the addition of the blue background. It gives the white shapes a really nice contrast. The shadows are really done well also, and that textured effect really adds to that paper cut feel. Very nicely done!

#

@magic whale Very cool! Drawing tablets take a little getting used to by can definitely make life a lot easier. I really like the texture of this! It still reads as a paper cut out type of effect due to the shadows, but the texture adds an interesting quality to it. Looks good!

#

@neat flax Ooh, I like some of the texture you got going there for the Day 3 challenge. Yeah, shadow boxes have depth in terms of layers throughout the box. I think a key to getting that effect is having those crisp edges with various objects overlapping and some size variation to give a sense of depth. I think the blur/soft shadow works well as a cast shadow effect for each object, but I think keeping the edges on each object sharp helps a lot. Nice work!

#

@glossy dove This is a really cool effect! I like how the blue in the scene contrasts so strongly with what appears to be a more yellow/warm white. The designs and intricacies of the trees look great too! My only suggestion would be to maybe increase the darkness of the shadows of the trees on the white inside area of the image. They have a nice sharp contrast against the blue, but it would be nice to increase that contrasting look against the white background just a touch. Very nice work!

#

@floral gorge Ooh, this looks really nice! Organization once the layers start adding up definitely helps, hah. The shapes created by the trees has a really interesting feel, and the shadows look great too. I like the masking you did as well with the golden line. Well done!

@hybrid yacht nothing wrong with how it's drawn. People make it their living drawing for kids books which many times means drawing like a kid. The art style all works together. This was my first project using a tablet too, and I'm more a photographer than artist. So if you were stretched then the results don't matter as much. My one suggestion would be to play with the shadows more. I think they are too hard. Trying playing with the gaussian blur more. Or try taking the opacity down.

@neat shale Ooh, very cool. I think both look really nice, the texture and shadow give it a really great paper cut out appearance, nicely done. I think it depends on what it would be used for. Both could make for a nice card with a different feel depending on what you're going for. The white one seems a lot more delicate and soft, and the colors of the first are a lot more bold and playful. That said, it could be interesting to see a version with less bold, more soft pastel type colors. Looks good!

Day 3, finally. I made the trees with the render trees filter, because I didn't find any that I liked better. Drawing is difficult for me as my right hand is quite shaky. The frame has several effects: bevel & Emboss, drop shadow, and Outer glow with a dark color and multiply blend mode. I didn't use much blur, as it filled in too much of the maple tree with solid color.

#

Day 4 - The base image of the horses drawing a sleigh if from Unsplash. The snowflakes were extracted from a winter project publish in the Epson Creative Zone many years ago. I was so sad when they changed their website and didn't include the Zone. The Font is Luminari. The snow flakes are both below and above (with soft light blend) the text, which is at about 85% opacity to better let the flakes show.

@tacit condor what an amazing job! I love that you went all the way to mocking the card! Also love the rabbit 😍 🐇 well done 👌

#

@forest aspen it's completely fine to use the trees available! have used the emboss on the tree also ? if so try one version with no emboss and only the blur and see which one you like the best. If not which effect have you used? Sometimes one single filter really enhances the silhouette in a neat way. I love the cyan color very wintery! also the frame looks great! 💙 🥰

@unkempt field your challenge 3 is looking beautiful 👏 love the mock up with the shadow and the frame. the only suggestion I would have is to add some contrast in the text by either thickening the font a bit or maybe use a darker color to make it stand out. @keen granite Oooooo nice GlowWorm. Bringing me back to Christmas 1987 or something. Love it. Yes, brighten it up, and add some inner glow, maybe even a soft light source directly behind it to make it pop out from the background. Looks great.

#

@hidden pendant I can't imagine Xmas without snow. I like both versions, the less colourful one makes me more happy though. The colour of the text though is a little hard to read, it's a bit busy with the overlay pattern (?) and grass in front. What if you moved the tree down to the grass and increased the size, and then put the text as an arch over the koala? My thoughts.

