Genes determine a subspecies's base stats. They're basically a puzzle: Each gene has different colored connection points (green, red, yellow, blue). If you line up all the connection points of a gene to other connection points of the same color (green <-> green, yellow <-> yellow, etc), the gene becomes yellow and gets a boost.

First up have your imaginary tectonic plates down, just roughly divide the map into sections wherever you think is best to put them. Those shallow waters you got there already stablish quite the good marks. I can already see that main area and its north, smaller section being the collision of two plates so you coooould put mountains where they meet. For biomes, have jungles in the equator, forests as transitions from them to the savannahs, and deserts in the tropics. After the deserts you usually have either mild grasslands like in the US above mexico or mediterranean shrublands, usually those only happen on western coastlines. Then temperate forests, which are either oceanic (closer to sea and thus more humid and with more stable seasons) or continental (deeper inland and seasons harsher in difference between each other, like in central and eastern europe). Northen than that you have subartic climates which are like the continental temperate but way colder and with harsher winters. I like to use mushroom for those. Then you have tundras, which are shrublands with winter for half the year and a summer season when only brown grass grows (i like using maple on those, personally) and then polar icecaps climates, on the poles. A rule that you could also remember is that big, enclosed seas and mountain ranges alike all "drag" and alter climates. So if you have a big mountain range close to the western coast of a jungle but still a bit inland, the entire coastline west of it will end up desertic because rain won't get through. The opposite can also happen, a mountain range inside a desert can trap the rain from the north or south and create a tropical forest there. Which is different from an equatorial forest, but still a jungle; an example of this is the Mata Atlântica of Brazil and the Iranian Rainforests. In fact, almost all of south america should be a desert by the standards of the climate there. But the Andes being a literal wall that covers the

entire western continent and amazon to the north being gigantic too creates a synergy where water from the jungle gets trapped and humidifies everything in-between
