by the time you're pushing 300m, you're stretching the lethality of the majority of combat loads used in the world

so on a non machine gun platform, who cares

ok i've now read and comprehended all of this conversation and have come to the conclusion that this is a result of being poor

the PAS-13 for example is fully capable of identifying and engaging targets well past 800m

in fact that's literally what it's for on the heavier models

they go on 240s and M2s able to engage that distance and more easily

helmet mounted thermals? eh, probably not, but those don't see much use because they're inferior to fusion night vision systems that have been in service for almost a decade now

the PSQ-20B, now the PSQ-36/42 both offer night vision/thermal fusion systems

and even if you can't engage the target, knowing they're there means you can pass that info on to someone who can, and they'll handle it

and as usual, blah blah blah train with your gear, yeah, that's well and good, but if you take two people with the same proficiency, and set them next to each other at night, give one night vision, and the other nothing, the guy with night vision will win probably every time, seeing at night when others can't is basically a superpower

one of the most important parts of combat is being able to collect, process, and utilize information

night vision gives you the ability to do that in conditions where a human without the same equipment simply cannot, you will fucking dominate them because of it

The issue in it, why I mention training training training, is that if you're using a mono, you loose depth perception, and with binos you still have the problem that your "eyes" are 10-15 cm in front of your head. It's not intuitive for most people without training. Most insurgents don't have optics or IR lasers that allows them to effectively engage targets while wearing nods either.

I do understand and know what you are saying, however I have on many instances seen an attitude from people "outside the business" that just having nods or thermals instantly turns you into a pipe hitter. I may be exaggerating the difficulties, but it is to dissuade people of the notion that simply possession of an item guarantees efficiency.
