# lapis fulcrum What's wrong with ubuntu? works fine for me

Ubuntu sucks. The reasons are as followed:

  1. Canonical sees the world in fire, like Microsoft (they have a contract), they shove users snapd with snaps down their throats, sometimes by lying in the users face (they are not afraid to saw the branch they are sitting on, as it was with chrome, they said that the applications in the repositories will not be replaced by their snap analogues and lied. Anyway, Ubuntu is actively pushed through, but everything is just silently slammed), the whole thing is tied up with telemetry, it is launched from under the root, applications in this way in the end user's system are slower to get the necessary patches to close vulnerabilities, which increases the attack vector on the user's machine. The goal of Canonical is to capture the platform, for this reason, and because of lying to their users, the developers of Linux Mint have blacklisted snapd, and everything related to it.
#
  1. Ubuntu is the worst distribution, because its stability is at the level of a broken glass glued with tape. This was very noticeable until recently, the package base is formed from Debian test repositories, therefore, Debian has this cycle ended and then packages are frozen, in Ubuntu packages are frozen when they didnt even have time to pass the testing stage, which is why users are faced with numerous bugs that are fixed only by the next release(if it doesnt make it even worse). Recently, there have been interim releases, and the situation has become better, but there are still a lot of problems.
#
  1. Ubuntu positions itself as a lightweight distribution, but its User-Friendly falls into the pit when you find out that:
3.1 APT sometimes cannot overwrite files without crutches, APT cannot recreate configuration files without crutches and will leave the package(the programs that it contains) in a non-working state.

3.2 for many things, you need PPA, this is a pain in your butt, because in the same Arch you can connect Chaotic-AUR, or put yourself Pamac and enable AUR support, and get everything you need in terms of software without even opening a browser. In Ubuntu you need to find this PPA, connect it, and make sure that maybe it doesnt become outdated, and that there are no conflicts between the connected PPA, and even if everything goes well for the first time, then something will fall off after a bit, it's all extra hemorrhoids and nerves.
3.3 Discover in KDE Neon (Ubuntu on KDE) hides packages from official repositories, forcibly pushing their snap versions to the user, this again means that their intentions are clearly not good.

3.4 you can't just put new software into the system(the new versions) without consequences, or you make a chroot environment, or you can safely roll up your lips and go cry yourself, because in some moments it is critical when, for example, the installer of the same KDE Neon cannot assign a label to a partition with BTRFS because of the old version of btrfs-progs and it gives ya an error that you can certainly fix and roll in live before installing btrfs-progs by connecting repositories 21.04, but this is a crutch, and after installation you will naturally get the old version of btrfs-progs, and if you try to install a new version in an already installed system, you will again run into problems, your system will send you to cry when updating, because it will spit out incompatible dependencies after such sh1t.

#

3.5 a lot of shit, do you want even more? Yeah of course, there will definitely be, in addition to the horse-eating resources, probes in the butt, and a bunch of bugs, you will be haunted by problems when you do not find the application you need in the repositories(and believe me, the Ubuntu repositories are not one of the largest, and not all of the software is there) and you will need to build it from the source code(which can happen if you are not only sitting on the browser), you will have to hope that the repositories(their source versions, so to speak) will have ready-made templates for building the necessary software, which may well not be, and then you will have a difficult task, you need to collect dependencies for dependencies and put them in the system to put the software, but then you will break existing dependencies and updates will send you crying.

I can throw more examples, but it seems to me that this will be an exhaustive answer to the question "what is wrong with ubuntu". Not to mention the fact that there is not perfect binary compatibility between Debian and Ubuntu, and .deb, which stands on Debian, may well not work on Ubuntu.

Ubuntu is not good for me personally but for most people it's just fine and will be way better than like windows. I know there are better ones than Ubuntu but if you just want to open your browser I don't think you'll give a shit. Oh makes sense.

Nah it's good.

I don't have ideas yet I'm just learning.

Will you need geometry shaders

tropic dagger

I don't know.

Like I said, I'm doing everything with the intention of testing stuff out.

I have no major project ideas.

At least not yet.

orchid frigate

Ray tracing?

Sure.

My computer can't even handle that.

#

Why not?

orchid frigate
#

The thing is

#

The more things you require the less devices will be able to run the game

tropic dagger
#

I know.

orchid frigate
#

The bigger problem is

#

Vulkan is new

#

😔

#

So old pcs wont be able to run it

tropic dagger

I have 8 gb of CPU RAM.

I have an old PC.

The rest is pretty much game based

orchid frigate
#

But im realising how scary it might be to make an os

tropic dagger
#

Yeah.

#

The assembly and low-level programming.

#

No OS calls.

orchid frigate
#

Modern OSs defend system files like BIOS

And i also will need to do that

#

Which will be....hard

I have completely forgotten how to use unity

tropic dagger
#

I have completely forgotten how to std::bitset in C++.

#

Not like I used it but it was just interesting to know.

orchid frigate
#

What is it i have never heard of it

#

I searched the std::bitset documentary but they were useless as always

#

I dont think i have ever actually found use of any documentary that isnt in a pdf file

tropic dagger
#

std::bitset is an interface between the program and bits.

#

It's a set of bits.

#

And also you are right.

Never found non-pdf documentation.

I'm sorry

tropic dagger
#

Nah try Python.

#

It's super easy to learn and get into.

graceful grail
#

Lol

#

That was a big change

tropic dagger
#

Start with "high-level languages".

#

They're meant to be easy for humans.

#

Unlike Assembly.

graceful grail
tropic dagger
#

That's fine.

#

Just don't start with assembly.

#

For your sake.

graceful grail
#

But actually thank you so much

tropic dagger
#

You're welcome.

barren shale
#

For simple stuff assembly is really easy

#

For hard stuff it’s extremely hard

tropic dagger
#

But it gets complex and it gets hard.

#

Like 4 hours on the hub but no nut hard.

barren shale
#

I’ve been trying to reverse a function for a couple of days

#

It’s so hard

#

And I lack experience

barren shale
#

Bruh you can debug it

#

And you will get the assembly code

#

Assembly code can’t be really obfuscated

#

Cuz it’s already barebones

#

And you won’t get a lot out of it without experience with debugging and reverse engineering
