We propose three updates to improve the clarity, efficiency, and usability of the Hummingbot governance process. HGP-77 will allow HBOT holders to vote on each one within the proposal.

Change 1: Replace Polls With Connector Proposals

Background

Today, Hummingbot uses quarterly polls to decide which exchange connectors are included in upcoming releases. Token holders vote among all supported exchanges, and only the top-ranked ones receive active support for that quarter.

As the number of available connectors grows, this system becomes restrictive and reduces the overall utility of the Hummingbot codebase.

Proposed Change

Eliminate the quarterly poll system and replace it fully with Hummingbot Connector Proposals.

Under this system:

  • Adding a new connector
  • Removing an outdated or inactive connector

…will each be handled through individual connector proposals rather than bundled quarterly polls.

Rationale

  • More flexibility: Enables the community to add/remove connectors at any time rather than waiting for a quarterly poll cycle.
  • Less limitation: Hummingbot should support as many exchanges as possible, not cap the number included per quarter.
  • Simplifies governance: A single, consistent proposal type is easier for contributors and voters to understand.
  • Aligns with bounty-driven maintenance: With the new USDC/HBOT bounty model, ongoing maintenance no longer depends on poll results.

# stray junco great idea. will there be limits how many active connectors will be maintainable...

I'm not sure, but I think the new Bounties system we started a few months ago will increase the number of maintainable connectors. Before this, we were the ones responsible, but now each exchange funds a bounty that covers the buildout + 1 year of maintenance. If there's consistent connector usage, it shd be reflected in fee share or some other value accural mechanism that can fund maintenance bounties
