I have a function file that works just fine filled with execute commands, and also have this file in the same functions folder as the other one, but this one will not show up in game at all.
Even if I only include one of the commands or the other, or add either of these commands to any other function file, the file containing either of these commands will not show up in game.
What is wrong here?

Check the other file, it also has slashes, and they work. They're optional just like in command blocks.

Well, I remember putting them, but if they aren't there, alrighty then, i'll test it then.
If that's the issue, it should do the same command blocks do and work either way.

Yep, that was the problem. I don't feel like that's how it is on java edition, but ok then, dumb.
