My ranger had a hell of a time starting as a new character.

  • ability "spiritroot" started with it.. couldn't use it, it kept telling me to get more spirit or nature, it only started working after level 5 spirit, and didn't work half the time.
  • slow bow attack speed and weak damage, the gameplay looks like my character watching the enemy punch him.
  • ability "spirit shot" that would sometimes cancel the channel and shoot regardless of if the channel finish, even if stationary.
  • ability "spirit companion" i had to go through loading screens back and forth for quests because my pet would get stuck in walls or the wrong floor and would glitch out and not be helpful.
  • If i mashed ability buttons while moving my character would perform a stutter step which didn't play too well.

So far of the handful of classes i'v played, the Ranger is the worst one to start with and i did not have fun with it.

Hey there sorry for the trouble here and thanks for taking the time to share your perspective

  • ranger is an imbue class so you’ll want to apply nature arrows to your bow, this spell should be on your hotbar automatically but if it’s not try to press P and find it in your spellbook

You need nature arrows to generate spirit link stacks with your attacks, which lets you cast some abilities

  • the attack speed is a bit slow for bow early on, but you’ll benefit later from itemisation. Also, your wolf should be very powerful and you’ll be able to avoid taking damage once he’s up and running

  • spirit shot scales based on how long you charge the attack, if you let it cast the full duration you’ll do a lot more damage but we need to have the cancel on movement to make this choice possible

  • pets are buggy at the moment in terms of movement, we are working on a fix for this - in the mean time you may need to toggle passive / defensive to reset the logic

Overall, Ranger starts a bit weak until the pet, then it becomes strong and very comfy to play when the pet is doing more of the damage

However the bugs definitely reduce playability at the moment

See, not enough room until i expand to 2 rows.
There was 5 missing abilities.

Ah yes that’s a good point

We are working on some logic that will prevent adding the spells that you can’t use to the hotbar on login - this should make it much easier to get started

Thank you for sharing these - we will get them fixed up

Re-created the Ranger, i found i leveled the previous ranger to 5 without knowing it was missing 3 spells.

When i got to level 5 spirit, the pet gave me 2 more abilities that don't show up in the Spellbook.

Assassin had more hidden.

oh right, so disciplines are the what the wiki calls archetype?

dense marsh
#

so you play with a relic, and level a discipline

#

and you progress multiple relics within that discipline

druid, ranger, warden all use spiritualism

pure spire
#

blew my mind a lil bit, coz i thought.. what if 2 relics..

dense marsh

haha yea multi-classing would be cool

Like guild wars 1 - my fav game of all time

but its hard to balance

pure spire

that could be the fun of balancing it too, make some cool combos.. cultist/demonism/necromancer..
