Tyro129 help with setup
that was not my question, for long was it powered on the longest?
because you said you dont have any video signal, and a VTX can get REALLY hot and die
if you leave it on for too long without flying (the air cools it)
5 minutes is fine
ok
it also doesn't continuously beep anymore after i messed with some settings
<@&797250070567059487>
dont ping helpers! We will help, when we have time!
ok
Brought about 20 people in
What was it that you wanted? Bind the radio? Or just try to make it beep properly first
okay, show a screenshot of your configurator
have you made a backup before?
no
if you cant remember that anymore and dont have a backup, we are pretty much screwed and a reflash and configure from start is needed
i would advise you to watch some youtube videos about the start
apart from that - this is a 7" quad - the props are litterly spinning blades
please learn to fly in a simulator! You can seriously injure yourself or others with this! Its not a toy!
i have but thanks
so i should just copy all the settings on the link you sent
no - this is a very old betaflight version, i would say you want 4.4.2
for that you need the latest configurator version and flash newer firmware
ok

here is a start
watch both
how about you watch it first?
ok
what controler do you have?
BETAFPV ExpressLRS LiteRadio 2 SE Radio Transmitter Remote Controller with Built-in 1000mAh 1S Battery for FPV RC Racing Drones Multirotor Simulator Joystick Calibration - Mode 2 Left Throttle
okay, show me your Receiver tab from configurator
have you flashed 4.4.2 and are you using the latest betaflight configurator
i am on the latest
what does flashed 4.4.2 mean
@modest ivy
have you really watched both videos
from start to end?
im 20mins in the first video
and i need to connect my controller to test the reciever
@modest ivy
stop pinging me all the time
ELRS is pretty simple, do you have a WiFi device? Laptop or Phone?
have you read this https://support.betafpv.com/hc/en-us/articles/4403734844441-How-to-Bind-with-External-ExpressLRS-Receiver ?
yes but to be honest it doesn't make sense
i dont have the same chip layout from the picture
how do i Power on and power off the receiver
does the receiver power on if you insert the USB Plug into the board?
normally it has a LED on it
show me a picture of your receiver
that is your flight controller
had you the drone connected to a LiPo without the Antenna attched?
in the back, you normally screw in the antenna for the video signal
if the vtx was on for 5 minutes at max power, without a antenna attached, it is most likely toast
yes?
without the Antenna the output power will bounce back into the VTX and will heat it up, until it is dead
can it cool down or no
if it is dead, it is dead
you must buy a new one and replace it
no!
your VTX, but we dont even know if it is dead or not
VTX = video transmitter
we're warning you that the video transmitter can die if you power it up without an antenna connected
emphasis on can
For the ELRS stuff - you don't have a receiver in the drone?
powered up from battery?
yes
how did your battery last that long?
My question should've pointed you towards checking if the battery is even alive >.>
ive had it plugged in for 1hr though
without a VTX antenna
oof
yes
so you pray now, that it was set to the lowest power setting, otherwise it is 100% dead
xD
@sharp owl this is REALLY important
disconnect your battery
get a multimeter and measure the voltage of it
11.1v
how many cells?
did you measure that or did you read that on the battery?
i read it
when you want to check what battery level your phone is at, do you take the manual and read the battery capacity?
so, it's a 3 cell battery (of garbage quality)
NOW
what voltage is it at?
what charger have you got?
I bet it's a B6 or something worse, but still.. need to know
Yeah this is amateur pyrotechnics
May want to take the break
yeah
We're more used to this stuff
thank you!
@sharp owl do you happen to have a multimeter?
@sharp owl Plug the battery and USB into the drone, connect Betaflight Configurator, and take a look in the top bar
at the battery meter
or send a screenshot
okay unplug the battery
it's at 9.92V
9.92/3 = 3.3V per cell
that's barely above completely empty
so yeah the battery has to take a break
You should charge it up but I can't recommend in any way shape or form the usage of your current charger
The charger that you're using is in the "fire hazard" category, and frankly, so is the battery.