#

@magic hedge Love what you did the trees in the background and the glow behind the foreground layer 🙂 . Because of the high contrast and the non-standard font, the text becomes tough to read, especially when looking at it in full screen mode. I would suggest moving it to a less contrast-heavy area to increase legibility 👍

#

@magic hedge Nice work with the yellow frame, it absolutely works and ties the whole composition together 😄

#

@tacit condor I just have one tip that's actually unrelated to the design itself because I think you have absolutely aced that! Using a mockup to present your work helps to convey how the design would actually look in a real world application. Transforming it like this to match the perspective is the most important step, but you also shouldn't forget about the texture of the actual object. This looks like a paper postcard, so the paper texture should show through 🙂 . If the original mockup file actually has an empty postcard, you can simply change the blend mode of your design to "multiply" and call it a day. If it isn't empty, you would have to find a paper texture online, warp it to match the perspective and use the blend mode "multiply" to apply the texture. I know this might seem like a tiny detail but I promise it totally will help to properly present your work and raise it to the next level. Even the best design would look awful if the presentation is bad (not saying your presentation is bad by the way 😉 ).

#

some of the mockup psd's where you just drag & drop your design often already have this as a built-in part of the layer structure. You also don't have to worry about that when using Adobe Dimension to mock up your work 🙂

#

@ornate walrus Lovely! The yellow in the first submission really goes well with the deep red in the background. My only suggestion would be to smooth out the bow tie. You can use the smoothing feature in Photoshop to draw smoother lines 🙂 It can also help to reduce the spacing of the brush if the lines look too bumpy

magic hedge
#

Here is an updated readable version. Since I can't really move text too much without ruining the alignment with the center of the background image, I brought up the color of the glow instead.

glacial path
#

@ornate walrus I love the cool colors of the the stained glass from the first challenge submission 😄 ! The font placement is very natural and much more fun than just using centering it. I would perhaps add a glow to simulate light falling through the glass panes.

#

@magic hedge yup, that also works 😄

#

@neat shale Great use of the color theme, the cyan really glows in front of the red. Perhaps almost too much if you're looking at it on a bright screen 😄 . To mitigate this effect you could pick a darker red or less saturated cyan. The left side actually looks perfect 🙂 . The clipped snowflake texture adds additional character to the already unusual placement of the text. Love it!

#

@neat shale so @velvet axle suggested adding motion blur to indicate a falling motion. Could be a fun way to emphasize the effect even more but it would also reduce the crispness of the text against the background. Also you wouldn't just apply the basic motion blur because each letter would fall individually (and most likely not in a straight path). My suggestion, if you want to try out his suggestion, would be to use the path blur and draw a curved path for every letter, essentially applying the blur letter by letter

#

@grave meteor First of all, great design 🙂 I love how the red ribbon passes behind the wing of the parrot. It looks like the resolution of your source images is slightly too low though. You start to see some pixel artifacts here:

#

ideally your design would have the same resolution as your mockup file, so at least 2500x2500 🙂

#

It also appears like the post card is stretched vertically. This usually happens if the dimensions of the mockup don't match the original dimensions of the design. For example, a square design would not work well on a super thin mockup. Sure, you can stretch it until it fits but it won't look great. And I think something similar happened here.

#

I took your image and reduced the height of the mockup while trying to keep the perspective mostly the same.

#

On the right you can see the transformed version and I believe it looks much more natural. The mockup seems like the intended format is actually square, whereas most postcards are landscape 🙂

#

@glacial path & anyone else, what is a good site to download some free mockup files for these cards. I have the one from Adobe and have played with changing the colors and background etc. But I would like some alternatives from a free and SAFE site. If anything, I'll just whip one up. ✌️

@hollow field Ooh, very cool! The bow looks great! I think darkening the bow down just a touch and adding a soft cast shadow under it could sell the effect even more. Maybe something like this? Nice work! (excuse the poor GIF quality)

#

@lusty turret I really love the way you added the objects within a frame the way you did with the tree shape. The soft contrast and warmth to the image is really nice too. There’s a really nice balance and composition to this image, nicely done!

#

@neat shale Very cool! I like the depth you got with the added image. There’s definitely some nice blend modes like hard light which can really push that feeling of light passing through the design, it works well for this image. I really like the green/blue and purple color palette of this one!

#

@hearty wharf Looks good Tan! I really like the paper texture and all the layering you got with this image. It definitely adds some nice depth. The shapes work really nicely with the sun and trees as well, very nice! If I had to make any suggestion it could be to play around with more size variation with the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th trees, so make them a bit smaller gradually to push the depth even more. But that’s a minor suggestion, nice work!

#

@wicked nexus Ooh, I love the designs within the trees. There’s a really nice consistent style to this whole design. I like how you separated the grass for more depth, but it could also be interesting to have the layers overlapping completely and separate it with a drop shadow instead. But it looks great either way, nice job!

