#3.5" 6s freestyle quad

like look at this stuff
It’s a pain
More parking spaces needed 🗣️
these are absurdly big
Why is it so bigggg
kilometers and kilometers of empty parking lots and stores that barely stay open
nah coming from the Netherlands this stuff is awesome
dead infrastructure everywhere = infinite space to fly FPV
that specific parking lot
has 1 grocery store on it which at a time only attracts at max 20 cars at a time
In my village there is literally no parking space
the rest is always empty
Going to an industrial complex on the weekend is SO dope
out today i saw like
a giant factory that recently closed
with beeg open parking lots and working lights
thinking of going there at some point
but flying at home right now is awesome too
just my sleeping schedule is garbage so flying at 2am on a parking lot is great
Right now the cows have taken over the place where I usually fly so …
eh
hell yeah
if the farmer is okay with it you could probably fly there if you introduce the quad to the cows
yeah no
you need to keep in mind that cows are literally just giant dogs that are interested in everything
quads are cow magnets
Holy moly this thing is quick lol. Gets a bit feedbacky in some conditions. Need to tune that out.
Just deserted on the weekends; crammed on weekdays
Don’t crash that drone on the parking lot tho
especially ebcause it's bottom mount lol
SO gets to fly and she's already smacked it into pavement
she's getting better fast though
I managed to break a frame when I was only flying in fields I do not want to imagine flying over concrete
this thing is scary fast what the heck
Did you see the Red Bull aka Dutch drone gods drone ?
yeah
Incredible
yes it made me really sad that they claimed it was the first and that it was a new idea
Def wasn’t the first
ohh. 👏 that is great improvement
this country is dum as heck
there's car dealers here that just park their cars on giaaant parking lots
oh, those are the lightest props I have, too, 2.5" pitch 😂
and every other 2 parking spaces there's the brightest light known to humanity
the light pollution is stupid
yeah hate that
i am excited for road trip
In France every public lights goes off at 23:00
going to go across the states and get shitty drone footage everywhere
Do you have mountains in America
In the place you live
I don't live here
don't get me deported
lol but no Wisconsin is flat
it used to be just giant ice glaciers and stuff so it basically just carved it flat or rolling hills
I won't dare like fly anywhere where I could actually lose this quad
but I will have mountains in the footage for sure
just ordered a bunch more props which will be fun to try
Oo
month long road trip, bound to be alongside mountains
and hundreds of miles from humans
lol
@white rivet thank you by the way
these have been AWESOME
Mountains are great
Except when you lose your drone in them
there's some reallyyy pretty valleys we drove through last time
on the other side giant cliff with river at bottom
and then more mountainy stuff
I'd have more quads if Walksnail wasn't so pricey
I got some « nice « analog💀💀 eve of some snowy mountains
But analog Dave are never nice
And GoPro didn’t have battery that day
Hate when that happens
I'd build a long range quad if they didn't cost money smh
who would want to sponsor the idot that only smashes into trees
not in stock
I don't have a license lol
how did these come out?
a bit plasticky, and probably pink
wowie
I hate tpu

prusa moment
boowomp
😖
luften is reichtig
I just dried mine with the hotplade + filiment box method last night. it came out great.
stock firmware?
and can you send it gcode commands?
probably
I see where you're going with that. Cats, you're brilliant!
M190 S70 ; Wait for temp
G4 S 43200 ; Wait 12 hours
M140 S0 ; Set temp to 0C
M190 S0 ; Wait for temp```
feed it this
you can change the G4 S XXXXX to whatever seconds you want
im just following this
https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/english-forum-original-prusa-i3-mk4-hardware-firmware-and-software-help/disable-30-minute-heatbed-timeout-on-mk4/
I'm trying to dry some PETG using the "box on heatbed" trick, but the damn thing keeps turning off every half hour. Is there a way to bypass this, pre...
I'll do that if the next attempt fails
P<n> is for milliseconds
Faa agent be wilding
zip ties?
probably yeah
:/

