In real life, with no barrel, even half an inch, the pellets would have almost no significant velocity once the firing caps ignite the powder. You would have almost no penetration even at point blank range. True, it would fire, but it would just be loud. The energy would just go outwards and not be directed anywhere to move the pellets in the shot.

Interesting video. I took a look, he got the best performance with the mini slugs so they could build up some momentum. The normal slugs got stuck in the gelatin. Still more dangerous than I would have expected, but I wouldn’t trust my life to that in the radius.

Would be cool to add in the game though. We already have gun jams. Your shotgun not working properly while you're in a fight is not a big deal.
You should have the freedom to fire your weapon without a barrel... and then deal with the consequences of your cursed build.
