These look sick! Just a heads up for future skin concepts if you want to do patterns, only one color (the pattern color) can move when making them, you have a few colors moving for these so theyd have to be separate skins!

For example, you could use the white as your pattern layer over the first red image and move the white anywhere per pattern, but not the dark red!

It’s not really, just have one layer for the base few and one layer for the patterns, then you can modify, add to, remove from or completely redo the pattern layer

Giving yourself other things to work off of on your base colors for the other patterns helps a lot too

Spino is one that can have a lot of fun with Arapaima skins. Since merging it based off a fish can be harder, why not isolate the red in the form of more anatomy highlights?

Example being focusing the red on different parts of the body rather than the overall? Example being patterning the tail, spine and crest using the reddish pink making it a bit more simple but effective.

Tail could have the stripey think pattern and the spine sould even have thicker spine stripes or accents at the top perhaps 🙏

A lot of it is different brushes and utilizing like a billion layers, "smear" brushes help a good bit

Some of my concepts have gone up to 17 layers lmao

Helps to focus on different patterns without damaging other parts of the skin, depending on the drawing app you use and the tools it offers

brushes!! I dont do pot skins but i am a reptile artist
anyways its about the texture! A reptile isnt going to be smooth, so a clean cut hard airbrush isnt a good idea! You’re gonna wanna use texture brushes, ones with frayed edges and such. For example, the old/dry brushes on procreate blend and mix really well! The entire painting section of procreates brushes are really good actually
