#Smaller Hands Please

I think a great improvement to the inventory system would be to have smaller hand hitbox/ smaller area to auto lock onto items to pick up.

I, like many others, am a hoarder. If I see something of value, it goes in the bag.

I normally can deal with organising by placing things on top of each other in certain categories. For example - anything being sold when I get back goes in the top right, all meshed together.

I try to put rounds into boxes as I find each of them. This often means little groups of rounds in separated, but close, areas. When I find a box I then drop them in.

I also place ammunition for me weapons on the middle left, healing on the top left and food on the bottom left.

My issue is that the auto lock means it can be very hard to grab what I am trying to grab. I reach for a box of ammo on the middle left, and my hand picks up a syringe that is right up in the top left corner. The centre of the syringe is not the closest item to my hand and is not what my hand is pointing at. I can only assume the hitbox of my hand is too big, and the hitbox of the syringe is too big, or maybe there is some kind of priority system for what is grabbed.

Either way, I think smaller hitboxes for items and hands would be a good quality of life improvement to inventory management.

I think another solution might be to have a 'hit marker' for your hands when using the backpack or when a hand is placed inside any storage area (like a dump pouch). That would at least let me adjust how I am moving my hands, and how I am placing my hands, in order to pick up the item that I want.

the issue with this is you'd have to be almost pixel perfect when trying to grab something out of a holster if they changed the hitbox. And since during the current update the ITR 1 body feature is broken, we're stuck with the ITR 2 body setting which is objectively ass lmao.

it doesn't properly turn in a way that I was used to with the ITR 1 setting that I used before the update, and still a lot of the time when I'm slightly turned and try to grab something from a side holster it doesn't work, my hip IRL is straight, and my upper body is turned, but in the ITR 2 body setting the body turns with the head when you aren't looking down, which SUCKS, because this was not an issue with the other setting, but they still haven't fixed it

Thing is, the system in ITR 1 worked pretty well. If I rotated my hands and moved them around I could get the item that I wanted by finding the sweet spot. In ITR 2, rotating my hands doesn't do much, and moving them just snaps their lock on between certain items, usually the largest ones. There is no 'finding the sweet spot' by moving your hands slowly, there is something that is snapping their target between the two items despite a third being in the middle.

I guess my point is that I think it needs improving. I'm suggesting ways to improve it but not saying that's the way it needs to be, ultimately that's not anybody's role here aside from the devs. I would rather have a discussion about if it needs improving and the multiple ways it could be, than picking apart any specific way in too much depth.

Agreed. I'm really not enjoying my body constantly turning with the smallest of head moves. Especially in buildings. That feels more detrimental to the ability to draw from a holster than small hitboxes would be. I can get used to a small hitbox by consistently having holsters in the same place, I can't get used to my body sometimes being turned, sometimes not, sometimes teleporting 2ft left or right because I'm leaning, sometimes not. I would rather it be less sensitive and I have to use the joystick to turn more, than it to do the weird stuff it currently does, but I'm sure there is a balance like ITR 1 had.

I'm not talking about ITR 1 itself. There's a setting in ITR2, to change how the body works, there's an ITR 1 setting, and ITR 2 setting. ITR1 is a billion times better, but it stopped working during the beta, and I'd imagine they didn't fix it either since it wasn't mentioned at all in the patch notes. The ITR 1 setting was almost 1-1 with how it was in ITR 1.

I know what you’re talking about. I’ve struggled to perceive any difference between those settings at all. However I didn’t buy game until after the current release so never experienced the ITR1 setting working.
