No valid ESC configuration in BL_HeliS

I need to change the direction of my motors in BL heli but when I hit "read setup" it says no valid ESC configuration. I verified that my ESC is running BL_HeliS and downloaded the appropriate version (I think).
Any ideas?

I was trying to use BL_HeliSuite32 btw

you can't flash a blheli_s esc with blhelisuite32

do you have the same COM port selected as in Betaflight Configurator, and do you have a charged battery plugged in?
