I can't put my finger on why, but it just feels worse. getting a big mission in ITR1 and planning your route beforehand was fun, and felt big. seeing a location on the map in both games and thinking, "I wanna go there" is fun. combing over every part of the map to fill it in, is not fun. I see that with this system, it will name locations as you explore them. expand upon THAT, but this fog exploration system, is just bad. Maybe the basic geography is shown, and its shown where points of interest are, but you need to get close and investigate to get further information. also, in maps with a lot of water, the water will always be unfilled, which is just unsatisfying.
#the new "fog exploration" system is unsatisfying.

or maybe, if you want to give us a sense of exploration, let us write notes on the map. this game's exploration is already phenominal, don't ruin it.
I feel like they could do a few things to fix this
- make the discover radius slightly larger
- maybe add in flash drives with complete or partial maps we can find and plug into the tablet
- small sound effect when we discover a new location maybe? only if its not annoying
Flash drives would be nice, especially if they were tied to missions. Like, you know how there are exploration missions? Maybe those give a flash drive to the rest of the map.
Could be optional side missions that point to where one is hidden. Would add to replayability if they always spawn (unless you have it already), letting experienced players grab them early
Actually a really good idea.
I like the new fogged map.
I think the new fog is great, for a new player, it isn't as overwhelming when you get a new map and you have more sense of wander when you go to explore, as the map doesn't spoil what's up ahead. It effects new players more ofc
you receive a flash drive every top mission that reveals (in lower fidelity) a large portion of the map around your objective that's updated as you get closer
It would be awesome if we only got a map of pre-radius pechorsk, and then as we explored details would be written in where significant changes have happened (ex. “Floating house” or “x anomaly field”
That would work actually. The UNPSC would have pre radius photos and geography, and this system would mean you can still plan beforehand, because the map would show geography, while still keeping the feeling of exploration.
Actually a great idea.
And it would make you more curious and want to explore more, because you will want to see what happened to each location!
that is such an awesome idea
The only thing I hate about the new fog of war is that I will never be able to uncover all of it and as a person with OCD it makes my left eye twitch. I think it'd rock to go for more of a 'puzzle piece' approach to revealing the map than unlocking via proximity.
tbh i havent fully or nearly explored the outskirts, but id much rather have a full map of if WHEN i unlock the location like itr1 did. looking at the huge map and all the places i can go is so great for mission planning and also enamoring to look at especially for the first time
the flash drives maybe could be hidden as like the weapon stashes, like now the stashes have a dead body beside them, maybe we could grab their tablet and "download" their map information and have us see their own notes of enemy's hordes or secret stashes?
I feel that the fog system is great. It is realistic because this is the first time we are exploring the map so it makes sense we don't know what is there. the low water level do make it easy to skip encounters and it is good to avoid tough spots that not all of us wants to encounter