wdym
that looks correct
it's so annoying
should be easy to just slice off the part that interferes. really you only need about half of those tubes that go over the standoffs, but if you slice it down the back, it should still look good 😄
yeah that
Just flew 12 minutes cruising on a 930mAh pack in freezing cold
at midnight with no lights lol
what'd your voltage bounce back to
3.8 landing at 3.48 or so
Definitely had more than enough power too
It was a very different flying experience for me
Pitch black outside and trying to be suuper quiet to not bother anyone
Flowers?
Flowers
Hell yeah. Just got 3 myself
They're awesome
Sweet
Had to change them to xt60s
Yep about to go through the same pain. Need to extend the wires too 😭
GNB's soldering is infinitely worse than that of the Tattu R-Lines
It's frustrating
hmm interesting
Well, connector-side i'm seeing no heresies
Just gonna splice so can't speak for tab side
my negative was barely soldered on
and it used shitty foggy solder
Haven't done the other battery
lead free is basically impossible to get shiny so
well apparently not
not deducting points there
and mine have been fine so far quantity of solder wise
ahh is so wonderfully jank
man I thought the balance wire would be short enough
but chunks of it missing
how the hell do you tie that down
It's part of holding the balance lead up out of the way, why my main batt leads are so long
urg
#ifitworksit'snotstupid
😆
I have a lot of propwash and camera shake and I don't know what to do about it
betaflight version?
probably latest
i need a concrete answer
well gee I'm trying to rinse my battery and drone
it's better on brand new props and the camera mount moves around a lot
but there's always prop wash
yeah i have been thinking all along that the camera mounts are shite
better off doing them slightly differently i think
I don't know what to do about it
send me the length and diameter and centre distance of the standoffs
and I can finagle my current ws cam mounts into those dims
how tall is one standoff. How wide is one standoff. And how far are they apart (ideally from centre to centre)
woo I can do that
you have a 19mm cam ye?
probably, wish you could google this stuff
yeah looks like it from your pics
boop @mint tree
failing

how clean dirt off
Ok
I would like from you
One flight's worth of blackbog log
at 2kHz rate
with debug mode gyro_sample
2kHz is not an option in the gui
want a bit of hovering, bit of steady level flight, snap moves in each axis, some throttle punches, and some propwash induction (punch, float, reverse, immediately punch again) as well as your regular freestyle or whatever you want
oh do you have a bmi270
great.
make sure the flash is empty beforehand
and dvr to go along with would be great
it'll be a bit before I can fly
not quite
😩
my gnb battery is growing
That’s bad
it's young it has some room to grow
it uh
filled up the whole thing
yikes
also with these 2.5 pitch props I couldn't get it to prop wash as hard
@brittle jolt
what doesn't work
open it in a proper browser maybe
in the log? i need to know when that is so I can avoid including it in t he data
yeah
ugh i thought gyro unfiltered was included by default now
Ah well yes that'll doer
That's a strong frame resonance at about 40 Hz in the roll axis
3:54 I hit a branch and 5:04 I got stuck
Cool. Excluding everything past 3:50ish the waterfall plot stays the same
Which validates the plot.
plot?

