I'd recommend the Edge 2.0 over the standard, those have an Aster instead of an X-ASR. Worth it when you'll eventually decide that stock AEGs are all in need of upgrades. If you plan to stick with it and play seriously, there's no real way around tuning an AEG or HPA in my opinion

It depends. There are some diy digital nvgs people have been making using fpv racing cameras that rival gen 2’s in scenarios where there is some ambient light. In total darkness though they require ir lights.

I think anyone interested in nvg’s with around 300 to spare and access to a 3D printer should make one to determine whether real nvg’s are worth your time.

very niche diy community and no manufacturers making them, the sionix aurora is the only similar example and it has terrible delay. This is why nobody really talks about it, but seriously if you get the proper hardware digital nvg's can be really really good.
