With the clock on things pass before you notice much more, you don't really analyze everything in the map

Your take is extremely simplist and honestly quite apathetic. The update ruined major details in a lot of worlds and to people who like worldbuilding there were no manners of dealing with the immense changes that set back maps a minimum of 200 years. There were ways to make the transition better and more adaptable, there were ways to not wipe out every single item from the map (some carrying names of kingdoms thousands of years gone) and to not lobotomize all cultures, but the update was extremely rushed and part of that blame is on the community for being so angry at the devs for taking their time. We all can agree that a lot of things in the update should have taken at least a month more to be polished

And the AI... its definitely stupider now lol

In contradiction to this, for example, is the biome update, which at the time was massive. It changed nothing in how worlds played out. The updates that came after too, "worst" thing i remember was the swamp going from a pseudo-water biome to a solid one where civs could grow. It made some maps uglier and changed the structure of some towns that now could walk and build on previously unnacessible terrain. Nothing horrible, just a small change in tiles

I got a little enthusiastic about the update history of the game lmao, but my take is this one. Speciesbox came out with no compatibility whatsoever to old maps

Thats because speciesbox was way bigger than the biomes update. That was just a change in terrain it didnt change any existing things. Species box changed the entire emotions systems and how creatures looked, how they built houses, and how they functioned.

The• emotion system just got more depth than before (it barely existed), and it should have no impact on the game. Maybe the worst thing you'd see in new worlds would be units without parents and having no connections, which they would then build and expand upon to create new generations, simple. The look of the creatures do have an influence in them dying straight way upon uploading worlds cus the random genetics would push their ages down... but the game could have simply made it so pre-existing species in worlds received a default gene and trait scheme that would only be randomized on the creation of new species in the update or new worlds. The building of houses literally remained the same. Nothing changed, in fact, the relationship between buildings and species is very lazy. The leading species of a city decides the type of house that's built... and this is it. The issue with houses was the change from culture to technology and the creation of the new culture system, this made the smart units forget how to build houses. The fix for this would have been to simply move culture traits to the invisible technology bar (its unfinished, but cmon, they could have simply moved all the details to a new section that has no UI) and then let us use the new culture by itself.

Idk if you are new or not in the community but people have been coming up with stories and rich texts using worldbox for ages now. And the stories written in old worlds had all their depth based on events happening inside those worlds. Screwing them over without any way to fix the problems just ended a lot of those stories and worlds, some carrying a lot of creativity. Some people there also did like reading about fictional kingdom stories, so i had a really long document of history being sent there. With the update, it became impossible for it to make sense in its order of events. Sure, we can all just let it go and play the game normally, but its kind of a bitter feeling to see effort put into something you like be wasted. To what I know, many species can't build stuff on specific biomes (e.g wasteland, that hell biome, and arcane sands) unless you give them the ability to build in one.

So your worldboxmen built atop normal sand (found in beaches, can't have a biome)
