There's some discussion about the oppresive lonliness of the Radius, and whether having a 'buddy' is a tonal match. Clearly, Lauri serves a function in the story that the devs feel is necessary. I do not think it's impossible to have our cake and eat it too, here. I think the issue most players are really feeling is that we've taken a 180 and now we have two very friendly and upbeat people talking to us quite often. It may be a little late in development for this, but I do think a lot of the malice towards the guide could be solved with just some different VO direction. I've seen some discussion over writing, but I'm not even certain that really needs a change- I think maybe what's missing is a little bit of bitterness, or even sarcasm. Silent Hill, Stalker, Metro- all 'lonely, atmospheric' games with a host of beloved NPCs. Don't kill my boy yet, he needs time to cook.

I agree it's definitely possible to implement the guide and supervisor it just has to be more subtle

I appreciate the kind words but I just wanna point out I am not hunting after anybody's job: I'm sure his current actor is perfectly capable of performing something like this, just as I am able to do silly or happy-go-lucky. The video is just meant to be an example 🙂

Yeah just different tone and delivery might be enough to save him. But Katya in the first game also talked about herself and her past life and pechorsk, i kinda miss that. The guide never talks about himself or past of the town (well I'm at recreation base mission, he never did it so far) , or idk he looks like former explorer, why not elaborate on that? Have he guided anyone else? What happened to them? All his dialogue is about the present or very near future (like next mission) , while this game is about the town stuck in the past.

I still think the best way to do it would be to turn him into a Katya like npc in terms of dialogue
