#5" Cuts Out When Upside-Down

I bought and built the analog version of Bardwell's QAV-S 2 5" build kit about 6 months ago and have had this problem the whole time. At first I thought using too much throttle was the issue, but I disproved that today when I worked my way up to doing ~70% runs over a large field without issue. This was my first time flying again in a couple of months because I got busy with school. The success of the high throttle runs led me to try doing some maneuvers in the open air. I did a split S type move and noticed that while I was upside down sticks weren't responding correctly. I then tried a full stick deflection roll, and I lost all control. The video did not cut out, however. I'm currently thinking it is the FC, either software or hardware. Any Ideas?

I don’t really have a good way to, sorry. I can try recording the goggles with my phone and try to recreate it los.

On a side note, is this Lipo ok? Can I keep using it if I tape it or should I find some big heat shrink

on the second front roll, it shows the right stick going full left, but I didn’t do that.

that was also when I lost control

That lipo is fine to use and re-wrap most likely.
SMELL IT, yes that sounds odd but do it.
If it smells like sweet similar to juicy fruit gum, then a cell is punctured and that cell is no longer safe.

But if it's not punctured then it's safe to use, and would asvide you re-wrap it with something.
Tape is OK, or heat shrink.

The next time you charge it DO NOT LEAVE THE ROOM.
Watch it, if it doesn't heat up while charging then you are OK.

Is your voltage calibrated correctly?
You maybe just had low battery thus had no power to recover after the flips.
You started on a essentially empty battery.
We don't see any side in particular dip in the DVR so it does't stand out as as a desync or other failure.

Might just practice that kinda stuff in sim more also, could be learning curve.
Try learing that stuff with a bit more altitude if u can which will give you more recovery time.

the 3.6 voltage readout is incorrect because i’m using a pair of googles that came with my old tbs tiny whoop nano. the real voltage is in the beta flight osd above that.

#

It’s hard to see in discord, but the pack started at 4.23 v and only sagged to 4.02 during the video

#

I was also flying line of sight because I have no good way to record dvr.

Well it does not seem to loose power or RC connection at the time it fell.
So that suggests no major wiring or power issues cutout wise.

I’ve also got this going for me

It sounds like what you might be describing is the PID loop disabling at idle throttle

sorry, i’m out of state right now so I can’t check. however, when I arm the quad at zero throttle, the props spin up. does this prove air mode is on or not? I wouldn’t have intentionally turned off air mode.

#

Just got home, and confirmed that air mode is enabled, both in beta flight and by testing in the real world with props off

#

i’m about to try flashing the fc to the latest firmware from beta flight.

finally got it updated to 4.5, and upon testing, I have the exact same problem. I tried to do a side roll and it just gave up as soon as I got upside down. It also smoked a motor this time around. Any ideas? I'm about to buy a whole new FC/ESC stack if I can't figure this out.
