and the enemy is closing in on the building while they search
but yea more puzzles!
Stash puzzles are the obvious low-hanging fruit
Come on, devs!
Give us more clues to follow
Some of the puzzle elements from TWDSS were fun
Where you have a photo and need to find that place
Or find a key in one map for a locked thing in another map
Or you are given clues
And you need to observe and follow
Like using the UV light to follow a trail of invisible spiders
the UNPSC crate at the pervomay entrance, that crate hidden around places
i feel like that one is a bit of a stretch, i'd get the key, go "huh, dont see a locked door anywhere" then immediately forget about it
or just leave it in 27 as a decoration
radius spiders
That’s why it’s rewarding!
You don’t have to do it
But for players that will spend dozens or hundreds of hours, it’s fun to have more stuff to do
More unfinished threads
Out in the zone
More loose ends
Like: ”what the heck is this key for?”
true, but with the ITR tradition of giving the player game-useless things for no over reason over than to decorate their house, people will just leave it at home
i would keep it
would the radius even be able to replicate a key & identical lock though?
Saints & sinners did not even have any hard “puzzles” in it at all
But it was still more interesting than ITR
In terms of doing things in the world
thats because there's a combined 8 puzzles in ITR probably
but yes
In Saints & Sinners:
- There is a book shelf in a house with a lock on it
- in front of the lock is a picture of a school
- on the back of the picture is a number (217, I think)
- later, if you are thorough with exploring, you find a key at the school… and may remember ”oh yeah, that locked shelf with the picture of a school!”
- you either forget about it, or you are excited to go back
This kind of stuff is great
Just more loose ends to do in the world
Same with recipes that have clues:
- “in the rubble of old town”
- the spider’s nest
- parking downtown is a pain
I guess that not too different from ITR stash notes
oooohh i get what you mean, like giving you a thing and hinting where it is
i thought you just meant
like
find a key on a desk
as individual loot
Yeah, they give you hints, same with safe codes and things
And what I love is that the hints and codes and recipes and safes are on different maps
i like when games do that
but not for main levels!
If you want to
its always the worst feeling when you leave a game area feeling like theres more stuff that you havent found/seen
Even a similar game like Chernobylite will give you reasons to go back for small stashes
for example if you walk through a hall and the tunnel collapses or something
That you couldn’t get right away
no hint of progression before progressing sucks
Oh, I read that wrong
I thought you meant it’s a bad feeling when you leave feeling like there’s nothing left to see
No reason to go back
I want reasons to go back to places
But players don’t have to
I just want more replayability
More things to do
more for linear games though
i feel like exodus does that a lil bit where it locks you out of things even in the same areas
when its open-world i dont mind
I liked that Exodus had some little mini “linear levels” hidden in the open world
Little linear nuggets for stashes and things
Even the flat Metro games had those safe mini games
You can skip them
But if you see a key, you know there’s a safe nearby
Or if you see a safe, you know there’s a key nearby
I feel like some of those wall-mounted supply cabinets in ITR would be good for that
In the same way that HL:A often has small stashes that require you to pause and observe to get them
But players can slip them if they want
I don’t like how in ITR, if you find a stash, it’s automatically yours
I’d love an extra step(s) to be rewarded
Or I’d love to have to take note of where I found the stash, but come back later with the key or whatever
just put a 4 digit lock on some of the crates
and those ones have better loot (important gunparts/an entire gun
I think it could be a lot of stuff
Like seeing a crate behind a gated room
That needs a key
Or you have to follow a power cable somewhere
To flip the gate lock lever
Or it’s a simple “navigation” puzzle
they could just tease the crate at the end of a linear area
You see the stash, but it takes a while to figure out how to get to it in some way
and then you come back to it naturally
Also, I love simple things like having to reach through something to “force-grab” items from an area that you can’t get inside
like in HLA, the resin pile at a trainstation which you see and come back to an hour later and go "oh yeah i remember that"
Yes!
I wish we had more of that
There is also an area in Metro Exodus where you see a power box behind a locked gate
But you observe a hole in the roof
So you parkour up to the roof
And drop down
And the gate unlocks from the inside
Stuff like that
Simple
There’s also an area in ITR 1.0 bolotky where you can see part of a foundation dug away
To reveal what looks like a basement
So you can find a ladder down
And behind a palette is a hole
If you crawl in the hole, there’s a stash
But I like how Valve does it: they show the player the thing first
And then ask them to observe the area to get to it
perfect example:
instead of grabbing the documents and running
you have to grab the right documents
I'm also obsessed with small things like this:
seems logical that someone would hide a key in a nesting doll
or a clue that says you'll find the key "in the bathrooms"
left by other explorers maybe
the more talk about keys, the more i wanna see a radius-effected key, maybe it takes "key-ring" too literal
one big thing i was dissappointed by was that one note in Bolotky
"im gonna get my things and make him wish he was never born! i will leave a note under the table when i do it"
i go to the hideout in the swamp (which i think is what the note was referring to)
no note under the table
mustaforgot to replace it in 2.0 then
maybe
bummer
I would love it if there was some mechanic around whether or not fires are lit in the zone
like some rudementary communication with another explorer
who you never see
maybe similar to the lit lantern mechanic in TWDSS
you know there is another clue or something left for you
Do not question him
but it wasnt even floating
We kinda already do that
if it isnt floating it isnt radius
Don't question them either
rockstar makes good games but they just cant ever leave it up to the player to figure out
Yes fr
That wouldn't make sense
Why would the UNPSC keep supplies from the people that need them
They're not that evil
Unless 🤔
maybe they lock them so mimics cant get the guns
or non-unspsc changed, they exist
Do not, question the man the myth and the legend
But then how would exploritos get it
You really got Artifacts yappin
idk maybe high-command was like 'shi my fault i ate all the keys
This is his favorite topic
the lore or puzzle mechanics in games?
He is lord of puzzles
Commander of lore
what game is this?
Ghost Town
As in the ghost town itr2 update?

