#Crux35 randomly dropping out of the sky

So I received my Crux35 Feb 2nd and since then, been wrestling with it. I'm having a big issue with it just randomly dropping out of the sky.

It used to be I'd go 10 feet then it would drop, but after talking with GetFPV support, which they had me change my settings on my transmitter, it has improved significantly. But it's still doing it, just not as often. Tech support told me "never seen this before, you are leaving something out". Which I am not. I have told him everything. Video and photos to show.

So I have theory: I vaguely remember when I was researching this drone, someone in a YT video said that when he used 850mAh batteries, he had issues with the dronr behaving weird until he went down to either 650, 750mAh batteries. I tried finding the video but I was unable.

What do y'all think? Any other suggestions?

Do you have any DVR or telemetry logs? What radio system are you using?

bronze drift
#

Battery capacity won't change anything like that

Like the setting on the transmitter? No it doesn't show anything on the OSD

#

here is a video. again vtx came unplugged. i was just flying casually. this is exactly what it does

supple carbon
#

Seems like too much power could've been drawn.... unless I am wrong

#

It was at 3.7...

#

God I can't see....

#

Goes from 4 to 2.4 all of a sudden....

jaunty ether
#

@civic hornet First of all, no voltage in the OSD?

#

or is it just outside of the scope of the camera?

supple carbon
#

Left hand bottom corner? I can't tell what the words are

#

That is the first thing I noticed

jaunty ether
#

that's current, not voltage

supple carbon
#

My bad. Fuzzy screens man

civic hornet
#

I have a really cheap headset with no DVR. Planning on getting Cobra X V2 so in the mean time, got to put my phone on my 2nd headset LOL

jaunty ether
#

Put the headset on the correct frequency tho 😂

supple carbon
#

@civic hornet did you try to throttle up when it was close to dropping?

supple carbon
#

So no trying to go any higher or anything? You were coming down for a landing at that time?

jaunty ether
#

But in a really strange way

supple carbon
#

I was just curious though if it could just be a voltage drop that just happens.

Reason why I am thinking this is because I have had similar experiences with other electronics before. Same thing with the bots I used to build

supple carbon
#

Not related to FPV, but just trying to make a connection really

civic hornet
jaunty ether
#

ow my neck

jaunty ether
#

single motor failure causes the drone to flip out, not yaw

#

So, basically
the mAh measurement in the OSD is useless unless you do the legwork to calibrate it

#

youi can ditch that

#

Voltage, Current, RSSI, Link Quality, Warnings, Throttle

#

these need to be visible

#

to help with diagnosis

#

we need a video where it fails with these visible on the screen

civic hornet
#

Ok so I need to go onbetafligjt to turn it all on?

supple carbon
#

I would fly it again and see what happens.
Yeah, turn the settings on what GGManiack said

jaunty ether
#

in BF Configurator, adjust the OSD so that those are visible on the recording when you make another one

#

you have all of it in there already

#

just move it so it's visible next time xD

Is your VRX on the right channel? It looks like the VTX says R8 and your VRX is on H1?

#

And you can't see the RC link stats in the bottom right

supple carbon
#

I can't see anything

civic hornet
#

Yo guys chill I don't have DVR lol

#

It's hard balancing a phone

snow sand
#

And make sure you have warnings in the OSD

jaunty ether
#

Your goggles are set to H1 instead of R8 so they're getting shit reception (surprised they're getting any, in fact)

#

we get that you don't have DVR hardware which is why we're not commenting on that

#

We need you to set up the OSD and Goggles in a way that gives us the info we need xD

civic hornet
jaunty ether
#

If the R8 thing is correct, then your VTX is set to 5917MHz...

#

set the goggles to the same

#

anyway, as for what I think may be happening
NO fucking clue, this is new.

#

When it drops, does it still react to throttle?

civic hornet
#

Nope

jaunty ether
#

can you send a screenshot of your Modes tab in BF Configurator?

civic hornet
#

Again it's raining all day today. I'll get out and fly tomorrow and record it

jaunty ether
#

with "hide unused modes" ticked

civic hornet
civic hornet
supple carbon
#

Get that sweet shot of this though on the phone and post it here

jaunty ether
#

The closest thing it looks to me like is a failsafe

#

simply losing radio connection

supple carbon
#

But video shouldn't be lost

jaunty ether
#

that's unrelated

civic hornet
jaunty ether
#

the video loss is just a matter of the goggles/vtx

supple carbon
#

Oh, my apologies

jaunty ether
#

@civic hornet Also, send a screenshot of OSD tab

civic hornet
#

Ok

civic hornet
#

Here is a bunch of photos. Lmk if you need anything else

jaunty ether
#

Where are the Warnings positioned in your OSD?

