Easiest and most evident example I can give you is gun models and skins, a lot of attachments or even parts of the gun themselves are on separate UV sheets for texturing, and aren't matching texel density-wise. So game ends up caching in multiple sheets of textures when it could've been done on one. And that's just for one model out of plenty in the scene