Everything is connected
Sheesh, this place has become such a... Ghost Town
Site Bravo by Tobias Jones
”A Digital Matte Painting depicting a mysterious post-first contact event in Estonia and a reconnaissance team's mission to observe the menacing "Pillars" and collect material samples from the area.”
Why does this sound so familiar?
👀
wait...
''first-contact event in the baltics'' as a setting has happened twice now in video games
I think it's more like 15
It's this
but it's weird that is specifies Estonia
oh, idk what fortnite is
are there baltic aliens?
dont think it is, but im referring to ITR (obviously) and ARMA3's DLC
idk ARMA3
Metro Exodus
Brutalism, my beloved
I would love if stashed weapon parts had that ad-hoc crappy look
the bubba look
stashed receiver
stashed foregrip
stashed stocks with etching
crappy tape or zip ties
a bit "over-the-top" for ITR
but still cool
something to make the stashed parts feel...
feel crappy, but interesting
and different from the store-bought stuff
which I really want for the products as well
ammo boxes... sprats... crackers... chocolate
The aks-74u has a stashes reciever pretty similar to that

This is so eerie
Imagine that one open area in kolkhoz looking like that
It deserved to be something other than endless grey carpet
it needed some vegetation or points of interest
Just wait
Till some sleepless modder remakes the itr1 maps for itr2
I always thought the abandoned farm fields of Kolkhoz would look something like this
with some variation of enclosed vs open
some vistas
but other parts are like corn maze
you don't see a slider or seeker coming
I just never got the sense that I was in farmland
But it's a vintage soviet walkman!
Btw, I just remembered that I think this is the device from Metro that plays tapes
thats 🇲etro the🇲e then, not Radius
But Metro… stalker… zona, pacific drive…
They all fit under my thematic umbrella
HL as well
Anything post-apocalyptic, post-Soviet, quarantine zone… shooter…
Anything vaguely related to radius themes
Is fair game
Tales fro🇲 the loo🇵 count? it has so🇲e ITR-lookin🇬 ele🇲ents
Idk what that is, but anything Simon Stålenhag counts
I have several Stålenhag images in this thread
🇧röther... TFtL is Stalenha🇬's work

Why is bro so evil
🇧ecause he just is? dont question it
He joined Larry’s cadre of villains

