Please Check my Walksnail-Avatar settings - extreme bad Penetration

Hello,

would you say that it is normal to have extreme disconnections at such a short distance behind just one tree?
I could provide more examples. In the video attached I even had no image for 1-2 seconds.
I'm using the Walksnail Avatar VRX with the stock antennas (I know they suck, but so much?)

I was using the High Bitrate mode at 700mw on Channel 1 (720p). Standbymode was On (But thats only for the disarmed stage, isnt it!?)
I tested it with two different drones and got the same problem.

The walksnail antennas could definitely be contributing to the problem, they are really bad

hmpf...So the best thing would be if I printed a new front case of the VRX and replaced the patch antennas?

have you replaced the antenna(s) on the vtx? those are hilariously bad

Nope :x those are also the stock ones, i got with the Pro Kit

Would you try to replace those first, before I Print a new Frontplate for the VRX and replace the patch antennas? would defently be easier...

well it looks like they changed the antenna, thankfully.. But if the new one is any better i dont really knopw.
I would 100% replace the vtx antenna first, the built in patches are like 90% there, they are absolutely fine.

TrueRC makes some of the best antennas, if you live in EU there is also prodrone.pl which also makes great stuff but at a super low price

exactly! you just gotta make sure the connector matches, i believe it's UFL on the walksnail vtx, and the antenna you sent a link of is MMCX

and the polarization needs to match too, but you already found the right one (which is LHCP)

According to my Internet research, most people were upset about the antennas on the VRX. But I would like to try other antennas on the VTX first. This is defensively easier to replace

they are probably upset about the omni's? which are supposedly just as useless as the omni they put on the drone

Actually i thought the build in patch antennas where the problem 🤔 but i am not sure...The omnis would be even easier to replace 😄

The patches are a nice all round patch. They are not super high gain and super directional, so if you were reeeaallyy into long range, you might wanna replace them.
But in that case I would just put on two better patch antennas where the omnis are 🤷‍♂️

but just remember the signal goes in a narrow beam

One more stupid question coming from analog: I cant change anything regarding Video signal strenght in betaflight for walksnail / digital, can i? It is all in the VRX right?

Another question coming from analog 😅: Is the Avatar VRX using a "diversity" mode? I remember beeing able to choose "diversity" or "Mix" in my skyzone analog goggles. But there is nothing like that in the Walksnail menue

Digital is a lot more complicated than analog in that regard, it's more like "mix" if anything, but thats really selling it short too

tons of encoding going on in a digital system, patching together missing pieces of info etc

Ahh alright....so it is not only picking the best signal and it would actually make sense to have multiple patch antennas.

If i have only patch antennas, will i have like no signal at all, if i fly like 50 meters behind me? How extreme is this? 😄
(i am thinking about replacing only one of the two omni antennas at first, to test if it will make a difference 🤔)

No actually patch antennas usually have ok coverage directly behind you, but to the side there is barely anything.
50 meters however should be pretty achievable, but i cant answer for sure

I think it prefers combining at least the signal from 2 antennas, so not sure how the 1 patch / 1 omni deal would work.. I could be wrong

Oh, one more thing: The "RSNR signal Low" message on the OSD in the Video is reffering to the signal strength of my Radio, isnt it? Is it because i am using "Dynamic" (as you can see in the top left)? So i get the "signal low" message and than the radio increases the signal strength? So i shouldnt worry about it!?