Now, omitting that, do you already have the LiteRadio 2 SE ? @sharp owl
yes
Just wanna warn you - that radio has a pretty poor reputation, and is stuck on ExpressLRS 2.0.1
as BetaFPV has decided to just not bother updating it
It will work with a receiver that can run ExpressLRS 2
many of the recent ones are ELRS 3+ only
oh
Look for something like a Happymodel EP1
no clue
that's purely luck based
go to Video Transmitter tab in BF Configurator
is it empty?
nono
Video Transmitter tab, if configured to not be empty, would have told us what power level the VTX was set to
but since it's not configured, the only way to tell is by looking at the VTX's LEDs
So, back to "no way to know"
honestly, I've seen VTXs survive more often than not
but not 1hr
but hey
how about 30mins
still a chance
usually the powered up time is in singular minutes, max
You'll know once you have goggles
and antennas
if it is done can i just get a reciver
"can"
you can't fly the drone without a receiver
so you kinda "need" to get a receiver
so that the radio can talk to the drone
ok
the VTX is unrelated to that
@sharp owl the receiver most likely won't come with wires
so you need to provide your own (28 or 30AWG is typical for a receiver)
so that you can solder it on
oh
RC FPV Receiver Parts Combo 5.8G 14DBI High Gain Flat Panel & Mushroom FPV Antenna for EV800D FPV Goggles Receiver RC Drones Quadcopter would this help
with what
connection
what connection
one on the drone and one on the googles
how would i connect a dx6e transmitter to my drone
RC FPV Receiver Parts Combo 5.8G 14DBI High Gain Flat Panel & Mushroom FPV Antenna for EV800D FPV Goggles Receiver RC Drones Quadcopter is this good
if i put one on the drone and another on the goggles
@pale nexus
@cobalt axle could you plsl
one antenna on the drone and the other on the googles
I'm pretty lost on what's going on, but (respectfully), if you think you put a RX on the drone and goggles, you should probably step back and read a few articles on different components
ok
yes, and what do you want to acomplish with that?
i want them to have better connection to each other
Would the receiver go here @cobalt axle
that's where your VTX antenna would go
if you didn't want to fry your VTX
a receiver is a small board that you solder to the flight controller so that it can receive the signals from the radio and give them to the flight controller. Without it you wouldn't even be able to fly
help with what?
my drone connect to my goggles
you kinda need a VTX antenna... it's not something that helps
without it you will either fry the VTX, not go very far, or both in that order
is this a good vtx antenna
Specification: Input impedance: 50 ohm Gain: 2.15dBi Maximum input power: 50W Connector: IPEX Frequency range: 5.8GHz Length: 70mm Package includes: 2PCS 5.8GHz FPV antenna Feature Lightweight and portable, flexible lines. Precision processing, flexible lines, precise and stable, lightweight and ...
?
if you run the VTX without an antenna, it will destroy it. Some VTXs may have protection against it, so it will just output at extreme low power levels. Or it will do the first and that will cause the second
reading that you had the VTX powered on for over 30 mins does not give me much hope for it still being on ok shape, especially considering that it's eachine
probably not... it's not like it will force the magic smoke back in
Energy created by a transmitter has to go somewhere. If an antenna isn't available, then the energy will get reflected back into the sensitive transmitter, often killing it. Just thought I'd add for future reference
so the same goes for the control link transmitter (the controller in your hands)
if i were to replace it on the scale of 1-10 how easy would it be
First, figure out how dead it is.
For that, you need to buy an antenna with the correct connector for the drone.
If you don't have one already
ok
The connector is SMA
RP-SMA is NOT the same thing
you want a SMA RHCP omnidirectional antenna
FPV Small WiFi Antenna 2.4GHz Wireless Module Omni Directional Thumb Antenna mmdvm Network Router Antenna SMA Male TX RX Mini RHCP Racing Drone Antenna for Multicopter WiFi USB Adapter Pack of 2
is this good?
yeah that's terrible
do you have a recommendation
this?
looks okay to me
aside from the fact that it's amazon
if you're already ordering stuff, order a receiver too
ok
look for EP1 receiver
if you want to use the ELRS radio
no clue what would work well with the spektrum one
probably nothing since it's spektrum
does this look good
yes... I think
I wonder why the antenna is greyed out
yea
it's the correct receiver, but I wonder if that one comes with an antenna
it normally does, but idk on amazon
lots of weird shit
but it doesn't come with wires
yea
ok
silicone wires
ok
soldering them is a royal pain in the..
If you want a nice little challenge, find some old USB electronics (wired mouse or smth) and rip off the external jacket to expose a few feet of four separate insulated wires. Proceed to extract those wires (ignoring the questionable white powdery substance coating them for lubrication between the main sheath) and use them to solder together your quad.
These are solid
(that was a joke. please do not try that unless you actually enjoy suffering)