But simply men trying to find the inventor of lucky charms

This is mega tuff
That would be fire
Or whatever the youths say these days
i love that
🦀
poor pechorsk outskirts that tried to be inudstrial
You know, it’s possible the devs will keep massaging the POIs in the current maps
that look more residential then anything else
Like, I could see the train yard in the outskirts changing
To be more industrial
Or the devs adding a below grade storm water system
Like the catacombs
oh I think that will defintley happen
still the main poi on oust skirts is apartment blocks
the entire left side of outskirts is basically empty
Yea
Outside the directors office?
the infamous pobeda safehouse
Imagine that and the catacombs underneath some of the urban areas
Just like
Utility tunnels
Here and there
Pump stations
Storm water sewers
Hatch ladders
a nuclear bunker
I like the low key vibe of Pechorsk though
That’s it’s just an everyday place
Not a special military zone or something
Just a mining town
I could see some basic infrastructure areas though
yea what i mean by bunker is like a medium size room that can hold the population of the local area in case of attack
like its just there its not a out post or anything
I see
Makes sense
I think the outskirts rim should be a little more industrial
Like where the train yard is
By rim…
I mean the big whole
Whole…
I mean hole
🤦♂️
yea i think the red hole was where the quary was that or like a smaller quary
Yea I would really really really like to see the outskirt shole worked upon more in the coming major updates
like why does it exist!??!!?!?!?
its so big it has to have a reason to exist
In the early leaked version of the map there were atleast like huge buildings that were floating in the middle of it
also what the cube doin
I mean now we have the island but it just still doesn't seem enough
why is he here
cube doin his own thing
he's just y'know
Dylan'ing around
that would be vewy vewy intewesting
Or else
\
You are planting seeds in my mind that will not leave me alone
WE NEED THIS
The final mission requires you climb the Pechorsk TV tower to find the way into the Pechorsk Sewers which is the only passage into the final building, the Zvezda factory complex
Is this fact or fiction
It’s hopium
the "Or else" is modders beating them to the chase
No, it's me making another 700 AI gifs of mimics doing the griddy

this would be so cool in VR
I really like the survival horror vibes of VR games with flashlights that go out
if you don't maintain them
like Saints & Sinners
Metro
Propagation Paradise Hotel
it also gives you a reason to use your light less
when you don't really need it on
I do really love the analog interaction of the flashlights in Saints & Sinners (shake the light) and Metro (crank the light)
they don't require you to like... find batteries or anything
the interactions are simple enough
but they just add to those survival horror vibes
Why is the only interaction we have reloading
And nests
We NEED something

this is the way

at least the explorers poke anomalies with a probe
what is a probe but a stick with range
Someones gotta recreate this photo on the PCVR version
if ya want I can show you where it is on the map
Sure
@signal hearth here ya go, the photo was taken on the hill, on the corner of the apartment building
awesome sauce thank you
can't wait to see it

Idk
Ok it is LIM but it’s for unlimited frequencies
Another weird thing is that it’s also a unit of measurement
So you can have a value of unlimited frequencies
Weird

Yoooo I play that game
did you play the DLC?
I played a lot of the base game
but not the DLC yet
A bit but school got in the way
I'm waiting for the DLC to go on sale
I haven't played since they dropped the endless expeditions update
and I rage quit
The dlc gives more of a heart rate increase than the normal games does
Wait it’s in vr?
What is uevr
Universal Unreal Engine VR mod
makes any UE 4 or5 game playable in VR
I still use mouse and keyboard though
I play it just like a flatscreen game, but I'm IN it
It takes a little bit of learning
Ngl tho it would translate to be really well
there's also a whole discord community for it
on the "flatscreen to VR modding community" discord
theres whole channels for UEVR
and threads for certain games
like Pacific Drive
some content creators have made videos about Pacific Drive in UEVR too
I think it was the first game to get me started in UEVR
Stray in UEVR is breathtaking
STRAY IN UEVR???
I think I’m gonna vommit just from the concept
Man I should try uevr
Do you think HLA runs in UEVR?
I’ve always wanted to see city 17 in my headset
You aren’t in the cat, you are like an invisible angel piloting a remote-controlled cat
Oh so you become B12?
Sort of like that
It’s just like flatscreen, but you are in the room too
I’ve heard of native 3rd person VR games
But never played them
I have one.
Very disorienting
Called Firezone, I think
Small game, made by one guy
is it perhaps about a zone that can be described as fire
Yeah idk
I think itr works in UEVR
Idk about the second one
Holy black arms from itr1
We need thoise things back
Black arms the bodies, the black grass, all of that stuff adds so much character
No... it's kinda mid
can you please laugh
Blatant asset flip last time I played
We out here driving pacifically
mans standing there
that's one of the ladies
yelling at a guy about planting food
so they don't starve
mans as in the term for a singular person
