#(Solved)What will buying and installing the dlc do to my modded 1.16 version of ER's files?

unless you did the dumb thing of modifying the game install's regulation.bin directly, nothing
if you did that then yes, make a copy of it, and start using mods through modengine2
otherwise, game updates and additional content only modify the packed .bdt files
not the unpacked files which are used for modding
(and which you should also not modify directly anyway)
I'm famed for dumb decisions so let me go verify how screwed i am, but I'm certain im modifying the modengine2's regulation bin
But i think i've been modifying the unpacked map and event files maybe cause i had no idea what i was doing when i first got my hands on this modding stuff and just did things hoping for the best
Id modify and then place it in the modengine2's event, mapstudio file
Made a backup of the unpacked files which probably doesnt do much
the game doesn't use the unpacked files anyway unless you use the patch executable option within UXM
which I'm not sure even works anymore
anyway it's best to set the working directory in smithbox and other tools to the modengine mod folder directly
avoids modifying the original unpacked files and having to copy files over
I lied, to myself, I didn't make a backup
And I have been modifying the unpacked files
Wait no my "main" project is in the modengine area
But my darkscript is pointing to the events in the actual game directory
So I'm half screwed
not really, just make a copy of the modified files if you didn't already
again, getting the dlc isn't gonna touch the unpacked files in any way
as far as steam is concerned those folders do not exist
you'll probably want to get rid of the unpacked files anyway and run uxm again to make sure it gets all the dlc stuff anyway
I'm not sure how much of the dlc content the game files contain when you don't have the dlc
they must have some at least, so that players can see dlc weapons being used in multiplayer
Thank you for your input btw, this is super late but i was able to boot up just fine thank you for putting bmy worries at ease
