#What drone is this? What should I buy?

I'm very inexperienced with drones (have limited experience using them) and I saw this reel https://www.instagram.com/reel/DBj76qQRDSB/?igsh=X2ZnOUJ5bVo2 -- what drone is this? If I were to buy it, is there something else I should account into buying? i.e. FPV googles etc.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Molestando personas con mi droncito en el 10mo aniversario de @localsupport , paseando por @chizpahongos y @elreydelpanini

As a bonus question: obviously since it's an FPV drone I should first get accustomed with some kind of simulator, but are these drones easy to break/lose? Despite their sizes, are they sturdy or easy to find?

digital tangle
#

in all honesty my internet is so bad rn that I can't identify that specific one PepeKEKhands but that type of drone would be a "tinywhoop." Good news is that they're the cheapest type (for both the drone and the related equipment)

digital tangle
# warped juniper As a bonus question: obviously since it's an FPV drone I should first get accust...

FPV drones in general are super tough, but tinywhoops, due to being so light and kinda slow, are nearly indestructible.

Crashes are a part of learning to fly, especially if you really push your skill, but ideally you as the pilot would be able to discern whether or not a situation is safe to fly in. i.e. if you're brand new to flying and may crash, don't take a large quad into a crowded area. Or, if you're really pushing the maximum range on a new drone build, don't fly it over water or over tall grassy fields, over houses etc. in case you lose it

#

Larger ones can be built with a GPS that will effectively give you a rough "last seen" location, and you can also install a really loud beeper on it that automatically activates under certain conditions

#

Tinywhoops are nice and small but also not great outdoors unless there's very little wind. The location in the reel was doable because (a) it's kinda indoors/protected from wind, (b) the pilot is obv pretty skilled at very slow, accurate flying, and (c) (i assume) everyone around the drone gave permission to be flown around

#

In terms of equipment - you'd need the tinywhoop itself, goggles, a transmitter (aka "radio", the controller thing), some lipo's (short for Lithium Polymer, the type of battery we usually us), and a good charger

#

This can be had for a little over 300USD. 350-400 would be comfortable

#

If you have to cheap out, cheap out on your first drone, as you'll likely build/buy more in the future. The radio/goggles stick with you forever (or, until you just want to upgrade) so don't cheap out on them. Spend a good amount on the charger too - this is especially true for larger chargers when you get into largr drones and use larger batteries. These things can catch fire violently if you mistreat them.

#

If you want to fly more outdoors or carry a gopro, then you'll want to look into something larger than a tinywhoop - although these are more expensive and need much more space to fly, and can be far more dangerous if you're irresponsible with them

warped juniper
#

Thank you very much for the answers, seriously, very insightful 🙂 I'm taking a look at the shopping list right now to decide what to get. And thanks for the intro to the basics!

#

I'm assuming tinywhoops aren't subject to GPS regulation? Like they can fly where DJIs can't (not looking to go in shady places, but my city is basically off limits because there's a private airport short of 5 km nearby)

digital tangle
#

for legal reasons this is purely a theoretical opinion

#

I mean, definitely don't do anything clearly stupid ofc

#

to answer your question KEKw basically no

#

The GPSs I mentioned in terms of recovering a crashed drone are purely just to receive data and give you coordinates. They're not the same as rID modules or any tracking thing, totally separate

#

Tinywhoops are so tiny that it's impractical to even include a GPS on them

#

besides, it's not like you're really gonna be flying a tinywhoop far out enough to need a GPS to recover it

#

Technically, any drone flying indoors is not under the FAA's authority

#

and for the most part you usually won't get any complaints flying your tinywhoop around a park, if you're not bothering anyone. although some ppl have bad luck with karens ofc

warped juniper
#

Fair enough

#

Thank you very much again 🙂

digital tangle
#

oh, last bit, make sure to get the ELRS version of drone and transmitter (better, cheaper), and get the Cobra X gogs (whichever version people recommend nowadays) over the EV800Ds if you can

#

and i think that's about the entirety of getting into FPV KEKw

warped juniper
#

Will do

#

Thanks

#

🙂

#

Oh by the way

#

What is Walksnail vs Analog? Goggle types or what?

sudden rampart
#

analog is simple, pretty much everything works with everything if the connectors match

#

walksnail is one of the couple digital systems, and you have to be more careful about what works with what

#

its a lot better image quality, but heavier and often more expensive

digital tangle
#

It's basically the video system, the line of components that gets the video from the drone's camera to the screen on your face. This includes the camera, VTX (video transmitter), and the goggles.

Analog used to be the only system not long ago. It doesn't look as pretty but it's universal among all other analog equipment and it gets the job done

Walksnail is one of the available digital video systems. More expensive, looks better etc. I've heard it's harder to get digital systems on tinywhoops although i'm not sure if that's still true. I don't know much about digital so I'd have to pass that off to someone else

#

@sudden rampart I'll let you take over from here as I'm still an analog pleb KEKw

lol

warped juniper
#

Haha, that's all I needed to know. Thanks guys peepoglad

sudden rampart
#

no problem

warped juniper
#

Sorry again, I am browsing around for the goggles and it seems that Eachine EV800D on BangGood can be purchased with just the goggles, along with a NTSC camera or a Triple Feed Patch antenna

#

I'm guessing the NTSC camera is not needed as there's one in the drone already and perhaps the antenna is to improve/amplify signal -- am I correct in this?

sudden rampart
#

the camera will probably suck and the antenna might be ok

#

im pretty sure the ev800d comes with AWFUL dipole antennas, youll want a CP and patch antenna to go with them

#

the patch youre talking about might be ok, im not sure

#

take a look at the cobra x goggles, theyre much better

warped juniper
#

Thanks 🙂

sudden rampart
#

no problemo

#

antennas are fairly confusing so feel free to ask away about them

#

The description says Connector Compatible for 300mAh/450mAh/500mAh/600mAh however I'm not sure if 550 mAh would also be compatible and maybe they forgot it/is obvious?