the question is. What the fuck went so wrong
so we need to have a look at the mechanicals of the build a bit
well you already know the weird messed up parts
Need some pics of it like. In flying configuration.
Batt plugged in, strapped on, all
jeez
For now, try changing D gains to about 0.65
That should put a patch over the issue.
But this really is something we should get to the root cause of... that's quite compromised
If you can figure out in the blackbox settings to make sure Gyro Unfiltered is logged
because for some reason it isn't here
having that raw data would be good.
But that those two resonant modes got past the filters
😬
Not loving the missing bolt straight out of the gate lmao but i do believe it's gonna be the VTX antenna causing problems
What kinda battery pad is that?
ummagrip that came with the thing
there's also 1 missing motor screw but I doubt that'd do anything
Seeing resonance spill over across axes which implies the thing vibrating can do so freely in multiple axes...
so I think we start by beefing up mounting for the VTX antenna
But I really want to see gyro unfiltered.
Generally, encasing the thing in solid plastic tends to work pretty well to stiffen it up
what do you mean?
yeah but the tpu bits are floating themselves currently
like I had to cut it and it's like resting on the VTX right now
pinched cables and all
Not ideal. All of this gotta be fixed
isn't that like, most frames tho?
bar gopro mounts that are all kinda the same, different quads gonna have different antennas n so different mounting requirements
yeah but stuff barely fitting is kind of yike
i would say me but my cad skills are sub par
Wel it's Onshape not as refined as solid works
Can you also send a picture between the topplate and bottom plate? I'm wandering if you got cables running over your aio (and gyro) that can cause noise to the gyro (like tapping with a wire on it)
I have the camera wire, power for the vtx and receiver tucked under the aio.
Can you reroute the vtx wire? Best is outside the aio, otherwise under it.
Which aio do you use?
I can't do it outside, so it just has to stay under
It shouldn't be doing much more than just battery power though, and the ESC is supposed to be the one on the bottom one
It's the pink Axisflying F7 AIO
It's packed with heatsinks on both sides?
Ok, i guess that will protect the gyro from tapped with a wire.
And are all your screws tightened?
I had an 5 inch frame with separate arms. 1 of the 8 screws wasn’t tighten enough and I didn’t solve a resonance around 70hz. Till i replaced the screw and tightened it more
All loctite, but the AIO definitely needs to be secured better itself.
the base of fc must be fix with metal screws preferably, the top screws need to have equal pressure on the softmounts
had ELRS fail again
sitting in the same spot as always
going to the same spot as always
heard the fan on my module ramp up and boom rxloss
What packet rate are you at?
At my old apartment, I had a real hard time going more than 300 meters because of all the Wifi.
I mostly ran Crossfire there until I moved.
250hz and it went all the way to 2W
like the antenna on the quad isn't in a favourable position but this is getting a little stupid
Have you done the range test thing with it yet?
I'm curious what you're getting at 25mw
everything always seems all good but the LQ just drops
It's probably interference, but there's a chance it's an antenna issue. that test should show if there's an issue there.
If it's more than -40....or is that less than... I have a story... If it isn't, and that's fine, then I ain't admitting nuthin'. nope. no story to tell 😋
That's fine. you start to worry when it's over 60.
... and I did say over 40.. so..
I fought a range issue for a full week with my first ELRS module. I was so proud of going to one watt, I bought the best antennas, I built the perfect antenna placement... My range slurped.....
The Module is RP-SMA. I'd bought a really nice SMA antenna. .. and didn't notice... and it flew fine until it didn't. It took me a week to catch on. 😆
I may be backwards on the way they were. Neither had the barb.
I checked the 2.4 networks around here too and they're all in the same channel apart from our own
ELRS shouldn't really have trouble with that
It's so confusing because I have been flying to that exact same spot in the exact same spot multiple times, even on lower transmit power and it was always fine
I mean even my video held up
that is really weird.
Can you try moving the antenna? like tape it out on an arm and see if getting it away from the body helps?
I probably could but I'm struggling to find the motivation for that
I feel that mood. 😆
I just flew back to the same spot
using the exact same path and everything else the same
and it was entirely completely fine
-70 and 100LQ
😖
much ooof.
Goggles were fine, Ranger module was ramped up to 2W's and still had RX loss
AxisFlying receiver that also looked to be completely fine, antenna too
afterwards when going to the same spot taking the same route and sitting in the same position
was completely fine, 100LQ and all
@half flax Hey, got a moment to look at this one? She's getting RXloss at 2 watts dynamic power and 58 meters away in LOS.
well, one wall and part human inbetween
Do you have any DVR or telemetry logs showing RSSI dBM and/or RSNR?
What TX and RX?
Ranger and Axis Thor?
Is the receiver mounted on top of the VTX?
I can probably get you DVR in a bit
TX is a RadioMaster Ranger module, 250hz with dynamic transmission set up to 2W's
Axisflying receiver, whatever it is
Mounted under the AIO (on the ESC side) with the antenna mounted in a "bumper" on the bottom-front of the quad
Stock omni antenna on the Ranger module I believe
Do you have any other ELRS TX or RX?
I don't
The Ranger is pretty solidly built. In the short term, I would pick up another ELRS RX. Something like a HappyModel EP1, BetaFPV Nano, or BetaFPV SuperD depending on what your flying goals are. The Axisflying hardware is less common, but seems to have more than it's fair share of issues.
I was hoping it'd be a fine receiver, it was the only one available so I didn't have much of a choice at the time
I'm fine ordering another one at some point
If you don't mind waiting two weeks, you can get BetaFPV Nano clones on AliExpress for <$10. Otherwise, an EP1 should be easy to find locally for about the same price, or a SuperD for <$20 is a heck of a deal
Not sure of your budget or timeline
I don't have much time to order things anymore, I could probably get a SuperD or similar somewhere around
They're on Amazon for $24, which isn't bad considering an EP1 costs $20 there
Thank you for linking it
I'm DMing you the DVR since I don't want the license plates and stuff on here
if that's okay
I've had one other weird RX issue before
Looks like both high background noise due to LQ drops around -82 dBm, but then link is at 100% LQ at -77 dBm then drops completely
Where I was in a car flying maybe a 100 meters LOS on a parking lot, LQ suddenly dropped out and RX loss but could still turn it around and kept flying
I'm leaning towards a receiver issue
Can you post the output of status in Betaflight CLI?
sure, give me a bit

