On that form you gotta put why you want it your fingerprints, passport ID, all of that fun jazz. It's then sent off to the ATF, the ATF then sits on it for the next couple months and doesn't touch it. Then it finally gets across some dude's desk to process it and your information is then sent to the FBI, the FBI just runs a fucking 4473 NICS check.

The FBI then sits on it for a little bit and then sends it back to ATF, ATF then sits on their ass for a little bit while they're fucking with paperwork because they are dumb. The 80 of them process it you pay them all that fun jazz and then you can pick up your whisper pickle. And now that whisper pickle cannot be in anyone else's possession cause you filed as an individual not a trust and get fucked they're a felon and also you're a felon if they get hold of it. The check that they are doing is quite literally the same background check I take when I go buy a fucking gun from an FFL. Why the fuck does it take nine months

Most of those superficial laws make owning guns in those states less attractive and reduce gun sales. Are they effective in deterring people from purchasing in state? debatable. But I've heard quite a few accounts from shop owners in Cali where they start going over the requirements and the would be buyer decides not to purchase. Personally I'd prefer a licensing system with much much deeper background checks, as apposed arbitrary list of things you can't glue to your gun.
