They are side missions you get from Richtofen in hard mode day 4 and 5 of course during the day. These side missions include killing the butcher or destroying a giant aether crystal.

But the most EASY way to win hard mode, is to just kill necromancers. The only thing making hard mode hard is the necromancer.
They are floating purple jellyfish people that basically turn zombies into tanks. For example, imagine you're doing 100 damage per shot. But there's a necromancer, so now you do 12-14 damage per shot.

The necromancers have pretty little health, but their impact on the game is massive. They usually stay around the middle or back of the horde.
Always kill necromancers first even if the base is being attacked. Also they die to a single DLQ33/Locus shot so there's that