#

@lusty turret That bow looks great, really nice job! Very clean and careful work with the folds and shadows. Great depth to this, suits the image very nicely!

bleak fossil
#

@vivid dew Loving these designs for the Day 3 challenge! Really nice variety to the shapes and designs. The background texture is a really nice touch and I like how the shadows are reserved for the center shapes to really pull attention. Very cool!

#

@neat shale Day 2 looks really nice! I like how the style of the bow and text seem to match each other. They contrast nicely over the photo as well, nice work!

#

@blazing quail Ooh, very festive! Looking good, I like the snow effect. My only thought is it looks a little busy at the moment, maybe lowering the contrast/opacity of the background could really let the text and snow flakes be a bit more visually dominant? Nicely done!

#

@ruby panther Nice work, the changes look good! I like the sense of depth you got with the varying tree sizes and shape layering. The red text makes for some nice pop too!

#

@young karma Day 3 is looking good Mina! I like the way the tress frame the image on the sides, it definitely seems like it could be a Christmas card with some text in the center. I like the bits of asymmetry in the hills in the background too, looks really nice!

#

@hybrid yacht That's awesome, glad to hear it! I think sometimes it just takes a bit of warming up to get used to the process again, but these challenges will be great for that. I like the textures you got in this image, it gives it an interesting feel. I think it might help to separate the hills with a softer drop shadow rather than a black lines. It might look good to keep that contrast a bit more delicate and let those trees be a bit more visually dominant instead. Nice job!

grave meteor
#

@glacial path Oh ,Iam so appreciated in your feedback on my work , really thankful 🙏❤️💕 for you

bleak fossil
#

@cold cedar Oh wow, this came out great! I love the delicate soft feel of the first one (maybe lightening up the grey of the tress all together just a touch could balance it a bit more?) and I think the color scheme for the second one works great as well. Always cool to see how much color can change an image. These are great!

#

@limber birch Very nice Marilynn! The bow looks good and I love the watercolor texture of the trees in the background. I think it might help the softer feel/color palette of this image if you don't have the silhouette of the kids and snowman in the foreground and the text be complete black. Maybe a softer grey or something to match the soft contrast and feel of the rest of the image. Or even a softer cooler grey. Nice job!

@granite carbon Ooh, very nice! This design has a really strong shadow box feel, I like it! Also really nice job on the composition, it has a really strong silhouette and there's a nice variation of shape sizes going on. If I had to make any suggestions I think you could vary the sizes even more by making the bottom bird a bit smaller (which would also help avoid the tangents near its head and tail) and maybe the top bird a bit bigger. Might help push that focal point even more. nicely done!

@magic rampart Nice work on the bow! I like how you matched the color scheme of the bow and the text, it gives it a nice cohesive look that way. My only suggestion would be to maybe do a simple levels adjustment on the photo to brighten it up a bit and make it fit with the more bright/upbeat feel of the bow and text. Maybe something like this? I basically added a levels adjustment to brighten it up, a little boost of brightness to her face and upper body with a darkish desaturated yellow tone on a color dodge layer, a cooling photo filter (with it masked out a little on the girl to keep her a little warmer). Of course there are all the photo editing suggestions, the designs you did look great!

#

@granite carbon Looking good Linda! I like the soft yellow contrast against the purple text! The soft offset cast shadows on the background is a nice touch too, and kind of have their own subtle graphic read which adds a little something to the composition. Nice work!

This is a composite, fox, background, and birds were all added together. Of course, the reflection was added too. I'm not very good at perspective! #

@nova swan with trees, but push the ones he's looking at up a little so the bottom of the trunk line up with his nose. right now it looks like those trees are sitting down in a valley which could work also, but then I'd add a little swoop line or something to indicate that the land goes down hill from the ice, and then back up to the mountains. or increase their size and leave them where they stand, but they need to be bigger perspective wise IMO. the caribou looks great, that texture really sells it.

@vivid dew Nice work on Day 4, this is a really cool design! I really like the tree pines in the corners, and the diagonal balance looks really nice. I also like how you seem to have a bit of a hazy/snowy feel with the contrast of the text being a bit lighter. One small suggestion might be increasing the contrast of the text ever so slightly so it isn’t overpowered by the dark pines in the corner, but at the same time still keeping that snowy atmosphere effect. And maybe lightening the larger strings on the far left and right to match the rest of the strings. The strings are a nice touch too, I like how they’re not all perfectly vertical. Well done!

