#Trying to Recolor Magic/Incantations

so far no tool or tutorial I've tried has worked, however I think the main issue is that I'm not quite sure if I am repacking the files correctly

GOE Hue Changer Tool
I also tried using the JS FXR Library but I had trouble understanding what to do
Recoloring Spells and Incantations through XML By: Slendahmon Introduction This is just a quick tutorial on how to change the colors of spells, incantations, and the like to whatever color you want. You’ll need to have your game unpacked to do this properly, and you’ll need WitchyBND. Note:This...
Are you seeing other mod changes in the game?
If not, it's probably not a SFX issue, but a mod loading issue
In that case, I recommend you identify if other mod parts load, and if not, see the general troubleshooting tutorial on the wiki
This is a very old way of doing things
that tutorial, that is
yes, I can edit stuff in smithbox, download any other mods I want, etc
You should use the FXR playground instead
I dont really get how to use it yet, I'm still trying to figure it out
Alright well then come back when you have specific questions
alr sounds good
alr
i think i may just have to throw in the towel, I'm not familiar with most coding languages and can barely understand the ones I am
I dont understand any of the terminology listed in these guides
i wish there was like a video tutorial or something for this
i think im going to look for an alternative
What's the problem with FXR playground ?
you just drag and drop your fxr, pick a color, click on recolor and you're done
What terminology specifically?
I tried doing that and it didn't work, no changes were made in game when I put those files back into my mod/sfx folder. I don't know what commands to run or what to fill out in those commands to work. Maybe I'm just overcomplicating it I don't know but I'm burnt out
there's no real commands to run
just recolor yeah
I have an idea gimme a second
Did you reboot the game when you made changes tho
Like
Complete reboot
Idk if playground requires that but sometimes sfx does
there's a built in reloader
I tried pressing reload and I got an error message
Here are the FXR files I want to edit. I started her, then I loaded them up on the playground
selected my color then hit recolor, lastly downloading those files and moving them back into my sfx folder
you don't want your fxr just like that in your mod\sfx folder
where did you pick them up
I unpacked my sfxbnd_commoneffects dcx in my game directory, then moved that resulting folder to my mod folder
yeah well you have to take the commoneffect, place it in your mod\sfx folder, unpack it and place your edited fxr inside (or just edit them inside)
cause me2 isn't magic, it just loads files that have an identical path to the game folder files
your fxr have to be packed up in a ffxbnd
alright, I'll put the unpacked folder there and see what happens
Ok so this is what i got, or should I move the contents out of those extracted folder(s)
neither of those two options made any changes in game
i tried that a few hours back and got this, put it in my sfx folder and still no changes
should I rename it? i am geuinely lost
idk what to do with a BAK file
idek how that happened
ok fixed that
noticed changes ingame, however instead of the spell being recolored its invisible
It’s a backup file because you did something that would have overwritten the file
gotchu, I ended up fixing it
now just trying to get death lightning to be visible again
Just wanted to say thank you both for your help so far
at the very least, I know how to package things properly, now whatever other issue I have is likely with the playground itself, which hopefully I'll be able to take care of
Uh I mean
If it’s just that that’s invisible, or like all the dlc sfx
That means that the whole bnd isn’t loading
Likely
But yeah no problem
Assuming it's just the one spell affected, somewhere in the FXR a value was changed that shouldn't have been targeted for recolor. When I was still figuring it out, I managed to make Lansseax's Glaive invisible by trying to recolor everything 😅. I ultimately just started that one over
I'd copy the original FXRs into the modded folder to start over if you're still having trouble restoring the visibility
