honestly, there isn’t one way to make “good mountains”, and don’t listen to anyone who tells you there is. You just have to be aware of what region and what type of mountain you’re making. If you have a more zoomed out perspective, you may want to make larger ranges of mountains with snow capped peaks, and have them all kind of be connected. If your map is a little bit more zoomed in, you may just want to make a series of singular mountains, divided by valleys. It’s all about knowing your perspective and style.

honestly, there is one good way to make “good mountains”, and don’t listen to anyone who tells you there isn’t. using an image editing software vastly expands the care and control you have over your maps. the best way to make mountains is to pull from actual maps, take the image you pulled and index the images colors, simplifying the color palette of the image down to only a few.

& you aren’t limited to real world maps. I made a map based off of 14th century geography for which I had to draw the borders myself. if you use layers and masking you can cobble together height maps, index the colors and use the game’s pallet to make something that can be converted

Personally, I like to make a city and have it inhabited by an immortal infertile human, with a farm for them to get food. I then trap them in a box made of mountains so they can’t escape. They won’t be able to colonize/build in the unoccupied region, but the other nations won’t expand into it either

1. The upvote/downvote bot was down at the time, which can skew results
2. It was very large and somewhat undetailed. The #🌐map-downloads community generally likes maps that are detailed and smaller, as most people browsing map downloads are on phone (although this isn’t always the case)