#

@high wharf Very cool Jesse! It’s always really interesting to see all the different components that go into creating an image. I really like how you used textures, shadows, and layering to get that nice paper cute/card look. I think it might look good to edit the bench a bit more to try and make it fit in with the look and style of the rest of the image. Maybe make it more blue and have the shadows not go any deeper than the blues of the foreground trees or background sky. Might help tie it into the rest of the image a bit more. Nicely done!

#

@undone tartan This is looking great! I love the warm light of the dogs face against the cool background. Really great job on masking the dog too, looks very clean. The perspective and bold colors give the whole thing a really nice playful feel. I think it could be worthwhile to try shifting the shadow of the text but I don’t think it looks glaringly wrong or anything since the light is still top down. The blurred background was a great choice, all the shapes read very well!

#

@dim brook Really nice job on Challenge 5 CeCi! The graphic style of the background is a really cool idea. I could almost imagine there being a counter colored blue/cool version of this one. I really like the faded contrast of the corgi’s reflections, but I think you could push it even further by blurring the reflections slightly, and maybe even fading them with a soft brush and mask around the tops (or in the reflections case, the bottom) of the corgis. Might sell that reflection effect a bit more. Looking good!

The image I wanted to use of an Illustrator drawing I did of my dog a couple of years ago did not really work. This is from some designs I have been working on using Adobe Capture, I just took out current background and replaced with new one and added the reflection. Did a blue version, and the original. I actually did the reflections first then merged all the layers of dog & reflection and applied the adjustments from there.

quick fix as I dont have all the layers but it always help to set a ground plane to use as a reference. @fast moth Well done on the pasted illustrations. The composition is well-placed and the darker background color helps to increase the contrast between the flowers and the background. Great font selection, but with script fonts you usually don't type in ALL CAPS because the letters are supposed to be connected 🙂 . @floral gorge Nice job with the reflection of the fox! The blur adds to the effect nicely. I think you could probably lighten the feet on the reflection ever so slightly. The black of the reflection's feet seem a bit dark compared to the rest of it.
I’m not quite sure what you mean by making the picture into a “3D” paint style. Anna’s fox was illustrated so if you’re going for that more illustrated look you’d want to draw/paint your own. You could probably also play around with some Photoshop filters (maybe the “artistic” ones) to get more of a stylized look. This example was done with the Sponge filter. Nice work!

fast moth
bleak fossil
#

@young karma Hah, looking good Robert. I like the subtle reflection of both animals, it works nicely. I like all the various elements you added together to create this image. This is a really small nitpick, but sometimes when masking or compositing images together you can get faint white outlines where objects are supposed to be touching the ground. Typically this area of “ambient occlusion” is the darkest area so the bright areas can throw it off a little. Here’s a quick example. Good job!

#

@fathom moon Ooh, this is a really cool composite. My only thought is the contrast of the planet in the background is greater than the rest of the image, which doesn't really happen with far away object. I think this could be balanced out with a simple boost of the brights in the rest of the photo via a levels adjustment layer. Maybe something like this?

#

@mellow horizon Nice DMarc, looking good! The faded color/contrast of the reflection works nicely. If you wanted to push it even further I think you could blur the reflection slightly and even use a mask and airbrush to fade the reflection a little bit towards the edge at the very bottom of the image. Good job!

@vivid dew Really nice work! It's been nice to see this image come together. Really nice work on the addition of the ribbon too! The style looks great, and I really like the white border and twist of the tail of the ribbon. The warming of the color of the eyes and mouth was a good touch to bring more life into the dog. I think it could even be interesting to see the cool coloring of the dog faded off ever so slightly using a mask and soft brush to get more of the original warm coloring in the dogs head/chest region. Just a touch so a little more warmth it hitting the dog which might make it look a little more natural as well as act as a nice focal point in terms of color temperature. Just a subtle shift. Really nice work!

#

@hearty wharf This is really nice! The soft reflection is looking solid and I really like the texture and hand drawn style to the whole thing. Looking good!

#

@keen granite This is a really nice design! The balance between the blue and white works really well and gives the whole image a upbeat feel. The reflection looks good! I think adding a subtle blur to it might push the effect even further. Well done!

