As in the spellcaster is elsewhere but can see through the subject's eyes and maybe hear through their ears.

Yeah I suppose that is pretty similar. Not necessarily through their eyes or ears, but it says within 10 feet of the target, so that could be their head right?

it's actually a pretty big buff to scry if you can see everything they can since it specifically excludes around them
