Game crashes a lot

Been playing the game for months and never had it crash…among the other issues I’ve reported in the past..this is the first time I’ve had the game crash several times.

Are you using the Izh shotgun? There's a crashing issue with it which is (I believe, not confirmed) caused by using shotgun shell holders attached to the gun.

I was in a gunfight near the outskirts apartments and crashed 4 times in under 10 minutes, no idea what caused it because I changed nothing about my behavior and it stopped crashing once the fight was over. I didnt have a shotgun on me at all

I barely got into the Forest after character wipe, it kept crashing on me so I gave up playing.

Mine won't even load anymore. It crashes before the loading screen even comes up.

I removed the shell holder off the shotgun, still crashes.

Not sure if it’s the shotgun itself since it glitches closing the action too

Ok, so I found a fix to the crashing that may help others. Normally I use Virtual Desktop to connect to Steam. I decided to give Steam Link a try and everything worked. So if you're crashing and using Virtual Desktop, switch to Steam Link and see if that helps.

Most of my crashes involve the Izh. But it's never something specific. It's like that weapon is a bad luck charm that attracts crashing. It happens after reloading, or when I'm holsters it, or when I'm reloading it. Sometimes it just happens when I'm holding it.

Can you send your save file where the game crashe?

Or it was on game startup?

It was in startup. The beta crashed during compiling shaders, original crashed before it even launched. Since switching to Steam Link, everything loads.

I actually think most of my crashes I've had the izh on me now that I think about it

Not actively using it most of the time, but I'm either carrying it or I'm at the school building

Ok, did a test run using the shotgun, but without the shell holder. I didn't crash. There were a couple of times where it seemed like it was about to crash, but didn't. I did have issues loading the shotgun from the box. The shells wouldn't leave the box and go into the gun. I have to manually load it by hand. I'm gonna do a few more test runs to see if it was a one time thing or to confirm, once and for all, that the shell holder causes crashing. 😉

I don't think it's the shotgun at all. Tried leaving it behind only to experience the same kinds of crashes.

This is just in the forest area alone just starting out

Gonna try rolling back my GPU driver and see because with the stable release it's crashing randomly

The Beta 2 hotfix allegedly fixed the shotgun crash, so if you're crashing it's almost surely something else

I did roll my NVIDIA driver back to 580.88 while also doing a clean install and that seemed to improve the overall stability. I still ended up crashing eventually however. I was picking up a case of shotgun shells and loading the two rounds next to it into the box. I went to put the box into my bag and the game crashed. I'm willing to consider it a separate crash issue.

Just for complete clarity, I was able to get further into the forest area and complete a few objectives. Even did some platforming to get some artifacts.

Fixed the issue. Turns out it was something entirely on my end regarding my XMP profile for my RAM. Runs like a champ 🙂