#

@hollow field Day 4 challenge is looking good! Nice work. Currently I feel like the image is pretty top heavy with the bold yellow text, perhaps you could brighten the center area by masking a levels adjustment layer or using a color dodge layer to balance it out a bit? Really nice work on the snow texture!

#

@blazing quail That ribbon looks so good! The color choices work really well, and I love that fabric texture you used. It could be interesting to see what it might look like if you applied some sort of artistic filter to the greenery to see if you could give it more of a stylized look that fits the feel of the ribbon and text. @keen granite Very cool concept! I really like the color palette. If you wanted to push this image even further I think adding a multiply layer to create soft cast shadows under some of the over hanging flowers could really set them in the scene. I usually do this with some sort of selection tool and a soft round brush using a desaturated purple/red color. Maybe something like this? It’s super subtle, but oftentimes I feel like these tweaks can be the little details that really sell the effect. Really nice work with these!

#

@undone tartan Very nice! The hand written text looks really good! I like the background too, some nice subtle texture. This might seem odd, but I think the whole image might read better if you reversed the values of the banner and greenery. Meaning, have the banner be a lighter green, and the greenery be a bit darker. I feel like it would really help the banner read and balance the image a bit more naturally. Maybe something like this using levels adjustments?

#

@dim brook Looking good! It’s nice to see all those different elements come together. Nice job on the leaves! The only suggestion I have would maybe be to tone down the highlight of the center part of the background curtain, not to darken it down overall, but just tone down the hot spots of the highlight in the center ever so slightly as to not create too much competing contrast with the rest of the design. Nice work!

#

@hearty wharf Ooh, I love the flat colors of different overlapping values on the wreath. The long bits of leaves coming off the sides are a really nice touch too. Did you draw the center part? Looks great! Really clean line work.

#

@kindred kernel Well done Gerard, this is looking good! Really interesting color palette of flowers. Nice work putting these all together. I think a subtle/soft cast shadow under the wreath using a multiply layer could add a nice little extra dimension, and even maybe under the center rose to really sell the overlapping effect. Good job!

#

@blazing quail Great mood and color to the Day 7 challenge! I like how it seems like you color corrected the wreath to match the same warm color temperature of the rest of the image, well done!

#

@fast moth Nice work putting these together Camilo! The wreath for Day 7 is looking good. Maybe a soft/subtle cast shadow underneath could help set it in the image a bit more? Perhaps the roses could use a levels adjustment to make the deepest darks slightly deeper to closer match the strong contrast that the green part has. Looks good!

#

@young karma This turned out so good! Really loving that hand drawn/painted feel you got, very nicely done. Awesome texture and detail, I could easily imagine seeing this on watercolor paper. Mock up was a great touch too, very nice!

#

@tacit condor Really nice design to this whole image of the Day 5 challenge! The reflection of the text and texture of the ice add some really nice secondary shapes. The reflection of the cat looks a little smushed to fit within the canvas, which creates a bit of a tangent. I think it might be better to keep it the normal height and let it crop off the canvas if need be. I think fading the opacity just ever so slightly more, and fading off the very bottom part slightly wish a mask and soft round brush like Anna did might help sell the effect more and at the same time keep the contrast and focal point up near the main cat. Really nice work on this, really liking what you did with the text!

#

@neat flax The changes are looking good! I think the darker background helps the design read more. I think maybe you could ease off how dark and far spread the shadow under the rose is to let the text read a bit more clearly. Nice work on all these hand drawn elements?

#

@mild spruce Day 1 is looking good! I think you got a really strong stained glass effect here, and the strong contrast in the second image of the bright red against the darker blue really helps it pop and have a bit of a glowing effect. The hot spots in the first red image give a nice sense of light passing through too! My only thought is the first one doesn't have as much contrast as it could to give the whole image a clear read since the background and center design are a similar color and value. I think you could either shift the value or color temperature of one of them to help separate them a bit. Nice work!

#

@plain sable Nice work on the images for Day4 and 5! These are great designs. I love the environment of the llama and the design sign look of Day 4 is a really cool effect. I think you could brighten the white of the center design ever so slightly for Day 4 to balance out the really heavy contrast of the blue text, and I think perhaps the llama's reflection might look a little more natural if it was straight down. Nice job on both of these!

#

@pulsar sparrow The Day 4 mock up looks really good! I love how the card looks like it has a bumpy texture to it!

