So, for example, say you're 50 shards short and you can't unlock Striker before it goes away

You keep what you already have, but you have to then unlock the new replacement weapon before you can earn the rest of the universal shards you'd need to have enough to exchange for the Striker.

Since the new caches would only contain shards for the new weapon, not Striker anymore. Once you unlock a cache weapon, any additional shards you would've earned are automatically converted to Universal shards which can then be exchanged for shards of a gun you don't have yet, either new or old.

Like I unlocked Lava Remix ages ago, but I kept opening caches. Instead of giving me more 117 shards I don't need, they gave me universal mythic shards which I can now use when the new weapon drops. I've got over 1k of those lol

Any additional unused shards for past weapons can also be converted to Universal shards. Like when I unlocked cr56 amax, I opened enough caches at once that I went over 200 before I unlocked

So I had like 5 spare amax shards. Instead of them going to waste, I converted them to universal shards. So now I can use them for whatever.

Or like if you get a bunch of Striker shards, but not enough to unlock the weapon... Then It turns out you don't want the striker after all, I'm pretty sure you can convert those to Universal also and put them toward a different cache weapon. Haven't tried it but I think that's possible.

Also, there's a strong chance that there will be a limit to how many shards can be exchanged for the new AGR. Whenever they drop a new cache legendary, they put a cap on how many universal shards can be exchanged before unlocking it. We don't know yet, but I'm assuming the mythic will be the same.

Like Striker dropped, I had a ton of universal shards but I could only exchange enough to earn me 100 Striker shards, I had to earn the other hundred from opening caches. All legendaries have been that way so far I think.

So assuming they cap it at 50% total, we could potentially only exchange for 250 AGR shards, and have to earn the rest through caches as usual. This is just my guess, I don't know what they'll actually do since a mythic hasn't been replaced before now.

You'd have to look, idk the exact numbers rn, but for example: It's a 1:1 exchange for the first 20 (or however many) shards. After that is used, then it's 2:1 for the next X number of shards (meaning 2 universal gets you 1 shard for the gun), then 3:1 up to so many.