civic hornet
#

Upper middle

snow sand
#

Is this ELRS?

civic hornet
#

Yes it's ELRS

snow sand
#

Follow the benchtest procedure and post the result

civic hornet
civic hornet
#

@snow sand

civic hornet
#

@jaunty ether LQ is 2:100, 2:99

#

2 videos on it

jaunty ether
#

What voltage did it drop to?

civic hornet
#

Send tne 2nd one

#

Of freaking course the sun is blinding out the voltage

jaunty ether
#

why did you have it in the sun xD record it inside a backpack or something

civic hornet
#

I didn't even realize atm it's so freaking sunny today lol

#

Well I work here soon so I'll get another tomorrow or Monday

civic hornet
#

There you can see the Voltage and link quality

snow sand
# civic hornet

It still looks like your VTX and VRX are set to different channels

civic hornet
#

Ik ik I'm not worried about that rn. It's freezing outside rn, my drone can't even fly rn. I'll correct that once I get it to stop crashing

snow sand
#

RC link looks fine

#

Video is bad because they are not set properly

jaunty ether
jaunty ether
#

But like, now we can see that it's none of the common issues

#

not a voltage drop

#

not a signal drop

#

if it was a normal motor failure, it should flip out, but it just yaws out and falls?

#

It's almost like the gyro freezes

civic hornet
#

Yea idk

#

Does the Gyro need reset in here flight?

jaunty ether
civic hornet
#

Does the Gyro need reset in Beta flight?

jaunty ether
#

that's not how that works

civic hornet
#

That why I was asking. Wasn't sure

jaunty ether
#

alternatively

#

could your radio be glitching out?

#

If it's running a new enough Betaflight, you should be able to put stick positions into OSD

civic hornet
#

Sorry can you explain what you mean? Still learning this all.

jaunty ether
#

Just another thing to tick off of the list.

#

Since some version of Betaflight (the firmware that runs inside your drone), there is an OSD element which shows stick positions on the screen.

#

It would be great if you could enable it, put it in the OSD and crash xD

civic hornet
#

Ok will do. I will brave the freezing temperatures to got a video of it

#

Lol I hate winter so much

#

Tomorrow that is.

I'm the mean time, how do I go about getting my headset on the right channel with my drone

jaunty ether
jaunty ether
#

I don't have your headset's band/channel table

#

and it's definitely a weird one

civic hornet
#

I can give you a photo of it tonight when i grt kff work

jaunty ether
#

Your headset is saying that it's receiving at 5362MHz
which is VERY unlikely xD

#

cause your drone is transmitting at close to 5900

#

and that's about as close to each other as the US political parties

civic hornet
civic hornet
snow sand
civic hornet
#

Ok I'll get that for you tonight

jaunty ether
#

lots of cheapo goggles have like ABCDEFG

#

cause the manufacturer just couldn't be arsed

civic hornet
#

@jaunty ether you need the stick overlay on in the OSD?

jaunty ether
civic hornet
jaunty ether
#

Ok not the radio. This is somehow the weirdest damn issue I've seen in a long while.

#

Have you used esc-configurator before?

civic hornet
#

No sir

grave island
#

Why are all the videos upside down... is this drone capable of recording a blackbox log?

#

Looks like you lost your tail rotor. Except you don't have a tail rotor.

#

Looks like it does. I'd like you to go to the blackbox page on Betaflight, set the three dropdowns to

  1. Onboard Storage
  2. 1khz or above (not too high or it'll lag)
  3. GYRO_SCALED

and then go reproduce the issue!

jaunty ether
#

This is not how motor/ESC failures go..

grave island
#

It is only one video, and during an unspectacular maneuver... could be a timely runaway disarm after a single motor failed?

#

Blackbox please.

jaunty ether
grave island
#

f̴͑͑l̵͑̍ĭ̶̇g̶̑͝h̷͑͛t̵̽͝ ̶̈́recorder

jaunty ether
#

haha

#

I'm thinking that one of the motors gets stuck at a low but non-zero thrust level

#

which would be a first

grave island
#

I got nothing.

#

Watched the other videos (with my phone turned upside down). It actually looks like a disarm to me. Full motor stop.