#

@thorn geyser Very nice! The shadows and clean edges really give a nice feeling of that cut out paper effect. Well done 😄

#

@wet thistle Nice work Carry, the snowflake texture pattern is really looking cool. I think it might help to brighten up the text a little bit so it gets closer to matching the brightness of the bow. Might help it read a bit better and balance out the rest of the image. Look good!

@magic hedge well done in sharing all the elements Photoshop 💯 looks absolutely gorgeous! love the colours and the blue works beautifully. I wouldleave the text on the ribbon as thin as in the other artwork to preserve legibility.👌

hi @night maple I will definitetly use the camera raw filter to bring down exposure and saturation on the bow. it will help you match the lighting of the photo and tie together the composite. ps is that your cat looks so soft and fluffy super cute 😻 💙 🥰

@kindred kernel Great use of a previous challenge! I would make the background slightly less saturated to bring out the flowers and maybe make everything a bit bigger so we can see that lovely detail!

#

@blazing quail Candy colored! I love these, they remind me of iridescent beetles in nature! You did a great job offsetting the vans and adding the diagonal lines in the background. One thing I would do is size up the background so that there aren't so many lines. Great touch with the white paint splatters as well!

@dim brook I love it!! I'm so glad you're using Fresco as well. Corgis and caramels, you can't go wrong! I think most of the colors are working well, but I feel like a warmer color could unify everything really nicely. You get extra points for using patterns within patterns, btw.

#

@supple canopy oh man, eye surgery and still creating!! I'm in favor of the snowy version. I like the idea of snow coming from the wreath, you could concentrate the snow around the edges and bottom of the curve. I would also make the text slightly smaller to make sure it doesn't hot the inner edge of the wreath. The bird looks great with the theme and color palette!

#

@pulsar sparrow Nice work, very cool image! I like the texture and everything you have going on. The reflection is looking good too, it just seems that the face area in the reflection isn’t quite as affected by the blur effect. I think having the head area blurred, and maybe even using a mask to fade off that area of the reflection a little to give it a bit of a fade might make the reflection look even better. Looks good!

#

@hidden pendant This looks good Trish! I think one thing that could help would maybe be to lighten up the background just a bit so the dark green of the wreath contrasts a bit better. Maybe even something with a gradient that gets a bit lighter towards the top could help give the "lighting" a more natural look and feel in addition to contrasting a bit better. Really loving that text choice too, nice work!

#

@mellow horizon Looking good DMarc! I really like this design, very clean and simple and works very well. I like the simple red/green color scheme and the way you masked out part of the text. Gives it a nice addition of depth. Nicely done!

#

@ruby panther Changes are looking good Shawn! I think it looks better now that the snow can be seen everywhere. Though I think maybe you could use a levels adjustment to brighten up the entire background a little closer to the overall brightness you originally had it to balance out the brightness of the text, but with the nice read the background currently has. Looking good!

#

@golden root Hah, cute, nice job on the masking with the cat image! It looks really clean, the only thing I might suggest is if you could sharpen the edges of the wreath, because right now it looks a little out of focus compared to the cat. Could even be nice to get a really soft cast shadow under it to sell the effect. Nice job!

#

@kindred kernel Ahh, very cool, it's nice to see you use your previous design in this challenge! This is just personal preference, but it might help to tone down the saturation of your blue background just a bit as to not over power the design of the flowers. Good work!

#

@blazing quail Hah, this is a great take on this challenge, very cool! Love the tie dye design concept of this whole thing. I’m also a big fan of VW buses myself, we had one up until a couple years ago. My only though is staggering and spacing the buses slightly more might help the design not feel too cramped. But that’s just a minor thought. Great design!

#

@wet thistle Looking good Carry, I like the changes! Everything has a nice read to it. I think it could help to turn down the saturation on the red ever so slightly to give a stronger focal point and attention to the rest of the image. Looking good!

#

@forest aspen The text for Day 5 is looking great! Really like that style. The reflection and texture of the background looks really nice. I like the fade of the reflection, I think giving it a little blur could push that look even more. Nice work!

#

@night maple These are looking really nice! I love the flower design and texture. The ribbon looks great too! Really nice shine and lighting to it. The only suggestion I'd have would to maybe arrange the ribbon more to the top left so it isn't lining up on the edge of the cats chin, or even moving the cat photo down to the right. Just a thought, nicely done!

