3.5" Drone Shopping Advice

#

I was previously warned against getting a no name FC, so I think this one from Skystars seems more trustworthy

#

I was recommended to get F1604 motors, but the closest I could find was F1404, I think this will still be fine??? does 2 mm in stator diameter make that much of a difference?

meager ridge
#

how big is that stack? looks 30x30 which you don't want

#

the motors might be a bit weak but it should fly fine

#

you don't need a dual-band receiver probably

#

that antenna is for 1.3ghz, get a foxeer lolipop or rush cherry or truerc core or singularity

livid crow
#

also for that frame i think 1804s are recommended, its pretty heavy so 1404s might not be powerful enough. i feel like you should at least get 1604s if not 1804s

#

also pretty sure the stack uses xt-30 not xt-60

#

and don’t get the frame with the o4 mounting if you wanna do a rattel cam, get the normal frame

#

also do u really need a dual band receiver? like can your radio even do 900 MHz

bright lava
#

should it be sub-250

visual tangle
#

1604 is fine

livid crow
#

aren’t they what FF recommends?

visual tangle
#

It’s a 4S build

#

1804 is unnecessary weight

bright lava
#

1404 is to small for 3.5

#

use the tmotor 1604 4s edition

mild bear
#

just an fyi, emax uses 1404s on their babyhawk 2

visual tangle
#

Why are you using emax as reference

mild bear
#

lol

#

it works on that drone 🙂

river jackal
#

would probably fly as well as a babyhawk aswell

mild bear
#

hm i was under the impression that the babyhawk flew well

#

We are very excited to help announce the launch of the EMAX Babyhawk 2 HD RTF drone. It's an amazing little build with a lot of potential both in long range and freestyle. With a smaller, 850 mah battery, you'll be able to rip for 6-8 minutes, but with a liion pack, you can run it for up to 20 minutes.

some good freestyle clips there

#

some people do use 1404 on lighter 3.5"

feral ibex
#

Check local stores for example for me they were about the same price and I got them next day

livid crow
#

that person was probably sent it for free for review

#

you can see they have an affilate link. also they're saying it flys for 20 min which it just objectivley doesn't

#

also not particularly comparable since that frame is WAY lighter than the voaldor he's planning on using

#

what size should I be looking for in a 3.5" drone?

weary stratus
#

^^ im thinking of using these motors instead then

#

oh okay

livid crow
#

1604s at 3450 kV would be good on 4s

weary stratus
#

got it, ill look for 1604s

#

this looks like a good fit

livid crow
#

lol that's EXACTLY what i was about to send

weary stratus
#

its 1 pc per shopper

#

😭

livid crow
#

yea, so get 4 or 5

weary stratus
#

Im gunna have a mismatched drone of 4 wildly different motors

livid crow
#

what?

#

just order 5 of the same motor?

weary stratus
livid crow
#

wait wat

#

what site is this?

weary stratus
#

ali express

livid crow
#

#

weary stratus

livid crow

livid crow

#

it's not working

#

go to faq and to comprehensive list of fpv retailers

weary stratus
#

okay

livid crow
#

there

weary stratus
#

oooo

livid crow
#

and shipping will be WAY faster since it's domestic

meager ridge
weary stratus
#

this is a game changer

weary stratus
livid crow
#

distance between them

weary stratus
#

ah okay

livid crow
#

just get a 20x20 stack and you'll be fine with that frame if i remember correctly

weary stratus
#

ill give that a shot

livid crow
#

it should also say in the description of the frame

weary stratus
weary stratus
#

oh nice!

#

I'm probably going to rechoose a whole bunch of parts based on domestic suppliers then

#

is there a spec in a drone frame that says what the spacing between the screw holes are?

#

or is it trial and error to know what size FC fits with what frame size?

meager ridge
#

The description of the frame will say

hot osprey
# weary stratus oooo

just heads up that rotorev is shutting down slowly so it would be good to order soon for those from them

#

that's a good deal on them for sure though

slate aspen
#

i assume you already moved to 1604/away from 1404 but i build a 1404 3 inch and its a tad bit underpowered

#

if i had built with a lighter frame/toothpick it would have been perfect

livid crow
slate aspen
#

yea

visual tangle
#

Lighter then the volador

livid crow
#

wait i thought this was the volador?

#

in the description that’s what he said

mild bear
#

makes sense that 1404s arent enough for heavier builds

#

btw, babyhawk 2 does fly 20 minutes with lion pack

bright lava
#

for 3.5 you should get 1804 not 1604 thats for 3inch quads

visual tangle
#

They are heavy and don’t offer any benefit over 1604s for lightweight builds

slate aspen
#

everything darwinfpv is crap

mild bear
#

yes very true

#

im replacing the motors on my babyape 2 with tmotor 1604 3800kvs

#

finally started burning motors out in races and decided it was too much lol

#

apparently they cant handle sustained loads, or hold the shaft in place without glue