Are you running DSHOT300 or DSHOT600?
You should probably update Betaflight also, that seems like an early (buggy) build of 4.5.0
Change it to 300
Will do, but why's that?
- It has a BMI gyro that maxes out at 3.2kHz, so no need for DSHOT600.
- There seems to be a bug with BF 4.4+ with F722 FCs running DSHOT600 leading to late tasks and control issues
Can't find the target
ARGUSF7AIO
What a mess
Betaflight currently knows it as AXISFLYINGARGUSF7AIO and then AxisFlying product pages say it's axisflyingf7aio
manufacturer goofyness
Looks like they changed the target name because the format is Manufacturer-Target and having the manufacturer in the target name made it redundant
https://github.com/betaflight/config/pull/110/files
stuck on initiating reboot to bootloader while also displaying stm32 bootloader in the top right
they don't power via USB
I'll just have to wait till I have access to my SO's Windows PC to flash it
You have the STM DFU drivers installed?
Unplug everything, hold down FC boot button, plug in USB, and try again with "no reboot sequence" checked in BF Configurator
I put it into bootloader mode using the CLI since I couldn't find the button
2024-04-12 @00:14:30 -- Failed to open USB device!
2024-04-12 @00:14:30 -- Are udev rules installed correctly? See docs for instructions```
it just has no clue for some reason
What OS?
I would do this
Linux, OpenSUSE Tumbleweed with all permissions and udev rules granted
and working fine for other stm32 stuff
so no clue what the deal is
Configurator for betaflight firmware
heh, neither of us have a standalone chromium browser installed
where
turn RPY to OFF in the dropdown
but then you have to calculate 65% of each value of Dmin and Dmax
and put them in manually
sooo. Slider saves considerable effort
what do d gains do
Controls the overall level of D of the craft
and since D is well known as "that fucker that amplifies frame resonances"
We can do with less of that here
I thought it was, but I couldn't find a trace of it in the log itself.
I'll go over with a fine toothed comb to see what i missed - but since my graph setup worked for my 4.5 build and then not this one, something smells a little off
have you changed this at all since?
@brittle jolt I found the gyro unfiltered, called Before downsampling in blackbox log viewer
Sorry, I meant gyro scaled. Thats what you want I guess
And thats the same value in my blackbox viewer, if I open an log from bf 4.4

