Prestige ranks are a one way event which resets the perk tree. Prestige ranks do however unlock additional special perks for the classes which makes it worth while. Until you have prestiged enough to unlock all these perks its not worth unlocking all the perks in the tree.

Leveling up can be be quick once you start playing on four skulls difficulty with a group of like minded people especially during bonus exp events happen quite often. You can save gold coin my not buying any perks or only buying ones that make life easier in game. i.e more stim shots for a medic.
