Taxes are not especially meaningful in sb1, they basically just negate the passive gold generation from bablos by a bit, potentially making the entire bablos system almost worthless. Bablos being worthless would, in turn, would make paying taxes completely unnecessary except for the purpose of prestige, since bablos aren't worthwhile anyways.

If taxes were, say, food, that would do a better job of forcing people to work and actually having a reason to pay, since right now once you get a maxxed-out character the only thing you get from paying taxes is more money (or less money, if taxes are increased)

yes, I agree that taxes and bablos are very badly made, but increasing taxes will only make things worse, because it won't eliminate AFK players, it will only make it very difficult to earn the tax without a large number of AFK players in the guild.