@dim brook Ooh, it’s cool to see all these different designs. Very nice! I think it might be a bit busy just due to all the different designs and how close they are together. I think often times these types of design work best with just 1-2 images, and with a little more space between each object. Might give it a more balanced, cohesive feel. You could probably even make more than one design using all these different images/assets. Nice job!

#

@supple canopy Nice job Lynn! Hope the eye surgery recovery is going well! This is looking good! I think I prefer the one with the bits of snow over the background. It seems to balance out the intensity of the white of the wreath. Looks good!

#

@nova swan Ah you totally should! It's really cool how much of a visual different changing the background color can make. They all look really nice, I like how you varied up the designs a bit too!

#

@honest gorge Wow, these are looking great! Very nice collection of work. I like the variety you have in styles throughout the different designs! I especially like the soft, clean designs of the Day 3 challenge, and the almost watercolor look of Day 7. Really great work!

#

@unique folio Very cool Nikki! The variation in direction of the design on this pattern gives it a really nice, lively feel. My only thought if I had any would be that giving a little more space between each design might give it a little more breathing room. Nice work!

#

@unkempt field Nice work Ebonies! I like the font you used. I wonder if adding a slight drop shadow to the text might help it read a bit better in the thin areas and against the light background. I think desaturating the entire image just a tiny bit might help balance the image too, as it's currently all very intense and vibrant, but that's really just personal preference. Really nice design, this looks great!

#

@supple canopy Very nice, you scanned that part yourself? Nice work putting all thse elements together. I think a really easy fit to help the greenery fit in with the rest of the elements would be to use a levels adjustment to boost the darker tones and match the contrast of everything else. Currently it doesn't have any deeper darks to make it look like it fits in. Good job on this!

#

@static coral This design looks great for the Day 8 challenge! I really like the hand drawn look of the candy canes and the holly leaves are a great touch to break up the design a bit. Nice work!

#

@worn condor Hah, nice work on the Day 6 challenge! I really like the hand drawn feel and texture of the leaves in this one. My only suggestion would be to maybe separate the values of the background and the front part of the ribbon, right now they're very similar in value and separating the a bit more could really help everything have a stronger read. Well done!

#

@nova swan The wreath design is looking really nice! I love the texture you got on the ribbon, and the color variety and watercolor feel of the leaves on the wreath. The whole image has a really awesome hand painted feel, very nicely done!

#

@tacit condor Challenge 7 is looking great! This has a great style and illustrated feel. The red leaves are a really nice contrasting element to break up all the green too. Nice work on the mock up as well!

#

@young karma Ooh, I really like the different color palette and design of this one! The little stars and swirls in between the other designs are a really nice touch. The corgis look great too, hah. Nice work on these!

#

@ruby panther I think the white dots and snow actually work quite well! I don't think it takes away from the snowmen as long as the dots aren't too large or plentiful.

#

@fast moth The snowman and gingerbread designs are looking great! My only thought is they seem a bit crowded. I think a little more space in between each design might allow it to breath a bit. I definitely think the blue background was a nice change. Looking good!

#

@fathom moon Oooh, these intricate designs within each of the shapes is super interesting. Very cool to see the variety in colors and your take on this challenge.

#

@hidden pendant Looking good Trish! I really like those tree designs. I like the snowflakes too, It could be nice to see those repeated a little more throughout the design. It's kind of a nice element to break up the trees. Nice job!

#

@magic rampart Whoa, awesome job on all these flowers. They fit together so nicely and I love how there's a nice focal point flower at the top. Really nice balance to the whole thing. The ribbon is looking solid too! I wonder if you could brighten up the ribbon ever so slightly, and darken down the text just a touch. Increasing the contrast between the two might help it have a bit more of a clear read. Looks good!

#

@hearty wharf Love the look and style of your Day 8 challenge! Very classic feel to it, it works really well! The candy canes and holly leaves look great and balance each other out very well. Nicely done!

#

#

@kindred kernel Very cool gradient and texture going on in this challenge Gerard! It’s cool to see you combining the previous challenges into this one. @thorn geyser The Day 5 fox image is looking really good! I like the fade and slight blur of the reflection. I think you could push the effect even more if you used a layer mask to fade off the reflection a little at the very bottom of the image. Just to get that effect where the reflection loses definition as areas get further away from the ice. Just a thought. I really like the falling snow texture too!
