#Mimics are straight up not fun to fight

Mimics were never like this in the first game, I don’t think I’ve ever been this frustrated at this game.

I think this game is cool and it has a lot of well-done mechanics, but holy shit are some enemies just fucking dickheads. It doesn’t feel like it matters how much I stock up on medicine, it’s never enough. I always get spotted from an unreasonably far distance, and just lit-up.

Should it really be this fucking difficult to know where enemies are at all? You don’t even know one is just camping around a corner until it blasts you and jumpscares you with their obnoxious voices. You can’t even tell where an enemy is in the slightest in a fire fight unless you see where they’re shooting from

Best thing you can do is get low, find cover, and be strategic about the way you fight them

#

Running and gunning is not the best option

stark basin
#

I don’t even run and gun though? I take cover and it feels like if my pinkie toe is exposed they lock onto it and land 3 consecutive shots

#

I’m no stranger to taking cover and having a more defensive approach. I think that constantly feeling like I’m fighting enemies who always know where I am when I have to just guess at some points is the opposite of fun

gritty root
#

Then you gotta wait until you know they are vulnerable to take action, they don't have infinite ammo, they have to reload at some point

stark basin
#

It is realistic in the sense, but everytime I’ve taken advantage of a reloading enemy, they’ve locked in and traded a shot with me when I attacked them

gritty root
#

Move behind cover so that they shoot at the last place they saw you, they won't know you moved

stark basin
#

I think the fact that you can mag-dump the assholes with the shotguns and they will stare you in the eyes as they just shoot you

gritty root
#

They should only take like 2 shells to kill

#

Well from what I have seen is that if I get seen, I get behind a big rock or a big structure, and then try to find a new angle close by that I can move to without them seeing me, then once I have confirmed they haven't seen me move, I attack

#

It's all about precise aim and movement

stark basin
#

So wait before or after they spot you?

#

Cause it’s like Zomboid stealth with how much of a dice roll it is

gritty root
#

Wait after they have spotted you to move to a new location

stark basin
#

Do I just have to find a large-enough piece of cover?

gritty root
#

From what I have seen, yes

stark basin
#

Because I’ve tried to fake them out and they always insta-spot me if I’m ever behind them or I relocate. It’s at the point I don’t think that stealth exists because it feels like once you’re detected all the enemies have x-ray on you

gritty root
#

But then again good aim trumps everything

stark basin
#

Well that’s definitely a skill issue on my part

#

Still, it is very frustrating when they eat two slugs and just return fire. It happens too often

gritty root
#

Well then, find a big piece of cover, and take things slow

#

Im sure you'll be able to fight them efficiently and effectively very soon

#

You have a pretty good grasp on the combat already

stark basin
#

I hope, cause I literally never feel like I have enough ammo for anything

#

Right now I just have pistols and the double barrel so hopefully I’ll get my hands on something more my speed, because at the moment it feels like I’m armed with nerf guns

#

Remember that you can increase the mission rewards in the difficulty settings

#

This may seem like cheating or a handicap, but the game in its current state may or may not be balanced, so I think it's justified to alleviate the lack of ammo

Sorry, I know it’s not satisfying to hear, but I’m calling it a skill issue

#

I find the mimics to be incredibly fun to fight

#

I find them to be a refreshing breath of fresh air among a sea of easy enemies we typically get in VR

#

And I am desperately hoping the devs don’t dumb down the enemies

#

It is so exhilarating to finally have challenging enemies to fight

#

I thought ITR was a fun game

#

but going back to it just feels boring now in comparison the the ITR2 combat

#

There might be an acclimation period, but I love it

#

I will take challenging, borderline frustrating enemies over easy ones any day

#

But I think the devs probably have some decent difficulty options to scale things back a bit

The only 2 problems i have with mimics are not necessarily due to mimics themselves; 1 is the way they spot you from a different continent and you end up shooting at bullet tracers because you can't see them through the fog, and 2, is the sheer QUANTITY of the buggers that hide in the apartments completely silent lol

#

But, generally, i do really like the mimics' Ai - they run for cover, they rush you if they have a shotgun, they behave like real soldiers. Fighting them is more often than not a true ordeal regardless of what weapon you have because of their dynamic positioning. All I'd like to be tweaked is their voice lines and maybe appearance to be more itr and less 'generic soviet soldier'

As for then eating buckshot for breakfast, they only take one or 2 well placed shots, maybe 3 for the bigger boys. I always aim for the head with mimics, which means they tend to fall over instantly. Buckshot is much more forgiving than slugs so my advice would be to try and put yourself a bit closer to them, wait until you have a clear picture of where they are before emerging fully from cover, then return fire, if you miss or it doesnt kill them, relocate asap preferably out of their sight

It carried me pretty much up until the last top priority mission

lapis tree
#

easily my favourite from itr1

#

not because it was GOOD but because it was adorable lol

#

buckshot is so good in this game though i really REALLY want a pump action with it

#

if we dont get one i am going to scream

#

mimics in itr2 are SO much better in every way

#

straight up

#

if your complaining so much just turn them off

#

and also if you're complaining about not being able to see them GET SOME GLASSES

lapis tree
#

Hey now let's not be mean here

#

But yes, lowering things like enemy perception distance can help. I did that when they'd constantly shoot from the fog

#

Is it just me or did visibility get a little better in this last update

#

Anyway, my advice is to practice on a lower difficulty, and then increase it back when you're more comfortable

#

Oh, and if you have to fight them close up, know that strafing helps, as they're not good at leading shots

#

So, in some sense, you can run-and-gun, although not when there are a lot of mimics

#

But to pick off one guy as you get to cover, sure

lapis tree
#

just know you'll probably end up getting tagged anyway, especially if there's lots of them. It's just a fact of gunfights unless you're stealthy or some gun wizard

#

but you can minimise that through on the fly good decisions

#

prioritise the ones pushing up on you like the shotgunners, and if creeps gang up on you mid fight, pray

spark wigeon
#

Or run

#

And let things come to you one-by-one

Even with taa on

#

But I'll never use it

#

I remember it was something to do with the graphics or settings ini file but that's where I forget

Thank you very much

#

This is entirely a skill issue, I've not once had an issue like this with the mimics. I actually like the mimics not being braindead and boringly easy to fight like in the first game. Just turn every difficulty slider to the easiest setting and continue playing. Problem solved

He deleted the message lmfao

Eh I just keep getting pinged and idk how to mute the notifs
