mostly thanks to the fact that I lost my first drone to a flyaway

#

I am so thankful for the fact that ELRS exists nowadays

#

no more having to scream at newbies to CHECK YOUR FAILSAFE before flying their flysky setups..

i was 12 when i was racing RC cars and had 1 kid in most of my races that always had the best stuff, but didn't understand why he needed to extend his antenna...and sure enough after 150' - his cars would always disappear

#

lol

#

i rebuilt my cars after every race...good ol days

#

but we didn't have all this stuff...almost need a Ph D in electronics now

#

So 4 test flights in, and he says the YAW is acting like the throttle. I'll upload a short vid, but I'm wanting to throw pillows out under it or attach foam feet...

Honestly, it used to be quite a bit worse imo?
You needed to understand PID tuning at least to some extent, had to do ESC calibration, ESCs often required weird config cards, receivers were analog and wired up with a bajillion wires. Video OSD required external boards, sometimes you had to add a separate power regulator, VTX configuration was cryptic as heck...

Yea, it's really come a long way

So, his drone doesn't stay in the air for more than 20 seconds...he's done the sim a lot and flies great. Seems like he never adjusted for gravity...

Hmmmm

#

interesting.

#

That's kinda like a yaw runaway but kinda not?

#

it throttles up uncontrollably when yaw is applied?

#

Just verifying if I'm seeing it right.

#

Because getting some accidental yaw input while moving throttle is pretty typical for a newbie.

#

However, yaw causing the drone to shoot up is not (it's a common case of misconfiguration)

#

I'll be going to bed in a minute, but, could you send a backup of the drone's configuration?

#

You can create it in Presets tab in Betaflight Configurator.

#

A screenshot of Motors tab would be useful as well.

Getting those now - appreciate all the help

#

He's got to charge it anyways...lol

earnest pawn
#

also, check that the inputs in Receiver tab work as expected.

#

make sure that there is no interaction between the different inputs

#

sometimes people use a model set up with mixing for a plane by accident

versed juniper
#

will do

#

do you want the info here or DM?

here

On the way

Thanks again -

uhh

#

neither of those files is loading for me

#

they both report as corrupted.. hmm

#

can you try to resend them, one by one (after checking their contents)?

versed juniper
#

Sure

#

@versed juniper I remember making a combined config for someone who wiped their prebuilt, was that you?

versed juniper
#

No that wasn't, I made a save and a backup to that save...just in case

#

So it seems he has an extremely fast takeoff, then it goes for about 15 seconds and then makes a slight turn, and it disconnects.

This has happened every time he's flown - not sure if it's a setting to slow down his throttle or if it disconnects it hovers or returns home (saw that in the settings) or any other options?

versed juniper
#

Also, I looked through his preset load, and he has a freestlye set up...not sure that's great for a rookie flyer.

I just would think there would be a slow throttle that allows it to spin up slower so he can control takeoff and landings...

So, he cracked one of the pieces on the battery that connects to the charger after losing a battle with a rod iron fence...so, now it's up to the delivery of Amazon to bring us a new battery pack

It's the small 6 pin connector that connects to the charger, I've got a few coming and will replace those so he can use it again - and maybe cover the battery and cables in bubble wrap LOL (just kidding...but it's a thought)

versed juniper
# earnest pawn uhh

Did you get the files I sent? Everything look ok? New batteries should come in today and I'll see if there's a different preset (something that maybe says NOOB) so he can start out at a beginner level and not pro level - ready to race. He's got the 'microwave' mentality that everything is just plug and go...without having to learn the in's and out's.
