#Mobula 7 1s range issues

When I get around 20-30m away or have a few walls between me (flying around the outside of the house) my mob 7 will loose all RX. The video stays but no control and will just drop out the air. Any ideas? I have the ELRS 1s version and a RadioMaster zorro. It’s not my radio as I fly a 3” just fine with it so I think the mob 7 is the issue.

I’ve seen Nathan loops take his miles away and be just fine so that’s why idk what’s up.

I’m thinking maybe something needs updating or smth but I have no idea

Increase OUTPUT POWER

If you haven't changed it, it probably set to 25mw

gaunt fiber
#

Oh right ok, is that the thing u do over WiFi

rocky nimbus
#

No

#

Look it up im at work atm

gaunt fiber
#

How?

#

Oh I remember

rocky nimbus
#

100mw is the legal limit outside the US

gaunt fiber
#

Yea I’ll bump it up to that

#

Just plug drone in and launch the ELRS app thingy

# rocky nimbus Ye

My radio is fine, I can fly my 3” as far as I can before the video breaks up. My mob 7 will just drop at 20m

#

I’m pretty sure it’s on 100

rocky nimbus
#

Check your antenna is still there. Looks something like this

gaunt fiber
#

Yea I’m thinking that could be the issue lol I can’t remember if I’ve seen it recently 😂

#

I’ll have a look when I get home. Can I get a replacement if it’s gone?

rocky nimbus
#

Well... Yeah, but actually replacing it is a different story

gaunt fiber
#

Or can I just put a new receiver in it

#

I think the board has a UART spare

gaunt fiber
#

I read something about soldering on a piece of copper wire

gaunt fiber
#

There’s a little UART there I could use

#

Welp now I know, seems easy ish to fix

daring tusk
#

Dont add another receiver

gaunt fiber
#

And which pad there’s 4?

#

Oh is it the slightly blue one

gaunt fiber
#

Sorry what’s a trace?

daring tusk
#

The little things on the pcb that carry signal and power like a wire would

gaunt fiber
#

Oh right ok

gaunt fiber
daring tusk
#

Enamel wire, aka magnet wire, is enameled. Meaning it has a thin coating to prevent shorts

gaunt fiber
#

Awww

#

Thought I was onto something 😂

daring tusk
#

Ive used normal 32 gauge wire before in a pinch

#

Just look up the oscar liang diy antenna article

gaunt fiber
daring tusk
#

Its good to have on hand for shit like this, especially if you fly whoops a lot

#

If you live near a hardware store and need it fast they probably have it

gaunt fiber
#

Eh it is what it is. It flys just fine without it the range is just shitty

gaunt fiber
#

I have 2 that I’d never use sooo

daring tusk
gaunt fiber
#

So could I makeshift an ELRS antenna outta it somehow

daring tusk
#

The exposed element at the top is probably long enough to cut into a diy monopole actually

gaunt fiber
#

Sick

daring tusk
#

Just look up the length first, and leave a little extra to go into the solder

gaunt fiber
#

It’s like 32mm

daring tusk
#

Sounds right to me

gaunt fiber
#

This is 31

gaunt fiber
#

Well better than none

daring tusk
#

That black wire is shielding, then a layer of grounding wire, then that white wire underneath

#

You definitely have enough length in that antenna to do it right

gaunt fiber
#

The long black wire?

daring tusk
#

Yeah

#

The wite part goes all the way through it

gaunt fiber
#

So measure 32 and have one end exposed to solder

daring tusk
#

Under that silver stranded wire should be the white wire

daring tusk
#

Yeah, first extract that white wire from the rest

gaunt fiber
daring tusk
#

Now expose a little bit of the wire inside that, pre tin it, then measure the 32.whatever of shielding after that and you have your diy monopole

daring tusk
#

Yeah

gaunt fiber
#

Their tiny af

daring tusk
#

You didnt remove the clear shielding right?

gaunt fiber
#

Maybe I did lol

daring tusk
#

The wire makeup is signal wires, clear shielding, grounding wires, black shielding

gaunt fiber
#

I’ve got loads nw

daring tusk
#

You should have only removed the grounding layer and black layer

gaunt fiber
daring tusk
#

Yeah

gaunt fiber
daring tusk
#

Now treat it like any other wire and solder it up

#

Looks good

gaunt fiber
#

Lovely

#

Hang on a sec, can you tell me which pad it is if I send a better picture?

gaunt fiber
#

@daring tusk

#

Well I think it’s them

gaunt fiber
#

Done it I’ll test it next week thx for the help

daring tusk
#

Not enough detail

gaunt fiber
#

sorted it now cheers

gaunt fiber
# daring tusk I cant tell from the photo

I take it i don’t need to ground the antenna? I cut it so the solder point is as small as possible and there’s not exposed wire at the top. And I poked it through the canopy so it doesn’t hang around on the board