Damned software updates
I see, because gyro scaled for yaw is callingt After RPM here with the log of emilia
But no new release for the log viewer
I think we should be able to figure this out when Emilia gets ua a new log
And fixed the resonation around 40hz, that is really bad. Thats on all axes. Maybe motormounts?
@mint tree screws has to be tighten by screwing. Loctite only take care of getting loose by vibration.
all the screws that are on the bottom are loctited and thus as tight as they'll ever be
Have you solved the elrs issue? I had problems with elrs range too and it was happening only sometimes and because the antenna wire was damaged and had a loose contact , it got fixed by soldering where it broke
that d gain thing
was not the correct thing to do
it now just micro shakes, the entire time.
Fascinating
also the new updated betaflight
is fucking annoying
new font that keeps flashing
yes my dBm is at -80
that's normal
stop bothering me
lmao
set osd_rssi_dbm_warning or something like that in CLI
interesting about the pids. Disregard what I said, then
it felt like I was being rattled in a can lol
belgian highway feed
set osd_rssi_dbm_alarm = -100 little bit of that
and we're good
tx uplink power osd thing doesn't work
close enough
orly?
making me wonder if you didn't raise the masx output of dynamic power
i did
Need to set switch mode to Wide in the ELRS lua
TX power is not sent when it's set to hybrid
with the help of having tx power on the osd
I did some scouting
in the area I lost signal for the receiver
it goes to 2W's
and the goggle's don't struggle much
meanwhile there's areas where the goggles are basically dying, and the ELRS TX is chilling at 100mW
definitely some funny stuff, wonder if I could do anything about that
2.4g interference?
I mean it must be
unless the receiver is just really sketchy
it was still an incredibly weird rxloss since I am able to fly there and the drop-out was very random
I can send you the DVR if you want lol
it's pretty funky
I saw the other one with a similar drop in LQ, safe to say I can't provide better advice than V-22 did it was very cryptic
Can you put RSSI dBm, RSNR, and LQ in the OSD and show some DVR? The RSNR will be the main indicator of local interference.
I'll add the RSNR
Can also just enable telemetry logging on your radio and post the logs to avoid any privacy concerns
sure
It is helpful to see the DVR though
No matter what I just can't get ELRS to behave 😭
Walksnail at 25mbps
dBm at -78
and radio just goes to 2W and the LQ is super dodgy
SNR at like 10-15
same quad, different spot this time
like 20 meters from other spot
1 wall inbetween, otherwise LOS
Can't you go to a whole different spot?
flying around the house
Something like that
And its not that bad with another quad?
I don't have another quad so I wouldn't know
wondering if it's like. goggles' wifi network or some shit
last i saw the receiver could have done with being mounted further away from potential sources of emi too?
kind of
it's currently under the aio
it could be on top
or on top the vtx
I don't know what else I can try
new TX antenna, new RX receiver
new TX module...
Do you know someone in the neighborhood with the same hobby? So you can change radio or quad to test
I'm basically in the middle of nowhere so no
middle of nowhere meaning "the nearest big city is the length of Germany away"
If you have spare tx/rx lying around, it couldn't hurt to swap one by one and test in between
I'd have to buy...
I see you have a tx16s with 4-in-1 internal?
yeah a really old one
v1 before they fixed the charging issues
with a ranger module with stock antenna
and a pretty dead battery
Nice, you can use de 4-in-1 as a spectrum analyzer for the 4.2Ghz band with a lua-script.
It's just a wild shot, but maybe you see a lot of noise with the analyzer.....
Like with your goggles on, etc. as Darkmann already wonderd
O, enough hardware to analyze
You can use a sdr to see if the rx has reasons to got that worse lq
problem after problem...
The little EdgeTX tool has a rave but the goggles don't visibly change it
Sounds that there is a real problem in your lq. Hardware or software.
Already tried with flashing different version of elrs?
It's all on the latest
went through all the settings and such with V-22 after my random RX loss and their only conclusion was the receiver having problems
If you try 3.2.1 or something like that?
Swap out receiver, easy and not too expensive try

the SNR always being under 15 and dBm being -80
and the LQ just dropping in and out
I feel like that almost can't be anything other than the receiver
It says all the IMU features have been disabled
but they're VERY much working for me?
I've reflashed it to 3.3.1, maybe the firmware on the thing was completely broken.
@half flax @sleek widget Immediately the LQ is more stable
dBm is sometimes 20 higher in the same exact spots
LQ still jumps all over the place but it's always above 92
I am so confused lol
That sounds great! Let's start more testing!
And jumping lq above 90 is what I also experience with my receiver stuffed between aio and carbon.
It immediately feels a lot better
Remind me what receiver it is again
The AxisFlying one
I flashed the firmware on the RadioMaster Ranger module.
I'll be testing more but this has been dang confusing
This is now a ducted prop

that sucked
I guess somehow the soldering on that was the most terrible thing ever, or it got yoinked off after the crash
Loose ground could explain your issues
I'd take the opportunity to just replace the receiver though
It definitely could, but it wasn't why I lost RX in the crash
I remember from after it cut off that like usual the LQ dropped while the dBm was bouncing around
and only after the crash all the values went to default
really want to replace that receiver
surely nothing can go wrong with this one
only place for it still is I think under the aio
can't think of anywhere else
antennas possibly on arms, not sure
Maybe one antenna on a stand off
How would that look?
Don't know, you have to try it by yourself
I usually put the antennas on the arms.
... you can always add more spacers to the AIO...
