#New Announcements Role for Major Platform Updates

How often though is something like this gonna happen
The reason this major event happen was due to HCF being poorly worked on from the previous management
Not based on time; based on severity.
What other severity has occured
I think it could be used for:
- Removals of systems (like entity permutations)
- Shifts to scripting for block and item events
- Releases of new camera types
- Releases of biomes or dimensions
- Et cetera
The only ones I can think of is:
- HCF
- Custom Biomes
- Upcoming Deferred Rendering identifier stuff from the qna
Tons and tons of things, really
I would see it valuable when big breaking changes arises. Something like “Technical Announcements”.
We have no clue what all is coming or releasing.
Major API Updates is the role I would choose then
Could also be for 1.0 for Editor or deferred
How so
Since we got the scripting API and most of these breaking changes are related to it, people could assume that to whatever change we announce it’s replacement will be the usage of the scripting api.
I don't think it has to just be for APIs.
It could theoretically be for more… rarely.
No way to know yet. But I wouldn't want yet another role for other things.
Well...scripting changes isnt really MAJOR
I'm tempted to call it "Platform Updates".
And guide people to #1019665690233405500 for smaller stuff.
At that point why not Game Udpate
Because the word "platform" encompasses all of the vanilla game, its API, and other things like the release of add-ons to the Marketplace.
Technical Announcements/ Technical News would make sense considering how all announcements would be related to add-on changes, such everything Ciosciaa just mentioned
I guess the name is not as important as for now though
New Announcements Role for Major Platform Updates
How do we evaluate what is major and what isn't? Every preview has some kind of API changes that could break stuff e.g. renaming of functions in scripting
Obviously not the small stuff…
And, of course, there's no discrete function or rule to follow. "We'll know it when we see it."
Wait entity permutations are going to be removed?
Probably? IDK. It's just been sitting there forever with no updates. But maybe not?
I mean, I'd say a lot of it is how long a feature has been around, and how commonly used it seems to be
LIke, block and item events were very commonly used
Such as?
