Player retention suggestion:

Players want to live the 1-character fantasy, but as a new player I made over 10 alts and leveled them up to 5 or 10 before quitting, deleting, and trying again until I found something I like, which goes against the philosophy of "One character can do it all".

Two suggestions:
1: Primordium cost changes - Dyanmic pricing based on the number of relics you own.
Relic(n) = 15 + (n - 1) × 31.9

First one is 15 primordium, second is 47, third is 79. ... 22nd is 684 primordium.

[[ OR ]]

2: Newbie island - Free relic changes!
Allow relics to be traded in freely for exchange until a specific quest is completed. That quest also acts as a gate, preventing the player from leveling any skill past lvl 10, and prevents them from traveling anywhere except the newbie island, cobalt tower, and the newbie dungeon.

Consider it a trial mode.

Once the player makes a decision, the relic cost locks in and prevents the player from trading in relics to try other classes, but allows them to level past lvl 10, and leave the newbie island/cobalt tower/newbie dungeon.

I think these two ideas could help player retention , especially new players who don't want to have to reroll a dozen times to find a class they like.

the math above would be rounded to the nearest integer, and would result in the same primordium cost for 22 relics (7,700) as the current cost (350 * 22 = 7,700)

I would just note that the solution to this issue is in game via the Training Grounds orb near the Training Dummies in Farwood

You can test all classes at level 30 with their full kits + various monsters to try to fight as well

Still too obscure

#

I would put it as a quest

I mean... theres quests you get from the guards, which this would be added to their chat menu. So... unless someone just is doing a no quest locked Ironman, they will see it.

I will say the npc interactions are not that noob friendly

#

A quest that automatically gets added once you create the character would do the trick

I would remove class selection from the character creation process and add choosing a relic and testing them as part of the tutorial process instead. When learning how to fight the wolves the guy in the room with you should allow you to swap relics and when you leave that room is when you lock in your starter relic. Still keep training grounds somewhere of course for testing.

Oh shit, that's a fun take on it

#

I really like that idea. But if you skip the tutorial how do you get a relic?

Make it mandatory up until that point with the option to skip gathering and crafting.

OSRS has a mandatory tutorial and it doesn't seem to be a problem. Skipping any amount of it seems like a fair compromise
