#can't bind elrs
146 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
well, the boxer is on 3.3, the quad on 3.2
are they on the same regulatory domain?
I believe so, how can I check this ?
most receivers come with CE I think
if you flashed your radio, you either selected CE or ISM
I didn't flash it, it failed every time I tried even if I do everything like in the tutorials
okay, let's do that then, just in case
ok, i'm gonna re try then
incredible, it worked (the flashing)
if I now flash the receiver, will it be finnally good ? and once it is done, to bind them, is it the 3 plug-unplugs then bind on the radio ? or is it something else ?
if both have the same bind phrase, they should connect right after being powered on
ok, also, I can't flash the receiver, if I do one with wifi and the other is flashed, but both with the same binding phrase, will they work ? and by connect right away, do you mean that I won't need to use the bind button ?
how are you trying to flash it?
with the expresslrs configurator, in bf passethrough, plugged in the usb port on the side of the quad, without a battery plugged in
it needs to be set up correctly in Betaflight, did you make sure that it's set following the documentation?
I believe so, I just updated it's firmware on bf, set the modes how I wanted them and that was all I did, was I supposed to do something else ?
ok, but I don't know wich uart it is soldered to, since it is a bnf, is there a way I can check it without gutting it ?
I trust that you made a config backup before flashing BF and applied it after, then the port should already be set up correctly
just need to touch up the settings in the receiver tab
nope, I forgot to re apply it, good thing you talked about it
it is saying me "warning! configuration has been applied with CLI errors." and I can choose between cancel and save anyway, should I continue ?
what are the errors?
ok, the save anyway ?
yeah
ok
idk
wot
it's my first drone, and I basically passed all day trying to have the video and elrs working
it's literally impossible for you to not know
what is cli ?
did you use Presets tab or CLI tab to restore the configuration?
oh, preset tab
I have no idea what cli is
CLI tab
command line interface
lets you send commands to the FC
That's what the backup file is.. a bunch of commands
because the standard term for it is CLI
yeah but it isn't really intuitive, I am used in servers to "console"
¯_(ツ)_/¯
console has a bit of a different meaning
it is colloquially used to mean CLI, but it's not the same thing
anyway
idk, both let you send raw code to a computer
yeah nah..
historic reasons..
anyway
the errors you got are there because of some changes between versions
The BF version you flashed has no support for Barometer (altitude sensor) or Magnetometer (electronic compass), so the commands for those errored out
well, flashing still doesn't work
flashing what?
flashing the elrs receiver
is the receiver powering up?
that's a good observation, the receiver light doesn't light up, I guess I need to add a battery then
clearly that one doesn't
USB powered pads are usually labelled 4V5 instead of 5V
ah, 3h of wanting to tear this drone apart because I can't get it to fly because of a battery
xD
I have to say, I never felt has stupid in any of my other hobby, it's great
oh, don't worry, the fact that you're not screaming at us that ELRS is shit and that you're going to call Trappy to fix your entire existence with a Crossfire <redacted> means that you're above average
oh I thought about it
xD
but quite frankly, I already left a few fpv discord and this one is the best so far, so I am trying not to be too much of a jackass to stay on the good side of people, cause the other servers I went to where a "meh" at best
?
on most FPV servers you'll meet the same people
at least as far as helpers are concerned xD
there is a huge overlap 😄
well I didn't
yeah people do choose where they're the most active
for me it's here
just be careful about burning bridges, because you can easily find yourself setting the whole moat on fire 😄
I did only have one guy that was also from here
don't worry, I didn't get banned or anything, I only left because I prefer here, the term jackass probably was a bit exagerated and the fact that it is 3am here probably didn't help, but usually I don't cause much trouble
aight then
There have been cases of people getting uberbanned xD
like, a person being such an ass that the whole FPV server community came together and yeeted them 😂
it only happened to me once, but it was with flat earthers, so it should be fine
a bunch of idiots who get all happy that you want to learn more about the great pizza cult, but gets progressivly more angry has you try to explain that we don't live on a giant pizza, and outright bans you when you say astronauts are real
(also, that is not hate, it is for educational purpose)
btw, in bf I have the giroscope that has drifted 90 degree counter clockwise, will it pose a problem during flight ?
what flight
There will be no flight if the gyro isn't aligned
you also could have said yes, but also, how can I fix that ? I don't see any "recalibrate gyro" button
Configuration tab
there is a Yaw offset value on the right side
Yaw degrees
adjust it in increments of 90
save, check again
isn't this going to be terribly imprecise ?
hm?
well, to manually change the offset
not sure what you mean
Gyros are genereally aligned with FCs.
In rare instances, they're at a 45° angle
If it looks correct, it's more than good enough.
well say it is actually 95 degree not alligned, and I put allign it to 90 degree, will the few degree that I didn't fix make a difference ?
How would you manage to get 5° of an offset?
if the chip was 5° off on the FC, it would short out..
if the FC is 5° off, then someone really screwed up during assembly or manufacture
There isn't much wiggle room in any of these things
Anyway, the FC can compensate for a lot, but the more it has to, the worse it flies.
I'd guess that beyond 15° it would be unflyable.
ok, we aren't talking about the same thing
well, I believe you say that somebody glued the gyro on the wrong orientation, but me I am talking about drift, like a joystick on a controller (that doesn't use hall effect)
a gyro measures rotational speed
it doesn't measure an absolute angle
yeah but can't it drift ?
I have no idea how else to explain it but by repeating myself
the gyro measures °/s, not °
you need the ° to be correct for axis alignment
the axis can't drift off alignment because it's an axis aligned mechanical component inside of the gyro
The gyro can have drift in terms of °/s, and it does
the FC actually calibrates the "idle" °/s on every powerup
ok
(unrelated to this guy's problem) I got a video for you
8°/s or so lol
that's normal when you're screwing around with it
as I said, it calibrates on powerup..
if you move it on powerup, the calibration will be off
there is a threshold in BF to guard against this (to some extent..)
gyro_calib_limit
iirc
it used to be called moron_threshold 🙂
Ohh so "screwing around" is moving it on power up? Because that might have been what I did.
Seems like I went past that extent
Great to know they've changed the name
But tbh, no one told me that was possible or that would happen by moving the FC on power up.
Atleast I do know now. I thought something was wrong with my gyro.
If you want to verify, you can just have the FC reboot without moving it at all
BF will calibrate on boot