#

Actually it looks like Vifly WhoopStor V3 is good as well but idk if it supports those batteries

digital tangle
#

The capacity does matter - you'll want to get one that is well matched for the drone

#

(mainly so that you don't get one that is too heavy for it)

#

but for charger and drone compatability you'll want to look at the plug which should be a male/female of either PH2.0 or BT2.0, the latter of which is much better and well worth getting

#

and yeah upon quick search...

#

looks like the betafpv charger is indeed one of their trash products lol

#

the WHOOPSTOR would be much better

Thank you very much for the answers 🙂

Here's what I got:

  • BetaFPV Air75 + 4 batteries included
  • RadioMaster Pocket
  • Vifly WhoopStor V3
  • Eachine EV800D

I had to compromise between quality and my limited budget that's why I settled on the Eachine EV800D and the RadioMaster Pocket. Hopefully it's a nice setup to get started 🙂 Thanks again

oblique sable
#

so dont worry about it lol

warped juniper
#

Either way I'm very, very new to this so I don't know what to expect lol

oblique sable
#

i hope my air 65 arives tomorrow

warped juniper
#

Nice 🙂

hearty dune
#

and what batteries are coming with it? if it's the blue betafpv ones they're kinda bad

warped juniper
#

AliExpress, Amazon for the charger and BangGood for the headset

hearty dune
#

ah, shipping will take a while, has to go by boat

#

buy the drone without batteries

#

you're in the US?

warped juniper
#

eu

hearty dune
#

which EU

warped juniper

italy

hearty dune
#

the lava batteries are good

warped juniper
#

they were included in the store page

#

like, bundled

hearty dune
#

ah

warped juniper
#

hopefully it's the actual lava batteries and not the blue ones lol

hearty dune
#

how much was the whoopstor on amazon?

warped juniper
#

~39 usd

hearty dune
#

in euros?

warped juniper

hearty dune
#

that's below what the italian fpv stores are selling it for, wow

warped juniper
#

ah nice 🙂

hearty dune
#

usually it's the opposite

warped juniper

i highly recommend spare frames, props, and (if you don’t have a 3d printer) canopies

Got this setup thanks to the Discord 🙂

Not in the pic: WhoopStor V3 and Eachine EV800DM yet to arrive

It sucks that they forgot to include the 4 batteries in the package, oh well!

Highly recommend picking up a copy of Velocidrone and the Tiny Whoop DLC. (Velocidrone.com)

Your radio will plug into your PC, and you can use it in Velocidrone to practice your flying (and try out other quads). 💛

warped juniper
lusty echo
#

There are many that try, but Velocidrone has the best physics simulation by a country mile. Physics of the sim > all else.

#

They have your quad in the tiny whoop DLC too. Was added last week 😄

warped juniper
#

If so, there’s no Air 75, only 65 Racing or 65 Freestyle

lusty echo
warped juniper
#

Oh shoot. Know any other good simulator that might have it?

lusty echo
#

At your level, you won't likely notice the difference, to be fair.

#

It'll still teach you what you need to know to fly it well 🙂

warped juniper
#

thought it was fundamentally different

#

thank you 🙂

lusty echo
#

The 75mm version has slightly more thrust, but weighs a little more.

#

You could probably fake it by tweaking the mass and thrust sliders on the 65mm version, thinking about it.

warped juniper
#

Some updates: the Lava batteries have the wrong connector (XT30 instead of PH2.0 or BT2.0) and I’m setting up the EV800DM. While I’m awaiting for the 18650 batteries because I realized too late that they weren’t included in the RadioMaster Pocket lol

lusty echo
#

What drone are those batteries intended for?

warped juniper
lusty echo
#

The Air75 uses 1s packs, they're 2s.

#

You hook up one of those batteries, you're gonna fry the drone.

#

Did you order those ones, or have they sent you the wrong ones?

warped juniper
#

I ordered other batteries from Ali because they were bundled with the drone, but only the drone arrived, so I ordered these from Amazon

#

How do you know the difference at a glance?

lusty echo
#

The label on the lipo gives voltage

warped juniper
#

Oh I see

lusty echo
#

Also, the number of conductors in the balance lead, which shouldn't be there at all on a 1s pack.

#

Number of leads in the balance connector - 1 = cell count.

#

Since you got those from Amazon, you can send em back though 😉

warped juniper
#

Yup, that’s what I’m gonna do. Thank you very much, I would probably have fried the drone lol

lusty echo
#

Happy to help 💛

warped juniper
#

How do I know if I should connect it to RHCP or LHCP?

lusty echo
#

Depends what's on the VTx sending the signal.

#

Right Handed Circular Polarisation, or Left Handed.

#

The "chirality" of nature is a very deep rabbit hole, if you fancy losing a day or two. 😁

warped juniper
#

thank you 🙂

lusty echo
#

In fact, it'll likely be a lightweight linear dipole antenna on the Air75, so it won't matter which polarity you use.

warped juniper
#

Much better 🙂

#

now waiting for the 18650s for the transmitter and I’m good to go

warped juniper
#

Got everything and now practicing on Velocidrone. Thank you very much again!

This is probably what I should have done instead of building a 5” NGL.
