What gun/ what motor are you using? ICS for example has garbage motors that draw way too many amps
Your battery can only output so many watts without damaging itself. That's why high speed motors are trash, their efficiency is horrible.
You should use a big LiPo with high "C rating" if your gun is power hungry.
The science is the following: Multiple the Amps of your battery with the C rating. It should say something like 25/50C somewhere on the battery.
The high number is what you mainly care about because that's peak discharge rate.
For example, you have a 1500mAh battery that says "30/60C". 1500mAh is 1.5Ah, that times 60C is 90. Means you can draw a max peak current of 90A. That is enough for most guns. If you let's say only get to 50A, that's likely not enough.
If you really wanna be sure go to 100-120A, more just isn't necessary pretty much ever.

I hope this makes sense, please tell me if it doesn't.

Also, you said you are taking good care, does that mean you discharge the battery to storage voltage with a nice charger? If not, that's very important. Batteries hate being fully drained or charged, especially fully charged wrecks your battery over extended amounts of time.

The C rating more specifically means the discharge rate, irrespective of capacity, whereas (1/c)= battery runtime in minutes.

So just like how MaH isn't a great metric of capacity (because it ignores voltage) C isn't great.

Converting capacity to watt-hours, and max power output to watts is the best way to make sure you compare apples to apples

In general the high output cells are going to have a shorter lifespan, if you can spare the weight, it's better to get a larger capacity, (relatively) lower output pack

So, the gun is 100% custom; can't really pinpoint an exact brand, as like 6 different brands make the internals of the gun, and even wiring was done by me (I used to work in automotive electronics, so I'm pretty confident in my ability to solder). For the motor specifically, I would love to give you an exact brand, but I think my rifle is currently in storage (temp controlled, don't worry lol)

I can "kind of" answer your question, as I did have a Matrix Magnum High Torque, but I swapped it out a few years ago for something with a more stable power output. I can't remember what I swapped it with though, sorry.

As for your second question, yes, I had a LiPoly specific charger for both charging/discharging. BUT I did not always remember to properly discharge it, and didn't realize that was as detrimental as it is - that could have very well been the issue.

Sure, in general of course, but Airsoft is almost exclusively 11.1V. 14.8V is nearly not used at all (despite most Fets being able to deal with it) and 7.4V is outdated and there's no real reason to use them.
Can you explain how 1/C = battery runtime? I don't quite get how you come to that conclusion or I'm misreading what you mean. With a 50C battery, that's be 1/50C = 0.02 which you say is in minutes. That's not runtime. Runtime at max draw would be calculated by time = capacity [Wh]/draw [W]

The FMA ones (at least mine) have hard foam but them a thin soft foam layer on top. I find it comfy, but you can take out the pads as they are just Velcro'd and buy fancy soft ones if you decide you don't like them

It's theoretical, since you'll have voltage sag which doesn't let you pull the full capacity of the pack, but I guess it is still more fair to say that you can multiply the pack capacity in amp hours by the C rating to get your peak power draw

(in amps)

So a 5 ah pack rated for 10 C could be expected to output 50 amps.
The same equation would also work for WH capacity

And this is runtime at max draw, realistically most loads will not be like that.

But it's still useful for relative comparisons

It's really best to know the peak draw of your weapon in amps, because c is only useful when you also know the battery capacity

Using an 11.1 on a gun with no mosfet or a good ETU will burn your trigger contacts out

Yeah, what I was trying to get across, mosfets cost little enough that buying a new gun without one is a questionable decision in my eyes. Of course you don't wanna use a 11.1 on those, but that makes them even worse since 11.1 is so much more snappy

Sadly determining peak output is kind of a hassle since you need something that samples really fast which most people don't have. I have seen someone do it with a bunch of motors and they got between 40A to 120A, showing the difference between really good motors (some brushless too) and garbage motors. Same spring etc. for all of them

also, packs can be given a discharge rating that is either a peak continuous, eg, can be pulled for indefinite time, or a burst peak, only acheivable for a few seconds

Of course, I know that much, that's why packs say 25/50C (if they are decent at least)

Continuous matters very little in Airsoft, most packs can easily do that, peaks are the main issue, especially when firing semi auto
