I usually get a base image to use in photoshop, preferably one with a clear coastline and a good heightmap. I make the oceans, mountains, forests, plains and rivers, after that I usually convert it into a Worldbox map and add all of the biomes, fix up some rivers, add trees and ores.

Tl;dr Creating a canvas of a world in photoshop which I can then paint on in Worldbox.

Look at the pinned messages in this channel, you'll see a zip file named Image to Map. That's the Image to Map converter that you need to use to convert a .png image into a Worldbox map file, which is .wbox

That zip file also contains a .ico colour palette file that contains all the exact colours used for conversion, which you have to use in order to get the correct terrain types

it's a classic of the image conversion

Big empires tend to fall rather quickly if the clans aren't close.

Thus empires with continental capitals last more than the ones whose capital are on islands or other continents.

Colonization in my maps are often a good example since the various continents influence the revolution progression

They can't hold the colonies, despite military difference, simple because the distance is too great to project any major fleet to conquer it again.

And even if they were to do it their neighbours would attack them

So the colonies that have a ocean of distance usually get independance first.

But i think that's the best part of seeing the historical progression of a map

Also, the funniest thing is always those 2 countries that can't stop waging war on each other for a single city so small that can't add anything but always end up conquered by one of these 2.

It's to the point that in a 100 years my historic records get flooder with them waging war.

After the last update, unfortunately the snow always melts and at the moment there is no way to stop it

But snow on mountains don't melt as fast too

It’s not image conversion exactly. They usually come out barely usable, 90% of the time I have to do most of the work

I use the maps to get rough outlines of the continents and general geographic features, but I do most of the detail work

But yes, the dirt and snow in the Sahara was a product of image conversion

Go to the map converter and resize it to 9x9, it’s the max for iceberg sizes

You see, most do it the other way around. Instead of giving it a bad image that turns into a barely usable map you give it a good image that you can make in photoshop and get a good map to work on. It's the best way for time and quality, also snow in hot deserts is a big nono imo

Also, the snow-in-the-desert is not the norm for my maps. I wanted to make the most recent line LOOK really good, at possibly the expense of functionality. That’s why I left the snow and other odd tiles there.

If you have access to mods, utilizing things like the map makers mod or other ones that let you place a specific tile to place snow-capped mountains prevent them from melting.

a: keep the pattern for each biome and have then go straight in a row up and down
b: Each row has a different arrangement of biomes to balance each kingdom
