You would need to do it through a structure

Then use that workaround

where you save it to a structure manually and then load it

Yes using a structure, then you can spawn the item, pull the itemstack data, and directly place that trimmed armor wherever like the inventory or armor slots. I did that at one point but just saving trimmed armor of every price of armor. After a few thousand structures you can give any armor trim in game.

Yeah I just made a script to do it for-myself and then afked for ~2h to generate all of the structures.
